Marathon Weekend 2017!

I actually thought I was going crazy until I found this post and saw I'm not the only one obsessed with Marathon Weekend 2017.
This will be my first 1/2 ever and I'm super exited. I already started training. I know it's far away in time but I'm not really a runner so I need some extra time. I'm afraid I'll be hooked and would want to go back every year!

It's a legitimate worry. Disney races are addicting! :-)

FYI - for those not following the Disneyland Half thread - during early registration there was a new change to PoT. PoT submission is required for anyone expecting to run a 2:45 or faster half marathon.

Didn't know that. It will probably come over to the world.

Question about how Proof of Time is used.

Does Run Disney take into account length of the PoT run?

Say I run a pace of 10:15 in a 10K while DW also runs a 10:15 pace but in a marathon. Will she and I be placed in the same corral?

Thanks very much.

For which race?

I would think your wife would be placed higher...so yes, they do take length of race into account.

For which race?

For all the races in the Dopey, which we are planning to run.

I haven't seen it specified anywhere. I would 'assume' she would get a higher (closer to the start line) than I in my scenario, but I haven't seen this confirmed by anyone who would actually know.

I'll take a stab at it.

Your 10K time of 10:15 min/mile equates to a 4:58:10 estimated marathon.
Your wife's marathon of 10:15 min/mile equates to a 57:15 estimated 10K.

This is according to the McMillan calculator which Rundisney closely resembles in their calculations.

https://www.mcmillanrunning.com/res...nce=Marathon&ghours=4&gminutes=28&gseconds=33

According to last year's Dopey corrals,

I would guess you would be in corral H and your wife in corral F.

This is all new to me DopeyBadger. Thank you for this.

I would think the longer the race the more beneficial the result would be for corral placement in any long race.

The length of the race is given no consideration as long as it was longer than the 10 miles required; it's all down to the calculator. Personally, I am happier with my Marathon finishes than my Half Marathon finishes; but my best Half Marathon gives a much faster calculator estimate for POT purposes, so I use that when submitting to rD.

All booked at Kidani from 1/5-1/10 for the half hoping to change to Bay Lake at 7 months. Starting Week 3 of C25K tomorrow....I guess this is happening!

Also keep in mind that you and your wife can still run together. She can drop back to your corral. My wife and I have done this to run together.

Hi BuckeyeBama,

Very true what you said.

My wife :tink:dropped back for the 5 & 10K runs at the 2015 WDW Marathon weekend before she ran the 1/2 without me (it was very cool and motivating seeing her run up Main Street USA to meet me me who was waiting for her at Cinderella's castle during that run :cheer2:..... hence both of us training for the Wine & Dine 1/2 this year and the Dopey in 2017).

It 'ok' for her to drop back for the 5 & 10K runs as we see them as fun runs, stopping to take pics, etc.::MinnieMo::MickeyMo

But on a long race like the 1/2 and full I would feel a tad guilty having her slide way back into my corrals.

My training for me I guess to get closer to her speed. :love2::love:

According to my research, if you were indeed in corral H for the half/full you will definitely be in Corral B for the 5K/10K. Your wife in corral F is on the cutline and may either be in Corral A or B for the 5K/10K, but the likeliest is Corral B as well.

If your goal is to be in the same corral as your wife in the half and full, and assuming she submits her POT from her 4:28 marathon, then....

Run a 10 mile in 1:35:28 (9:33 min/mile), or
Run a 13.1 mile in 2:07:21 (9:43 min/mile)

According to McMillan, these are the equivalent paces to the 4:28 marathon at other distances. Good Luck with the training and let me know if you have any training questions as I am always happy to help!

I'm booked at Pop Century for 1/7-1/10. It'll be my first marathon and my first solo trip. I'm already stoked!

The expo goes on the whole weekend, right? So I'll be able to pick up my packet on Saturday when I get in?

Also, what is DATW? (Sorry, I'm a runDisney noob!)

The most difficult challenge of Marathon weekend, of course - Drinking Around the World!

And yes, you'll be able to pick up your packet on Saturday, though the Expo will close earlier (maybe 3 or 4? I can't remember) than the other days, so just plan accordingly!

Thanks for the tip! I'll get an early flight that day.

It closed at 4:00 PM on Saturday this year. Just in case you need that extra hour!
