Lunch

This wasn't one that I had planned for ahead of time, so I was a little overwhelmed by the menu. So much so that I made a big error in my ordering!

20151210_114109-1.jpg

Dim Sum Basket for Two: Pork Pot Stickers, Shrimp Shu Mai, Cha Su Boo, and Pork Siu Mai steamed on a banana leaf, soy lime dipping sauce.

This was AWESOME. I'm a big fan of pot stickers and shu mai dumplings anyhow, and the "Cha Su Boo" (the big white ones) were interesting to try... kinda like a small steamed bun!

20151210_115924-1.jpg

Chicken Tikka Masala: Boneless chicken breast marinated in yogurt and freshly ground herbs cooked in a traditional Masala sauce, jasmine rice, garlic naan bread.

This is where I messed up and got overwhelmed ordering... As soon as the server put it in front of me, I smelled it I thought "Why the crap did I order this? I don't even like curry or Indian food!" Because I don't really. Fortunately this is a dish that, while I don't love it, I can eat it, so I did. And all that being said, I could tell it was very well made and good quality.

20151210_115914-1.jpg

Aunt Debby got the 10 oz. grilled kobe beef burger, but no bun or slaw, and subbed in rice for the fries that usually come with it. She said that the burger was AWESOME.

20151210_115908-1.jpg

Uncle Mark got the Sweet and Sour Chicken: Tempura chicken or pork, ginger, garlic, bell peppers, pineapple. He said it was really good, and definitely much better than what you get at any old corner Chinese place!

And... That was it. No, no wontons. I was full! I regret my choices. I wish I had ordered them anyhow I stuffed them down my gullet. Don't hurt me, @kastoney ! I'll go back someday and order them, I promise!

Dinner

So. It turns out that I don't like German food, either.

I remember coming here once about 10 years ago. I definitely remember the shared table thing being uncomfortable, but I didn't remember much about the food. I booked the ADR for this trip because Uncle Mark had mentioned that he LOVES German food, so I didn't mind doing it for him. In the months leading up to the trip, I got really excited for it! I'm a meat and potatoes girl, surely I'll love it.

Nope. And there was NOTHING wrong with the food what-so-ever. German food, it would seem, just has a flavor profile that doesn't do it for me. The seasonings and marinades and prepartion... Just NOPE! Kinda like Indian food. Oh well!

To be fair though, I also wasn't feeling awesome. I had big beer plans for this dinner too, and I ended up just sticking to water!

Anyhow... Here's my plate, which might look delicious to some of you!

I'm not sure what all we have here. Meat. Meat. Meat. Some sort of taters. Some spatzle, I think. More meat. MEAT!

Well, it's too bad both of those were kind of a miss :/ I can definitely see how Biergarten wouldn't be for everyone. I enjoyed it when I went, but you definitely need to like German food :P And I'm not sure I even ate much that was super "German," anyway! I just remember liking the desserts a lot :) And pretzel bread!

At least the Tikka at Yak & Yeti sounds like it would be good if you like the flavors, but sorry it wasn't a hit for you! I hate it when I get flustered by a menu and end up ordering something totally out of character. It rarely works out well for me.

However, now you have good knowledge for future trips and can avoid/order better options!

I love Yak and Yeti, but I can totally see how you'd be thrown off with one of the wild dishes there. I hate when I order the wrong thing. Ahhhhh. I considered ordering the tikka masala last time as well but I was nervous I wouldn't like it. That appetizer looks soooo good! I have only ever had potstickers, out of the bunch, but the whole dish looks like it was presented really nicely. Yum!

I always think that burger looks delicious - even without the bun and slaw ;) Justin always gets the sweet and sour chicken, he loves it. Good choices all around! I always intend to get the wontons but I haven't yet.. For shame!!

Biergarten does look good, we're going to try it for the first time on our next trip. If anything I'll just load up on beer, pretzel bread, and strudel. ;)

That looks really good! My DH would be all over it!

Chicken Tikka Masala: Boneless chicken breast marinated in yogurt and freshly ground herbs cooked in a traditional Masala sauce, jasmine rice, garlic naan bread.

Was the tikka spicy? I've never had Indian food so I'm kinda scared of it being really spicy, but it looks good from the pic!

Anyhow... Here's my plate, which might look delicious to some of you!

Bummer that you weren't into the food so much at Biergarten. I think it looks pretty good though!

I am 'meh' about German food as well, but was super happy with all the shots they offered for grown-ups. Apfelschnapps, Bärenjäger with bourbon...I even tried the Jägermeister, which didn't taste as disgusting as I remember from my younger days. We also had the Schöfferhofer Grapefruit hefeweizen (only available at the stand outside the restaurant), which is only 2.5% alcohol and very light and refreshing on a hot Florida day. My husband's family is German and Norwegian, so we'll be eating here again in May...though I could give it a miss.

The only reason to go the Biergarten is for the Grapefruit Hefeweizen, and maybe the entertainment. All the meats, pickled sides, and casseroles are kind of mushy, overly salty, and not great. The apple strudel is okay.

Love the update!

I have been wanting to try Yak and Yeti for a couple years now (a big part of it is that wonton dessert, LOL) We did eat at the CS one on our last trip and it was a big hit with my DH and my Dad, I liked it too. Our go-to place at AK is Flame Tree but we wanted something different this time.

We love the Biergarten! I am not a fan of sausages or a lot of the meats but I like the roast pork, I love the spaetzle and red cabbage is really good too (athough my MIL makes it at home so I could have it almost anytime). they usually have a good soup (they had a really good cauliflower soup a couple trips ago) and I could make a meal out of the pretzel rolls, LOL. They make a good mac and cheese too.

I dont like german food either..but we always go to Biergaten...I sort of scoot around the real German stuff..and go for americanized food....I like one type of sausage, I get the potato leek soup (if it is there) some salmon, chicken, and some of the salads..I know ..to much money to skirt around the food ...but hubby likes it ...

thanks for your review

This looks so awesome...I would want to order that alone and just have it for my meal!

Sorry you weren't happy with your entree choice, and weren't feeling Biergarten either...oh well. Win some and lose some.

I honestly probably should take my Beirgarten experience as a learning experience, and start trying to take actual notes. I'm sure there were SOME things I liked. I definitely remember I wasn't feeling well during dinner though, or else I would have ordered alcohol. I clearly remember just sticking to water. So I'm sure that effected my enjoyment of the food as well, and my ability to remember what few items I did enjoy. (I think I remember liking the chicken legs from the kids section, because I'm an overgrown toddler.)

Now that I'm thinking about it, I also remember that the line for both sides of the buffet was STUPID LONG, too. As somebody who doesn't do well standing for long periods of time, that made things problematic for me, too. But there wasn't anything to be done for it, really... Just another symptom of how unseasonably CROWDED everything was that week!

At least the Tikka at Yak & Yeti sounds like it would be good if you like the flavors, but sorry it wasn't a hit for you! I hate it when I get flustered by a menu and end up ordering something totally out of character. It rarely works out well for me.
Normally I choose really well off menus! I have no idea what got into on that afternoon! I did great with the appetizer, but then for my entree I just got weird.

However, now you have good knowledge for future trips and can avoid/order better options!
Yes, I'll definitely know better for next time! And I would absolutely go back to either restaurant, as there was nothing at all wrong with the quality of the food! I would definitely try Yak & Yeti again for myself, and Biergarten if I was traveling with somebody who really really wanted to go. At least now I'll know what to expect, and be able to make better choices! :thumbsup2

I love Yak and Yeti, but I can totally see how you'd be thrown off with one of the wild dishes there. I hate when I order the wrong thing. Ahhhhh. Yes, I'm a big fan of dum sum style apps, so I was super pleased! The tikka masala, I don't know what I was thinking. :rotfl:

I always think that burger looks delicious - even without the bun and slaw ;) Justin always gets the sweet and sour chicken, he loves it. Good choices all around! I always intend to get the wontons but I haven't yet.. For shame!!
Same! I hated that we were too full for the wontons! Maybe in October I'll make up for it and go JUST for those! :scratchin

Biergarten does look good, we're going to try it for the first time on our next trip. If anything I'll just load up on beer, pretzel bread, and strudel. ;)
The food is good quality, there's not a thing wrong with it! The flavors just weren't my cuppa. I hope you enjoy it! :goodvibes

That looks really good! My DH would be all over it!
Me and Mark tore it up! Sadly, ever bit of it had gluten, so none for Debby. She has a small appetite anyhow though, so it was fine.

Was the tikka spicy? I've never had Indian food so I'm kinda scared of it being really spicy, but it looks good from the pic!
No, not even a tiny bit spicy! And believe me, I'm a HUUUUGE wussy girl when it comes to spice... I can't handle even a little tiny bit. Sometimes people will have me try something and be all like "No no, it's not spicy at all," so I try it and then I am all:

"OMG YOU DIRTY FILTHY LIAR, I HATE YOU AND YOUR WHOLE FAMILY, IT'S LIKE CHERNOBYL IN MY MOUTH, HOLY CRAP I'M GOING TO DIE, HOW DARE YOU, FLAMES THERE'S ACTUAL FLAMES COMING ROLLING OFF MY TONGUE LIKE A GD DRAGON, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GIVE ME WATER OR I WILL KILL YOU WHILE YOU SLEEP."

Seriously. I can't handle spicy. And the tikka masala was fine. :P

Bummer that you weren't into the food so much at Biergarten. I think it looks pretty good though!
It LOOKS great! And it probably tastes great to most people! They wasn't a thing wrong with it, and I would never discourage anybody from trying it. It just wasn't for me! :-)

DH has some German in his background, so would likely love Biergarten, but he would not enjoy the seating arrangements either. I can tolerate German food if I must, but I suspect I'd enjoy a good burger just as much. I guess I'm a bit unadventurous at times - if I'm paying $$$, I want to make sure it's something I'll like! I'm glad you were at least able to enjoy the chicken tikka masala - it does look good, and I like how the sauce is not all over everything.
I'm always fairly adventurous, and it usually works out for me, but not always. This days eats were a perfect example of that. :rotfl:

See, I had big beer plans like that! I wasn't feeling well though, so I stuck to water, which was a bummer. If I ever do go back, hopefully I'll be able to partake of the adult beverages a bit more!

The only reason to go the Biergarten is for the Grapefruit Hefeweizen, and maybe the entertainment. All the meats, pickled sides, and casseroles are kind of mushy, overly salty, and not great. The apple strudel is okay.
Defintely going to at least try that Grapefruit Hefeweizen if nothing else if I ever find myself there again! ::yes::

Love the update!

Same! I had planned on us going to Flame Tree, but we'd hit quite a bit of BBQ already in the trip, so I had to think on my feet. I was really happy that gift card lead me to Yak & Yeti, because it was definitely a cool experience! :thumbsup2

Yeah, there was certainly enough that I didn't leave hungry or anything. I would go back if I was with somebody who REALLY wanted to go, it just won't even be my suggestion. :rotfl:

Definitely too much money for skirting, I agree! But I still would certainly go back if I were with somebody who really wanted to go. There was enough there that I could eat so that I didn't leave hungry or anything. When all else fails, there's always the kids section, right? :rotfl: I'm sure I'll enjoy it more if I ever go again because now I'll know better what to expect!

This looks so awesome...I would want to order that alone and just have it for my meal!
That wouldn't be a bad idea at all! It was certainly delicious! Mark and I shared it, and really enjoyed it! :thumbsup2

Sorry you weren't happy with your entree choice, and weren't feeling Biergarten either...oh well. Win some and lose some.
Usually I win when it comes to FOOD! I can't be too upset about losing on this day! :goodvibes

Looks really good. I would totally order this. Well except for the pork and the shrimp, unfortunately :sad1:

And... That was it. No, no wontons. I was full!

Wait, WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT??!!!!!!!! o_O

Although when I saw that you ordered that chicken dish I was all like , "Why the hell did she do that for? Oh no, no way that girl's gonna have room for those wontons". :sad2:
Although at least you have October.

The whole reason I'm going is to get those wontons. Gonna get me an app and then some wonton yumminess. Oh yeah!

Breakfast

Let me say it loud and clear for the people in the back: I LOVE BOMA. :cutie:

I eat here every time I'm at Disney World, alternating breakfast and dinner among trips. This time it was breakfast's turn! YUM!

20151211_104710-1.jpg

I don't even remember what all that is on my plate. But believe me when I say it was goooooooooooooooooooood! The eggs were scrambled with ham and little bit of cheese. These were good, but they didn't hold a candle to the scramble eggs with goat cheese and chives that I had on my last breakfast visit here in Sept. 2014. I was hoping those would be available for nomming on this visit, but we got hammy eggs instead! Oh well! Still ate them! Yum!

Not pictured is the 14.8 gallons of POG juice that I drank. I love that stuff!

Oh, and then my second plate. Because Mickey waffles.

20151211_104647-1.jpg

Yes. They tasted every bit as good as they looked. I'm actually sitting here staring at them and regretting my life choices. Namely (1) giving up carbs, and (2) ever leaving Walt Disney World. When I return in October, mark my words... Every morning, there will be omelets and Mickey waffles as far as the eye can see.

That's it for this Dining Report, ya'll! Thank you so much for eating vicariously with me! :P

I think it was all pork and shrimp, if memory serves!

Wait, WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT??!!!!!!!! o_O

I know. The Food Force was NOT with me on that day!

Although at least you have October.
Maaaan, October is going to have some EPIC eating happening!

The whole reason I'm going is to get those wontons. Gonna get me an app and then some wonton yumminess. Oh yeah!
I'm actually considering doing exactly that myself on the next trip, just to make up for my transgressions!

Great report! We are eating at Boma for the first time on our next trip, also a breakfast ADR. I have heard so many people rave about the eggs at Boma being the best on property, plus I love breakfast and would eat it all day every day if Disney would let me. Thanks for affirming our choice!

thank you so much ..for a great review and great photos..I love food porn and these photos are right up there as fantastic...thanks again

Go for it, sista!
I'm gonna! I might even make it a personal challenge! DAILY WAFFLE BREAK! :hyper:

And thank YOU for taking us on this culinary adventure with you. So many good eats!!!
Hey, it's my pleasure! Any excuse to talk about FOOD! :goodvibes

Oh yeah, they're eggs are the BEST!!! Everything there is! You won't be disappointed or leave hungry, that's for sure! :thumbsup2

thank you so much ..for a great review and great photos..I love food porn and these photos are right up there as fantastic...thanks again
Yay, I'm so glad you enjoyed! I love me some food porn too, girl! :cutie:

Ending on Mickey Waffles is probably the best way to end a Disney Trip at least. I really like Boma breakfast. We actually are not as impressed with dinner there or lunch at Tusker House, but that is more because none of the food is really out of the ordinary for us, so it doesn't have the wow factor that it might if we didn't have a lot of similar options frequently at home.
