hi. i noticed that on the restaurant page has some that say "Counter Service" (jolly holiday) and some say "Cafeteria" (market house) . What is the difference?

Also the plaza Inn is listed as "full service".. is the lunch and dinner full service?

Plaza Inn is CS for lunch and dinner, but it's the most cafeteria style of the ones listed. Jolly Holiday is CS. There are sandwiches and salads in a case that are brought out from a kitchen. They also have coffee and selection of baked items. Market House is Starbucks. They have a case, but no kitchen there.

Cafeteria style just means you grab a tray and go down a line grabbing food, and pay once you have your food. Counter service means order and pay first, then wait at the counter for your food.

Cafeteria style is French Market, Redd Rockets Pizza Port, Plaza Inn at lunch and dinner (breakfast is a character meal), Rancho del Zocalo.

Also DCA, cafeteria style is Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta.

The rest are counter service.

I have a totally different definition!

Cafeteria is prepackaged food.

Counter service you pick & choose what you want. You can request the dressing on the side of a salad for example.

Cafeteria is getting a tray and having servers give you what you select from them. This is how Minnie's CM works. There are various food stations. Anyone who lived in residence at university knows all about cafeteria style. You also get your own utensils, drinks, condiments etc. You can request specifics from the staff, such as any allergies etc.

Counter Service is like McDonalds or other fast food.

Yes, just to clarify, Hungry Bear, Village Haus, STage Door Cafe, Jolly Holiday are all examples of "counter service." You walk up to the counter, order your food, pay, and they hand you a tray of food.

Cafeteria - You pick up a tray, pick out food, place it on the tray, then go to a cashier and pay. Examples - Plaza Inn, Rancho, Pizza Port, French Market.

I'm not sure how market house is cafeteria then... When the food is obviously hot & fresh at Plaza Inn.

Market House is not cafeteria. It is counter service. Disney lists places as "Quick Service" or "Table Service." Most people on the boards have come to label quick service as "Cafeteria" or "Counter".

Plaza Inn is cafeteria. You go up to the window, ask for the pasta dish/chicken/beef, they plate it and hand it to you. You go by the salads, pick one out and put it on your tray, go get a soda, put it on your tray, then go pay for it. Same with Zoccalo. Get your tray, go to the burrito section, order your burrito, they make it and put it on a plate, go to the salads, pick one out, grab a drink and go pay.

Hungry bear is Counter. You go to the cashier, say "I want a cheese burger no sauce, fries, and a drink", you pay, walk up tot he counter and they will hand you the tray.

Way back when I was in school, you ate in the cafeteria. You got a plate and were served hot dishes, salads, fruit, milk, etc... Same in college. My daughters say it is still like that in our area.
