Silly suggestion?

Perhaps this has already been mentioned somewhere on these boards. If so please forgive me:

Bike rental between HS and Epcot for guests to ride from one park to the other.

I'd like to have the option to rent a bike or surrey at one park, ride to the other park and just drop it off there. Or rent a bike at one of the Epcot resorts, be able to ride to HS or Epcot and leave the bike there - like you can do in some cities these days. Obviously, a dedicated bike path would need to be designed and constructed, not to mention bike rental shacks put up and CMs hired to man them. It'd just be nice to ride rather than walk or boat it when one is still wanting to be outside and park hop, but the feet are SO tired...

The Friendship boats have an outdoor space at the back. While not a silly idea, per se, the ROI would probably be negative.

In addition, I don't think the path between BW and DHS is wide enough to accommodate bike traffic and pedestrians safely. The paths in the immediate BW/YC/BC area are substantially wider and even there I get worried about bikes/surreys not being appropriately controlled among the pedestrian traffic.

I get that many people love riding bikes...and yes, it's a great alternative to ambling along. BUT....the walkway between DHS and Epcot just isn't wide enough for that. I can just imagine this scenario.....nice family walking along, heading back to the BW from HS. Then, three kids come careening up behind them, on bikes, having a race! People jump to the side, fall down, whatever. I've seen it with ECVs along that stretch...yes, really!!! And it wasn't kids, it was older adults!!!
I don't even like the surrey bikes in that area!!! Can't tell you how many times I've been forced to move quickly to the side as a full bike comes flying down an incline, completely out of control!!! And people think it's funny!!! It's all funny until someone gets hurt....yep, the mom in me just came out!!!

In Charlotte, NC they have automated bike rental racks. I'm sure Disney could afford a couple of those :p

The biggest problem I forsee is that no one respects what isn't theirs. They would need to require a security deposit on the bikes just in case someone got the bright idea that they were on a BMX bike and not a beach cruiser.

There just isn't enough room for a dedicated bike lane between DHS and Epcot. There is some room from the slope down to the canal to the tennis courts. After that, it's a roadway that runs beside the walking path.
Perhaps on the other side, but it would mean crossing the road...on the S/D side.
It's a nice idea, but one I doubt would be viable.

They have these in the Twin Cities and they are awesome!!

It would be fantastic if WDW invested in this. Bike routes, with rental bikes (length of stay, anyone?), etc. Much cheaper than extending the monorail everywhere...
