Ukers!! Have any of you gone solo? And if so was it for 1 or 2 weeks?

I was thinking of going solo this May, but I am not sure whether to go for 1 or 2 weeks! Obviously its more cost effective to do 2 weeks, but I am worried about getting a little bit lonely as 2 weeks is a long time really, especially in this instance where I will only be doing the Disney parks and not Universal this time around. Any thoughts from anyone who has done this? Thanks so much! :) xx

The longest I've been solo was 4 nights/5 days but that was just because that was all the time I could get off. I would have had no problem being there for a week, I can't imagine going anywhere for 2 weeks solo or not but I think I could make it work. I didn't get lonely at all, if you are constantly surrounded by people, a little alone time is great.

I love my solo trips, but I think for 2 weeks, I might get lonely. Maybe if I was throwing in Universal or a couple days at the beach - to make it "more" than just a WDW trip - then it might be okay. My longest WDW solo trip was 6 days and that was fine. I booked one for 9 days - but that ended up being half solo/half couple.

I've got a boyfriend at home - I don't want to be away 2 full weekends, really, and three weekends away would be a ton of time. He's done some work travel that long - and we miss each other! I was gone 10 days solo once (mostly a business trip, just a couple fun days) - only one weekend - and that was long enough for me! I was also gone 15 days once - but that was foreign travel and I was meeting up with family for a large part of that trip - so not completely solo.

I think if I were single - I still probably wouldn't book two full weeks at WDW. I might take a solo trip that long - but I'd mix it up more - other places in FL, too. You get SO much more done that you want to do each day as a solo - I think for two weeks - I might either have to really get adventurous - more time not in the parks - or find myself bored. I guess if I was planning sitting at the pool reading a book time or hanging out at a lounge with a drink, I might fill two weeks. I can't even fill the time with shopping - that would be too much time shopping even for me! I'd have to book deluxe to hang out around the resort if staying that long... and man... that gets pricey!

So - for me - I think the cap is 9 days solo at WDW. But - that's because longer - I'd miss the guy back home too much!

I have been traveling from Germany to WDW for the past few years. All solo trips. I spent anything from 4 to 15 days at Disney and would go again for 15 days anytime. I don't think that 2 weeks are too long, make a few ADR's that are fun beeing a solo traveler (I love CRT, BOG or CP) and just enjpy your time. Spend a day at a waterpark, a lazy day at the hotel pool and make sure you watch the fireworks every single night. You won't get bored or lonely and even if you do, just skype or message your loved ones at home, that#s what I always do when I feel like I need a little company. I do lots of character meets and so far always met nice people to chat with while waiting in line, I never got bored than way and had lots of fun. I really wouldn't think 2 weeks are too long...there's so much stuff to do that you might not have done while exploring Disney with your family.

I could do 2 weeks at disney, but I also find myself very efficient without givng anything up. If I did a week or even two, only part would be at disney and I would probably hit orlando more and maybe even some sights in tampa the same trip.

Hi, not a Uker but I'll comment anyway as I think it's the same question regardless of where one is from. I've done several solo trips and the longer ones have been around 11-13 nights. However each trip I do look for other Dis'ers who are going around the same time and see if anyone would like to meet up for a meal, park touring, etc. I usually end up with some time solo and some time meeting various people. If I weren't going to meet anyone, then yes, I do feel that's a long time to be solo in a place where you don't know anyone. Leagill, if you were going to be there in mid-April rather than May, I could meet you at some point. But maybe you can find others who are going in May. You might make some new friends. But unless you're very extroverted and make friends easily, I'd suggest making plans ahead to meet people. There are probably some who have gone alone to WDW with no arrangements to meet anyone and may have managed to strike up a friendship right then and there, but not everyone has a knack for that.

I'm planning my first solo trip - it's currently going to be for 13 days. I think my plan to combat loneliness is to "FaceTime" with my friends and family as much as possible as well as "talk" to my online Disney friends. I'll let you know how I do.....

I'm not from the UK but I've done a two week trip before to WDW and found myself doing other things aside from the parks. I really enjoy checking out the other resorts. Some of the resorts such as Animal Kingdom give free presentations which I found interesting. I also visited DTD to enjoy some of the restaurants, nightlife and even watched a movie at the theatre. Well, whatever you decide to do have a great trip.

I usually travel solo and I've done up to two weeks a couple of times now. For me, 2 weeks is perfect. I don't feel rushed everyday knowing I'm going to have more days to see/do what I want to do. When I do go for that length of time, I usually throw in a day or two at the water parks and sign up for a tour one day. I'll spend a couple of nights at DTD, go to POR to watch Yehaa Bob, and see the different fireworks/night time shows from different locations (Wishes from Main St and another night from Fantasyland.)

I have done 4 trips to WDW, with a 5th happening this year and all but one have been solo and this trip coming will mostly be solo, I shall be catching up with a friend for a few days.

Here is my thoughts on it, 2 weeks is a long time, I always go for that length, if not longer as I travel from Australia, so I figure I should get value out of my flights. 2 weeks solo can feel like a longer time, due to the closed of nature of you being along, but that is only an issue if you are a social person, I can go a few days without needing to talk to my friends, but there are times when I talk daily, so its a personal thing. If you feel that you are alone, don't be afraid to strike up a conversation when standing in line, there is nothing wrong with saying hi, or just how are you, sometimes that is as far as the chat will go, but hey you tried.

Thank you all for your replies, its been a great insight! It is more cost effective to go for 2 weeks definitely, as I will be spending out the same price for the park tickets regardless of if its just one or two weeks, and of course flights alone are £500! So it doesn't make much sense to do one week really as it will cost almost just as much as being there for two! It is a shame as one week would be better, especially as seeing I will be limiting myself to just Disney as I will not be driving over there and I hear its a bit of a nightmare arranging transportation to get to Universal? Plus Universal tickets are too expensive for just one or two visits anyway sadly! Ah I will miss Harry Potter... I will most likely be booking the 9th May for 2 weeks, so I will keep my eyes peeled for anyone who may be around then too! Its the cheapest dates for me to go it seems, especially seeing as its much more expensive to be a solo traveler due to the extras you have to pay for single supplements :( Does anyone have any thoughts on the All Star Music/Sports etc hotel? As that's the cheapest for me... Is it ok? Thanks again everyone!! You are all so helpful! :) xx

I'm preparing my first trip to WDW at the moment, so this is not my own experience, but from what I learned out of research there are shuttle buses from the WDW Resort to Universal and there's taxis and Uber too. So don't know why it would be such a nightmare? I do agree the Universal park tickets are a bit expensive.

The All-Stars can be great hotels, but they can also be meh. If you have not booked, I would suggest looking at Pop, it is usually only about $10US more each night, but its also has things like its own buses, where as the All-Stars share some.

Hi Leagill, as others said, I'd also read about there being a shuttle bus you can arrange to pick you up at your hotel and take you to and from Universal. It was mentioned in a previous trip report by your fellow Uker, The Little Katie.

The All Star rooms look really small. For something in the Value category, I agree with renderman7 that Pop Century would be a better choice. I've stayed at Pop Century a couple of times and it was OK. Sorry our trips won't overlap as I would have liked to meet you sometime; maybe some other year, though! I hope you find some nice Dis-ers who will be there during your May visit.

The shuttle is operated by mears and when I did it in December 2014 it was $19us return, so its actually cheap. You can also Uber if you wanted to as well. If you do want to do the shuttle, the front desk at any hotel should be able to either book it for you, or give you the number so you can call yoursel.f

Pop is not a great hotel, its still value, it just has the benefit of being separated from the All-Stars. I know they share buses for Animal Kingdom and Studios, not sure about Epcot, but I know MK gets one bus per hotel, but as the rest share, you could be first time line at Music, the bus pulls up and its pack from people still waiting to get off at their hotel, or people who just got on.

Pop is nicer that it has their own dedicated buses, it is also linked by a bridge to Art of Animation, so you can explore that one and change up hotel based dining by going to that food court as well.

I would consider staying off property to save some cash. I dont know if you feel comfortable doing that as a single lady but the amount of money you save is tremendous, even taking in to account rental car and parking fees.
I did a week in Kissimmee which was less then 5 minutes from Disney property just south of the All Stars resorts.
Added bonus is that you can eat wherever you want and go for a bit of shopping on a day you dont want to visit a theme park. And ofcourse Universal.

Another non-UK person who will be going late fall this year for two weeks. I have timed my trip (I think) to catch the end of Halloween and Food/Wine Fest for 4 days, then take a 3 day Cruise in the middle, followed by 5 days to hopefully catch the beginning of Christmas festivities. I did do a solo trip for my 50th birthday. It was heaven. I could come and go as I pleased and did not have to be the pack mule/photographer for the family. My focus for this trip is going to be getting photos with characters (I am the one always taking the pics) and backstage tours. I will catch a few ride favorites, shows and parades/fireworks.

Hi fhtpdw20,
How cool is that! I'm also going around Oct. 29-Nov. 9, 2016 to catch MNSSHP, MVMCP, and meet lots of characters at both of them. Your trip looks really fun. If you'd like to meet up at some point, you're welcome to send me a message. I'd be glad to take some pictures for you, of you with the characters, whether at a character meal, party, or even just in the parks. But if you'd rather be solo the entire time, I do understand, and wish you a wonderful trip.

Hi DaisyDuck001,
I am not sure what you have in mind for your trip but here is my plan. If anything interests you, I would not mind meeting you. I am planning Hoop De Doo, Akershus and OHana Breakfast, Crystal Palace, x2 Hollywood and Vine, and 1900 Park Faire for dinner. I am also planning MNSSHP and MVMCP. The tours are going to be Wild Africa, Undiscovered Future World, DestiNations, Train Tour and Marceline to MK.
