Do you recommend going through travel agency?

Just wondering. I was considering dreamsunlimited. Do you have a favorite? I would like to use an agency for this trip due to the cost and questions that I am unfamiliar with.

I booked both my ABD trips (Southern California and Central Europe) through my Disney Agent Mouse Unlimited. Mainly because at the time of booking our first trip there was no way for Canadians to book except through a travel agent. She handled our recent trip too.

By your post I would suggest using a travel agent just for the security to answer all your questions. It does not cost you any more money and can coordinate your airline and handle payments. I've done travels both using a travel agent and on my own and have had success both ways. It seems that DisneyKevin can answer any and all questions being an expert on ABD travels.

I book with an agency that gives a credit based on the total cost of the trip. I usually get about $400 back on a one adult/one child booking.

I booked my first ABD with Kevin at Dreams. I was going to use the travel agent I use for cruises, but I really wanted someone who knew the product and could answer all of my questions. And, trust me, I asked MANY questions and he has always been fantastic about responding quickly and answering them all thoroughly (even the ridiculous ones) ;-) I certainly can book it on my own, but I don't pay any extra and I have someone who can be there and help me along the way....why wouldn't I do that??

I booked two ABDs (last year and this Oct) with Kevin and I just booked WDW for the second time with Stacey. Both with Dreams and both very helpful with all questions or problems that might arise. As much as I like to do my own travel planning (and I really do!) it's nice to have an expert backing you up!

I would absolutely recommend using an agent. Just realize that you won't be able to call ABD and make any changes to your reservation - all requests have to go through the agent you booked through. If you have a good agent if wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately my agent (NOT anyone associated with this board) is awful and I cringe when I have to deal with her. I can't wait to finish up our booked our ABDs and start using Kevin (if we book with ABD again).

I use her for the sole purpose of getting the discount on the price, not the service (or in her case, lack of) she provides. To give an example, I asked her to look into a train transfer for my son for our upcoming summer trip since I was struggling finding a direct flight home for him from the closest airport (so I was going to put him on the train to another city where he could fly home directly). She said it wasn't her job to do anything other than book the ABD trips and since this transfer fell outside of the "ABD" trip she couldn't do it. I realized it wasn't the same airport ABD was providing transfers to, but since we are spending a fortune with her this year I thought she would be able to do this for us. Alas she would not. How sad since if I had booked this trip with a regular TA they would be booking flights, transfers, meals, train tickets, basically anything and everything we needed for the exact same price. But I digress. We are done with her this year (after booking 6 and taking 5 ABDs with her).

I'm speechless.

And I'm sorry.

Here is her responsible:

"We are travel agents but do only book Disney Destinations. We can only book transportation through Adventures by Disney.

Adventures will provide transportation at the end of the trip to either the airport or the train station in Zurich. Other modes of transportation are booked directly by the guest."

I just asked her to help me find a train to get my son from Zurich to Milan as the options are very confusing. She wouldn't do it.

We've had other issues with her but I am a loyal customer and wanted to give her another chance.

We've used dreams for our last three or four trips and have been very happy. We use Kelsie who also handles our cruises, but Kevin has also been very helpful with questions.

I'm not surprised. Some Disney TAs will ONLY book the Disney portions of a trip. I know my Disney TA, who I've never had an issue with when it comes to booking Disney, told me when we were looking at combining a trip to DL with a repositioning cruise on the west coast that she could book the cruise and DL but not the few days we were looking at staying in San Diego. She could make recommendations but wouldn't book anything. We didn't end up doing this so it was a moot point.

I always use Costco...you get cash cards back for approx. ~8% of the trip. I think it's a great deal and you deal directly with ABD once you book.

We've used Kevin at Dreams Unlimited Travel for 4 ABD's with a 5th in the works for later this year. Excellent service!
