So last night, I saw a fare to good to be true. It was for $130 R/T from LA in May on Frontier. I went ahead and booked it for my family of three even though I have seen quite a bit of negative marks on them. I did pay the $60 extra each way per person for the "Works" package that includes the assigned seats, carry on and the checked bag. Even with the fee's. it still came in under $250 R/T which was better then anyone else. What I wanted to know was what everyone else thought of them. I know that they are not part of the Airline Check-In program, but having used Virgin American the past few times, I am used to bringing my bags back to the airport. I do know that there are no free beverages on board, including water, but didn't know if I need to be prepared for any other surprises to look out for.

If the plane has a mechanical issue you could be stuck for days. You see they don't have mechanics in all the cities they fly into. Only in Denver. So when a plane breaks down, they have to fly a mechanic from Denver to that location. Happened to a friend of ours. Frontier has a small fleet of planes that is why they only flight once maybe twice a day to and from a city.
They have been known to up an cancel a flight at the last minute. A week before we were to leave I wanted to buy seat assignments. I looked the day before and the flight was there. THen the next day I looked and it was gone. Come to find out Frontier said they decided not to fly to ATL that day. Frontier had put me on a flight for a different day. Did not call or email me about this. And this happened last year!

So be prepared if an issue come up. If you are at the airport you will only find Frontier employees available only if the flight is about to take off. They do not man the customer ticket counter continuously. They are at the counter 2 hrs before a flight leaves and that is it.
Check out their FB page

I was in the "nervous boat" about Frontier when I booked a last minute trip last fall. I read all the horror stories and got more and more nervous...BUT everything went smooth as silk. I anticipated rude people at luggage ck in & gate, and they couldn't have been nicer. The flight left on time and actually arrived early. The only difference I found was the size of the tray table. (It's made for a phone or tablet not a laptop.) The seats were a little less cushy but for the price I didn't care! Also; for the return home, although Frontier doesn't participate in Disney's airline check in service, you can ck in on your phone, then go to the front desk and they will print your boarding passes.
We've done this twice now with no problems.

They are notorious for over booking and hoping people don't show up. I can't tell you how mammy people I've heard that got to the airport and we're told their flight was already full.

This really sucks because frontier might only fly 1 flight a week out of an airport, so if your flight is booked, you have to wait until the next flight comes in which could be a matter of hours or a matter of days.

If you don't mind a long flight with uncomfortable seats, no recline, and nothing provided for free, then it will be fine.

Our flight wasn't as long but we flew them in October for an incredible rate. We had no issues at all and I'm watching their rates to book again. No, they aren't the most comfortable seats, but for a $200 savings I can deal with that.

This actually is something I look forward too..lol.. Back a few years ago, there was another low fare airline called National. Me and my wife made it a game to book flight times that normally would overbook. We would wait at the podium while the airfare credit would go from $200 to 3 and even $400. We did this each time, and flew for free over a year just based on credit from bumped flights. This flight is a red eye that leaves out of LA at 12am, but being that there is only one flight a day direct to MCO you never know ....

Sorry to say this but I had the most horrible flight with Frontier. They lost our luggage and then when we got it and it was ripped up and all muddy (We had just bought a new set) After emails and phone calls complaining nothing happened to fix it. During the flight they delayed the plane 2 times, which I get because of weather, but they made us sit on the tarmac for over an hour and those planes have no air circulation when they are on the ground. Then they decided to taxi back to the gate and we all were able to get off the plane. After 20 min. we all got back on the plane and then sat on the tarmac another 45 minutes. Just saying I'm glad I didn't have any kids with me on this trip and I hope your flight is better than mine.

Stay optimistic, but from this gal..... I will not fly Frontier again.

I don't think it's like this in every city but here, they only fly out of the smaller airport and not the main international one. They only have flights twice a day, three days a week. So if you're booted because they're oversold or the flight is cancelled, etc, then it could be a few days before you get out. For us, that's been the only disadvantage. It's not like they have another flight leaving in an hour or two they could squeeze you on if necessary.

For $130 round trip and from LA....ummm yeah I'd book that in a second. I've flown Frontier plenty of times and while I'm not crazy about all the add-on's now, it's still a fine airline to travel, just know what you'll have to pay for going in (you know and you've already paid it - $250 round trip is still an awesome price...I'm finding it really difficult to get under $400 and that's from NY -upstate though). It'll be fine...enjoy your savings.

We've flown them three times to Orlando. Never had a problem at all.

We have flown Frontier a few times now out of Trenton/Mercer. There are only 2 gates at Thai little regional airport.
We have been very happy with the people we have dealt with and never had an issue with a flight being overbooked or cancelled.
I did have a mechanical issue in Orlando on a return flight. The flight needed a part to fix it and they didn't mnkw when it would leave trenton to come get us. They did keep us posted. Gave us a meal voucher. Changed flights to Philadelphia for those that didn't want to wait and see what would happen. And ended up making the repairs and arrived to make the return trip home. Although it was 6 hrs late.
The only issue I find is the seats are horribly uncomfortable. I am fine with them for our 2 hr trip to Disney. Any longer of a trip would be rough for me.
