Post a Picture of Your Camping Setup at Other Campgrounds!!

This is probably my favorite local campground to go to. It's Foscue Creek Campground in Demopolis, AL.

Located on Demopolis Lake, which was formed by one of the lock and dams on the Tombigbee River. This campground is built around the flooded Foscue Creek and each site has a waterfront spot on the creek allowing you access to park your boat. This is because the Tombigbee is a sportsman's paradise when it comes to fishing. I have had more fun and adventure fishing on this river than I could possibly begin to describe.

It has 4 sites that actually back right up to the Tombigbee River. These sites don't have a place to park your boat since the wake from the barges would tear them to pieces, so if you want river front, you have to be willing to load and unload your boat on a trailer each day.

This is site 51

This is looking downstream from that same spot. In the distance you can kinda see where the river seems to drop off. That's because it does! That's the water fall at the lock and dam.

There is a park on the downstream side of the falls you can go to. This picture is looking back toward the falls

The kids like the barges going by and do their best to get the captains to hit the horn for them.

Here are the sunsets in the summer

Now, I'm not just a squirrel whisper at the Fort. I train them at Demopolis as well

Glad to see that your Mickey lamps go to other camp grounds. I wasn't sure about taking ours, but now I will.

Be careful though. I always have my base locked up to something. In that picture at Foscue it was chained to the tree.

Also, be prepared to hand out design plans. I actually keep them printed out and copied. I have handed out several.

As you can see, after the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons and then the wildfire in 2010? it wiped out most of the woodland area on the backside of the campground.

The trade off is in the evenings you get really good sunsets

It's slowly growing back.

Hey PaHunter, You brought back a lot of memories. We spent many trips years ago at Promised Land Park. We used to tent camp in the Pines Area back before the fire went through and destroyed all the trees. The last time I was there Pickerel Point was still being refurbished.

Well Pickerel Point has been done now for about 4 years. It has those that like it and those who don't. The full hookup's are nice, but some are on the hill and could have been improved more. Nice to get out and watch the eagles fish on the lake.

Nice Dog kennel you made there. I don't think my lap dog (the 120# Yellow Lab) would take to it though. He needs to be with his daddy.... Every step of the way! :)

LOL, our's are the same way. They are big babies sometimes. We use the pen when they are eating and when we eat. If we are just sitting under the awning, or by the fire, we will let them be with us (on leash). They definitely get more attention camping than at home. A lot more walks, for sure.

Sadly, the big boy passed away Sunday when we got home. We got to spend one last camping trip with him. The vet wanted us to put him down (liver cancer) Friday before we left, but my husband needed one last weekend. When we got home, he went peacefully on his own.

Just got back from a return visit to Foscue Creek Campground in Demopolis, AL. This was a spring trip, so the river was up higher and gave some different views of things. Also, SouthAlabama5er came up and stayed with us as well so a mini-Dismeet to boot.

Had site 51 again and Randy had site 50 just behind me. That's Randy in the "can't miss me" colored shirt in the background

The river was up much higher this time than on my last posting from Foscue from the summer of 2015

The campground has areas for camping, but also has special set aside areas for families to picnic. This picture is looking back up one of the lanes. There are about 10 picnic sites with tables and grill on each side of the road. The Spanish moss really adds character.

This is looking at one of the Corps of Engineers offices. You can see by the bench the river is up.

Now, on this trip we got a special treat for the kids and for me. I was able to pull some favors and secured a visit to the lock and dam located on the site. There was a barge coming in from downstream.
IMG_0031a.jpg

This lock is 300 feet long and 100 foot wide
IMG_0042a.jpg
He docked in, but was too long so he had to disconnect and pull along side, then the gates behind him were closed.
IMG_0053a.jpg

They opened the valves and created some nice whirlpools

and in just a few minutes, the 300+ foot long petroleum barge was raised up to eye level.

and here is a picture of the falls up close created by the dam which makes up Demopolis Lake

Another great stay. Staff was great as always.

Also at Demopolis, there was barge traffic as well. The kids like getting the captains to hit the horn for them.

Me waiting for the next one to come through

as Ed told me, "There's something you don't see everyday"

It's name is the "Cotton Blossom". Notice the captain on the upper deck taking a picture of me taking a picture of him...

Here is my rig at Knoebel's last year during Halloween weekend. The green awning in the background is my parents. We usually try to go to Knoebel's at least twice a year. Once in the Summer and once in the fall. We might even try for a spring time weekend this year.

Wow, is that the Knoebel's Campground? Last time we stayed there it was totally PACKED. (Rack and Stack)

We love Knoebel's (of course the park is a big part of it) but don't like that the sites only have Electric (no Water/sewer). That was the first Campground we stayed at with our other camper and we learned A LOT on that trip.

We have also stayed at J&D's down the road too. It's not as "Cramped" but of course it's not walking distance to the parks.
