Anybody done this?

How popular is it? How many people per boat? What is the "continental breakfast" and how long does that take? The entire event is 2 hours including the breakfast, fishing and figuring out who wins the two prizes so it doesn't seem like you are on the water for that long.

Our family of 4 has done a fishing excursion before and so I'm wondering if it is similar. The price is not that much more and this includes some form of breakfast.

Haven't seen much about it posted. One poster was upset because their reservation was canceled a few days prior to their date assumably due to not enough people signing up.

Another poster stated that their family had a good time.

I am interested in this, too. My DS19 has a college scholarship to fish. He would love to do this. Our problem with our trip in June is that we will be doing a fishing excursion in Anna Maria Island right after our trip to WDW, and I'm not sure I can afford both. But my DSs might be interested in coming up with their own money for it.

Total off topic. My sons and husband are avid fisherman. We have done the excursions but not tourn. What college did your son get a scholarship to fish at if you don't mind me asking. I would love to research that more. My son's do tournaments and so on for fishing.

We did this over the summer and dh will be doing the dvc fishing trip in feb. we loved it. Fished in at least 3 spots and everyone caught more than one fish. There was only one other couple on our trip. Breakfast was simple but very nice - beautiful berries and i think some muffins outside in the marina. I dont remember all the spots for fishing - we fished by the polynesian dock, in front of the island by the magic kingdom and by fort wilderness. So it felt like plenty of time for fishing to me. They also had bottles of water for us on the boat. We had a great time and it was so nice being out on the water with all the views. It felt like a good value but of course if you are paying for a bigger group it gets expensive. When we go next time just my husband is going. He fishes all the time at home and he wanted me to sign him up again so that says something.

He goes to a private Christian college here in Kentucky called Campbellsville University. The fishing program is only two years old. Many colleges have fishing clubs, but this program is actually part of their athletic department; therefore, they can award scholarships.

We had a group if 6 do this in June 2015. We were the only people for the tournament. The boat drivers were not allowed to help us fish because it was a contest - made sense. We were split on 2 boats. Since only 2 of my group were fisherman it was interesting. The boat driver said it would have been cheaper for us to have just chartered a boat and then he could have helped us more. Towards the end of our 2 hours he did help one of the kids who hadn't caught a fish by telling him where to cast his line. He got a fish. Most in our group caught several fish.

We had a lot of fun.

I fish tournaments quite a bit in the summer months. The fishing at Disney is ok, but relatively expensive for what you get. If you are looking for a great fishing experience, I would drive to Lake Toho, which is close by, and hire a guide there....its 6 hours of fishing and overall costs less for the time spent....PM me if you need some info.... :)

This is an old thread, so I don't know if I'll get any responses or not... but it's worth a try!
For those who HAVE done this, what were the prizes?

Our oldest son LOVES to fish, and we've been teaching him the value and purpose of saving up for experiences, instead of junk. At 8 years old, he's caught in the toy trap, and has to burn every dime that enters his pocket, or else he's worries his pants will catch fire... on toys that he plays with for no more than an day...

If the prize is actually something worth winning, I know he'll love this. However, if he forks over $70+ of his own money and DOES win... and the 'prize' is a major disappointment, then the value of he lesson learned won't hit too close to home.
AND I realize that winning isn't guaranteed, but neither are claw machines... and he can't walk past one without salivating!

Just curious! TIA!

Hopefully you will have received this in time. The wall plaque is for the champion and the trophy is for the largest bass. If it turns out to be the same person to win both awards, they will go to the 2nd largest bass to award the trophy.

So glad I found this thread as I have signed my DH up for the tournament later this month. Thanks to all that gave reviews and photos of the event.
