I would definitely go to Paris, if only for a few days!

I would do a Seine river cruise - just at sunset is perfect. This will give you a good tour of the city from the river and a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower. Speaking of the Tower - I would also go to that at sunset or the evening, when it's lit up. Bring a baguette and a bottle of wine and just sit on the lawn and enjoy it. If you approach the Eiffel Tower from Trocadero you will be able to take the best photos.

The hotel we stayed at was very expensive, in the St. Germain district. Not sure I'd recommend it if you're looking for cheap, but it was a wonderful area to stay in.

Personally, I don't think I'd do the Louvre on a short trip. It's huge and the Mona Lisa honestly isn't that awe-inspiring. The museum needs hours of time to explore, and on a short trip I would prioritize the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and just strolling the city and enjoying its beauty and its food.

I agree, go to Paris!

What time of year will you be there?

I don't want a cheap place to stay, but also don't need 5-star. Somewhere mid-range is okay. I hear hotels are rather expensive. What kind of hotel would be in the $200 to $300 a night range? We are okay in a smaller room without a view as long as it is clean and has a hot shower.

My mom and I are staying at the Hilton Opera Paris. It seems to be right in the range you're looking for. That was my requirement too. Nothing too crazy, but something decent. Seems to get decent reviews and I stay at Hilton properties a lot. May be what you're looking for. We're staying there in July and are paying 242 euros. Good luck and have FUN!!

We have stayed at the Pullman Eiffel Tower hotel. Great location near the Eiffel Tower and we paid about $250-300/night.

Where in Germany are you staying . ?

Bring your Swim gear ..... Lots of hotels have swim pools .... tipping is not compulsory .

If I knew where you are in Germany then there are other places which just might be good to see .

I have some hotel chain .... lists that are really good hotels all over Europe .

We fly from Ireland to Amsterdam ( Relations ) , Dusseldorf ( Relations ) & Munich ..... for Austria & beyond

Woodview, do you have any favorite restaurants that you would recommend in Amsterdam? We'll be there for a few days before our riverboat cruise this summer. We're staying in the city center - a couple of blocks from the train station.

No...... because we just drive through Amsterdam on our way South to Venlo

( Other meals are with relations in their homes on outskirts of Amsterdam ).

There are many Thai & Chinese eating places which are very good .

The ABD used to stay at the Hilton Arc de Triomphe. It's no longer owned by Hilton; it's now called The Hotel du Collectionneur Arc de Triomphe. Doesn't look like much from the outside (very '70s) but the inside is lovely - beautiful Art Deco decorations and furnishings! It's well located within easy walking distance of the Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe, near to metro stations and not terribly far from the Eiffel Tower. It still gets good reviews on Trip Advisor. However, I think the prices have gone up since the conversion, and it will run you $300 - $350/night.

And I did not care for this hotel at all! ;-) If I were to return to Paris, I would choose to stay directly on the Champs-Elysees at the Marriott. Unless it was totally different as a Hilton, I felt the hotel and staff under par compared to ALL the other hotels I've stayed with ABD.

I have heard great things about the Westin Paris Opera. Friends of ours have stayed there twice on points and had very positive things to say about it. If you are a SPG member maybe try calling and seeing if they have anything available on either points or points and cash (IMO the best option).

We have stayed twice at the Park Hyatt Paris but it is likely out of the price range you are looking for. I would HIGHLY recommend it if you could swing it. It is a jewel in a superb location with knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Have fun!

We were in Paris in early October last year and did a dinner cruise along the Seine. It was really beautiful and the food was very good. Highly recommended.

A 2-day trip to Paris from the USA is possible, but certainly would not be enjoyable! Your body will need to overcome 6-hours of jetlag which is not a fun process, especially if you have never experience trans-Atlantic jetlag. I suggest that at a minimum you need to stay 4-6 days in Europe.

A 2-day trip to Paris is way better than a no-day trip to Paris. Plus the OP said she'd be arriving Friday (flying out on Thursday) which gives her a day to recover until her husband is able to tour on Saturday & Sunday.
