Any ideas what the point of that "tool" is?
Is it supposed to be a selling tool for guides?
https://disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com/vacations/last-minute-magic-getaways/

"Looking for extra vacation magic? Now's a terrific time to plan a last-minute getaway, with availability at select Disney Vacation Club Resorts over the next 60 days.
Below, explore a list of available Resorts, room types and travel dates. This list is updated weekly, so be sure to check back often!
Last Updated: January 26, 2016"

So it says it updates weekly, which we all know is basically useless anyway if true, but apparently it has not updated for 2 weeks!
Is this inventory that has been turned over for cash inventory, and member services can pull it back out to make member reservations?

Any ideas?

The best I can come up with is that they think it will bring up with some people who don't realize it that there can be last minute availability.

What's kind of sad is that I think they were touting this as something special they've come up with for the 25th? Like getting new member cards. :cool1:

Most of what DVD does is to make DVC look great when the guides are trying to make a sale. Last minute magic may look nice for buyers who don't understand the DVC system but it is a waste of web space for everyone else.

Yes, they are!
From the 25th Anniversary of DVC page
"VACATION-PLANNING ENHANCEMENTS
In 2016, it'll be even easier to plan unforgetable vacations thanks to these great enhancements."

Ridiculous. That is why I ask if there is something more to it that I don't know about.
Is this inventory that has gone into cash inventory and they can pull back out?
It just doesn't make sense to me.

Ironically, I just booked a last-minute reservation for this weekend, and it would never have shown up on that list. Since it doesn't actually update, it's pretty worthless.

On the flip side, the page might actually hurt sales. It's an honest look at how terrible last-minute availability actually is.

My guess it's an answer for buyers who ask, "what if we want to book a last minute reservation?"

Just looks like something to let people know that there can be last minute trips. It is not an issue of whether it is inventory turned over to CRO and then brought back. At 60 days out DVC inventory becomes available for rental through CRO but the same inventory also remains available for DVC reservations. This service seems to concede that Disney is not able to rent everything that remains open at 60 days out and it would be happier at least having a member use it rather than go empty.

Of course, I am sure everyone is going to line up for the open bungalows at Poly. Have been watching those and bottom line is they are not filling most of the time until very close to a date if even then, e.g., the first week of February was open until 4-5 days before Feb 1, i.e., they cost too much in points and apparently Disney is discovering they also cost too much in cash to the public.

That is really interesting, drusba. What will they do now? Reallocate points for studios are more and bungalows less?

I'd have to double-check the numbers, but I believe increasing the studios by 1 point per night will decrease the bungalows by 18 points per night. They've got some room in there, but they're going to upset a few folks one way or another.

I think is more to answer the question of, "What if my points go into holding?"
It is a way to show that yes you can rebook something if you have to cancel at the last minute and still be able to use those points.

Interesting about the bungalows-- went on a tour with my brother and sister in law (want my fast passes), and the guide claimed the bungalows are always booked.

Doesn't seem that way to me.

Sad thing is the guide assumed my brother wasn't going to buy (he's in the middle of a resale), and was borderline rude. Granted, my brother was highly unlikely to buy (like most ppl who take the tours) but he's also a good candidate. He can easily afford dvc, even direct, and not finance. My brother just bought his 4,000 sq ft house in cash- need I say more? He also goes to DW a few times a year although not always on site.

Anyway, was just a bit taken aback at how the guide seemed pissed at us for "wasting his time" bc my brother was already buying resale. But I digress-- the guide claimed the bungalows always 100% booked, and that they are highly sought after....
