40 is a FANTASY! Chunkeymonkey & Chubbyhubby STAR WARS cruise and POLY Feb 2016 TR Link Added!!

I had a great time! I don't know if I'll be in any hurry to cruise again, but I loved doing the DCL thing once. We had RAERAAE, so we were in Animator's Palate for SWDAS. But honestly, we weren't in love with the main dining experience, mainly because of how long it took, so we only ate at Animator's and Royal Court. I just wore a Star Wars t-shirt on Star Wars day, but my friend did get fully dressed up. I was up and wandering around decks 3 and 4 by around 9:30am, and SO MANY PEOPLE were already in full costume. My friend chose to get in and out of costume multiple times throughout the day, so she was in costume for each of our meet and greets and then for dinner. We both went casual for the fireworks (I just swapped out my t-shirt for a Darth Vader long sleeve :) ). I'm not sure if I will do a trip report or not, so ask as many questions as you want! I am more than happy to go into as much detail as you need!

Thank you so much!! Sorry I am going to bombard you with questions! How did you find the weather? I know it gets kinda windy on deck especially at night - just hope it is not too chilly as I'm not sure what to pack! Was it hot in the Caribbean and castaway cay?

Did they have a lot of the SWDAS merchandise in the stores on board? I pre-ordered some stuff but they told me that most of the pins I had pre-ordered were not going to be arriving in time so they will have to mail it to me when they are available. I did order some of the tumblers and t-shirts as well but I am not sure I really needed to.

Also did you guys do any activities on Cozumel or Grand Cayman? I have honestly been so preoccupied with SWDAS that I did not prepare any excursions or plans for our time in ports! I have been to cozumel before so I may just walk around the town and maybe grab some lunch and go shopping at the Mega supermarket.

Can't believe it's less than 3 weeks now!

The weather was all over the place. Embarkation day was COLD and very windy. The next day was still windy, but less so and not nearly as cold, but still not bathing suit weather. Cozumel and Grand Cayman were both much nicer - nice and warm and partly cloudy. The next two at sea days were GORGEOUS, sunny and hot (but getting us this weather did require them altering their usual course up to Castaway Cay). Castaway Cay was very windy and on the cooler side - too cool for a bathing suit for me, although I was fine in short sleeves. In fact, it was so windy that day it took them three tries to dock! So...my recommendation is, at the very least, bring a hoodie and/or sweater and jeans/pants along with your warm weather gear.

There was a ton of the SWDAS merchandise. I also did a pre-order, but as it turned out I didn't need to. It looked like everything was readily available except maybe one of the limited edition pins. Also I can't speak for the artwork because I didn't care :).

We booked port adventures for both Cozumel and Grand Cayman through DCL. We did the ATVs through the jungle and beach break on Cozumel and a catamaran ride to Rum Point on Grand Cayman. All I was interested in really was beach time, and my friend was happy to accommodate me as long as I was willing to do the ATVs. I was happy with both of the excursions.

Feel free to keep bombarding me!

Thank you! I'll be sure to pack some jackets and pants in case of those types of days.

Did you dine at Palo or Remy?

Thanks for the info on the merchandise. I'm sure I'll end up buying more anyways. LOL

Those excursions sound fun! I think some beach time is good! I've asked my DH and sis about what they want to do but they are not into the planning so probably have not done an ounce of research. I guess it's up to me, so beach it is!

BTW, on Pirate night, I know there's no themed dinner, but did you guys still get the bandana and people still dressed up?

Thanks for all the info!!

We didn't dine at Palo or Remy. I'm a picky eater under the best of circumstances and most fine dining is...lost on me :).

You still get the pirate bandanna and tons of people dressed up. We just wore the bandanna, which was still fun! They also did the show on deck 11 (no fireworks). And we both bought the souvenir pirate glasses. I went with the non-alcoholic drink because the glass was cooler :D.

Awesome! i'm glad they still gave out the bandana. I thought pirate night was fun. Although we are going to Remy that night - but we'll be there for the deck party!
Thank you so much!

Can't believe our trip is less than 3 weeks away! I have been waiting for this trip for the better part of a year. So much anticipation! So much excitement! :woohoo:

I watched the live streaming of Fantasmic! last night on Disney Parks Blogs. It just reminded me of how much I love the show and want to be there again...and I will be in 24 days!!

Red for me, Green for DH, and Chunkysis gets yellow! Even though she's only at WDW for one night in our resort, she still gets a Magic Band! I guess she won't be able to open the door to our room without one. LOL.

We also got our official cruise documentation and luggage tags!

So many things happening in the next few weeks.

I'm currently in the midst of packing. Why do I feel like I've had 8 months to prepare and I can't even figure out what to wear?!?! :rotfl: Am I just starting to pack too early? I have a pretty busy February up ahead so I wanted to get a head start and not leave anything to the last minute (it's Chinese New Year, V-Day as well as one of my best friend's b-day's and we're holding a joint b-day gathering!).

Does everyone have the same dilemma as me with packing? I want to bring everything and yet I like to travel light. I'm gonna be packing for 2 weeks here. I need formal clothes as well as park clothes, plus the ship can get windy so I'll need to bring more layers and light sweaters/cardigans. I'm also packing costumes. YES COSTUMES. For STAR WARS DAY AT SEA. My outfit will be a surprise. It's currently being altered at a tailor because the fit was not 100% right. It's a classic character but probably not the outfit you'd typically see.

I can share DH's outfit though!! I pieced his outfit together from different sources, and I'm really happy with it. Here it is:

Introducing Han Steve-O:

That scruffy-looking nerfherder!

I tried to minimize the amount of costume-y things that I have to bring - his long sleeved white shirt can be worn again, and his pants are just navy blue dress slacks which he can use during our fancy meals at Remy, Palo, and Victoria and Albert's! His "boots" are just dress shoes with some boot spats on top - so I didn't have to buy and bring him some bulky boots. I bought the boot spats, the vest, and the belt from amazon. Overall his outfit was cheaper than buying a Han Solo costume set, but I liked it better than some of the pre-packaged outfits. Plus you can't really guarantee the fit either if it's just a standard one size fits all.

I can share one outfit that I think I'll be bringing with me...

Please excuse my messy hair and my glasses...it was late at night. Anyhoo, I bought this Minnie bow shirt 2 years ago at WDW, but never had a chance to wear it. It looked similar to a shirt I brought on last year's trip so I didn't bring it, so I guess this is the year that I break it out! I love the big bow and the longer sleeves on the arms.

I'm also trying to decide between these 3 maxi dresses. I don't need all three though, but I might bring 2. I remember on our last cruise that I wished I brought maxi dresses because the decks were so windy at night and my short dresses and skirts were flying up. What do you all think? Please excuse funny expressions on my face. It is usually late at night when I pack for our trips.

Which dress(es) should I take?

A lot of news around the Disney Parks:

I heard Kylo Ren is gonna make an appearance at Star Wars Launch Bay at DHS! How exiting. I don't think he'll be on the boat so I'll have to try and get his picture at DHS.

Speaking of DHS, a bunch of stuff is closing soon so I'll have to make sure to stop there on this trip. Lights, Motors, Action Stunt show has it's last run in April. I haven't seen this show for a while but I'll be sure to catch it before it ends. Also Writer's Stop is supposed to be closing. Sad as it's a favorite pit stop for a coffee and a place to sit outside of the heat.

Also I read the monorail is running at some modified hours. BUMMER especially when paying a premium for a monorail resort. I hope it doesn't affect us too much.

I'm actually pretty excited to head to Epcot's Japan Pavilion to check out this current exhibit:
Kawaii - Japan's Cute Culture. Kawaii is rooted in Japan's Shinto past and is a means of self-expression from all walks of life. A replica of a modern Tokyo apartment is part of the exhibit.

Speaking of Epcot, here's the latest about the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival: I took this from the Disney Parks website:

    • New culinary creations at the festival’s Outdoor Kitchens will take guests on a Caribbean tour at La Isla Fresca with flavors like Jamaican Braised Beef with Pigeon-Pea Rice and Jerk-Spiced Grouper or Chicken with Mango Salsa. At the new Cider House, a Field Greens salad with greens harvested from The Land pavilion, heirloom apples, Stilton cheese and dried blueberries will pair well with a blueberry hard cider from Plant City, Fla. Dozens of new food and beverage flavors will debut, as well, at the festival’s 11 other Outdoor Kitchens: Urban Farm Eats, Pineapple Promenade, Fleur de Lys, Florida Fresh, Taste of Marrakesh, Hanami, THE SMOKEHOUSE: Barbecue and Brews, Primavera Kitchen, Lotus House, Bauernmarkt and Jardin de Fiestas.
    • The first-ever Huey, Dewey and Louie topiaries will feature floral interpretations of Donald’s nephews inspired by a 1943 Donald Duck comic book called “The Victory Garden” at the Epcot front-entrance garden display with Donald and Daisy.
    • A new hands-on Harmony Gardens musical playground will debut featuring Disney’s Fab Five topiaries of “band leader” Mickey Mouse plus Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto and Donald Duck topiaries. With the playground’s interactive drums, chimes and xylophones, children can create their own musical sounds when they’re not scampering across innovative outdoor climbing systems with safe, but challenging, net-based structures. Watch for music-themed plants that add harmony to this inspired play area. The popular Cactus Road Rally play garden returns with Disney-Pixar topiary pals Mater and Lightning McQueen from the hit film, “Cars.”
    • Fun Fresh Weekends add novel dimension to daily festival fun: April 1-3 — Art in the Garden Weekend spotlights nature through the works of plein air artists; April 8-10 – The new Family Fun Weekend presents outdoor activities for everyone to enjoy and a Festival Center focus on bugs with Disney’s Animal Kingdom specialists; April 22-24 – Earth Day Weekend celebrates our planet with special appearances and activities; and April 29-May 1—Florida Fresh Weekend features the state’s edible bounty from Apalachicola to Zellwood.
    • On the south side of Spaceship Earth, Disney gardeners will paint the landscape with a Floral Sun garden and yellow “sunbursts” will sprout in a new Future World topiary garden featuring Minnie Mouse and Pluto.
    • The Ranger Mickey topiary garden in Future World will offer a guest selfie and family photo opportunity featuring a Spaceship Earth backdrop to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Parks Service launched in 1916 to conserve the country’s natural scenic treasures.
    • Anna and Elsa topiaries will travel to the Norway pavilion festival landscape following their 2015 debut along World Showcase Plaza in a scene from the blockbuster Oscar-winning animated film, “Frozen.” Nearly 100 topiary characters, including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Lady and the Tramp, Simba and Peter Pan, will animate the Epcot landscape surrounded by themed gardens featuring herbs, peppers, orchids and more.
    • By night, twinkling lights will shine across festival gardens and topiaries.
    • The Garden Rocks concert series will present pop bands with music spanning four decades. This year’s lineup kicks off March 4-6 with The Orchestra starring former members of ELO and will also include new-to-the-festival acts like Bad Company.
    • A new edible flower garden by The Land pavilion will showcase petals with flavor.
    • The Butterflies on the Go garden will return with the story of the Monarch’s epic journey across the continent and featuring butterflies emerging from their chrysalises.
    • Each weekend at the Festival Center, guests can dig in for a complimentary hands-on Gardening Seminar experience and create a take-home souvenir or grab a seat to hear tips from experts on a broad range of topics. The center also offers signature festival merchandise, food and beverages.

Sooo many things to look forward to! If only I can get all this packing done...

HOLY CRUD NUGGETS!!! That is a great outfit. You are one talented and creative woman. I like how you are using some piece for multiple nights! Well done!! You also look very beautiful in all your dresses. I'd say your packing is going well. I can't wait to hear more.

Steven's costume is great! I always get cold inside, even in the peak of summer, so long dresses are great. Cruise documents are exciting! I am looking forward to the new stuff at F&G as well. Wow, 3 weeks! Time is going to fly.

On more exciting news, we got our MAGIC BANDS!!

So exciting!! :dogdance:

I want to bring everything and yet I like to travel light.

Impossible goals. :sad2:

Overall his outfit was cheaper than buying a Han Solo costume set, but I liked it better than some of the pre-packaged outfits.

Awesome job with the costume! It looks great and I agree, better than the costumes you can buy. Better quality. ::yes:: I can't wait to see when you reveal yours. :goodvibes

Tough to choose but I would say #1 and #3.

Oh, yay! I hope he's there in August, my boys love him.

Which dress(es) should I take?
I like all three but if you are trying to cut one from the pack list I like 1 and 3 best.

Ugh... you tease... I wish we had the budget for more than one park day!

HOLY CRUD NUGGETS!!! That is a great outfit. You are one talented and creative woman. I like how you are using some piece for multiple nights! Well done!! You also look very beautiful in all your dresses. I'd say your packing is going well. I can't wait to hear more.

Thank you!! I appreciate the nice comments! I was worried we couldn't come up with anything but Han Solo's outfit is surprisingly easy. I'm actually bringing some red ribbon to put down the sides of the navy pants. I'm going to use some temporary hem tape to see if it attaches. If not, then it'll be ok I'm sure everyone will know who he is. :rotfl:

Steven's costume is great! I always get cold inside, even in the peak of summer, so long dresses are great. Cruise documents are exciting! I am looking forward to the new stuff at F&G as well. Wow, 3 weeks! Time is going to fly.

Thanks! Yeah I know, It's crazy how the date just crept up on me. I think it's because Since Thanksgiving, time flew by really quickly and before we knew it, we're at February!

So exciting!! :dogdance:

It is!!

Impossible goals. :sad2:

Yeah totally. I never know what to pack for Disney so I want to bring everything "just in case"

Awesome job with the costume! It looks great and I agree, better than the costumes you can buy. Better quality. ::yes:: I can't wait to see when you reveal yours. :goodvibes

Thank you!! Hehe you'll have to wait and see...

Tough to choose but I would say #1 and #3.

Thanks! Those are the ones that I had temporarily packed. The middle one (the purple one) is actually a tinkerbell print, which is cute, but the dress is a little low-cut on the front and the back is very low, almost backless that it would be hard to find a bra to go with it, that's why I wore the cardigan. Think I'm happy with 1 and 3!

Oh, yay! I hope he's there in August, my boys love him.

I hope so! He must be really popular!

I know! It's hard to plan for how much time to spend there because who knows what it's going to look like? :confused3

I'm fully intending to explore every inch of Star Wars Launch Bay - I hope it is interesting enough to spend a lot of time here.

That sounds interesting. Does it replace the anime exhibit that was there last year?

Yes, I believe it does!

Nope! I'm starting to pack up my stuff.

Haha cool. I'm not the only one. I technically started laying clothes aside in December...:cutie:

Your going as slave leia aren't you! :rotfl2::thumbsup2

How did you know?!? I've always wanted to parade around half naked on a cruise ship with little kids and grandparents!!
He he he...

WOW he looks great!

Thanks!!

I like all three but if you are trying to cut one from the pack list I like 1 and 3 best.

Thanks! Another vote for 1 and 3!!

WHAT?!? Nooo!!!! Not the Carrot Cake Cookie!!!

I know!!!! It's sad...I thought they sold that cookie elsewhere at DHS too but not being able to get it at writer's stop is just :sad1:

Ugh... you tease... I wish we had the budget for more than one park day!

At least you're still going to the parks! One day is better than 0 days!

Haha, they would be!!! They look awesome! Pricey but cool. I'll keep this in mind as a gift for some people I know!

Haha cool. I'm not the only one. I technically started laying clothes aside in December...:cutie:
Nope infact I would be more like you accept that Moving has be a tad behind the 8 ball. And we still have to fininsh getting the old house cleaned out! :crazy2: I swear this trip will end up being like my big reward for getting through this nonsense.

How did you know?!? I've always wanted to parade around half naked on a cruise ship with little kids and grandparents!!
He he he...
:rotfl2::rotfl: I KNEW IT!!:rotfl::lmao:

I thought they sold that cookie elsewhere at DHS too
Ooo your right! yay! :thumbsup2

At least you're still going to the parks! One day is better than 0 days!
True!

Can't believe our trip is less than 3 weeks away! I have been waiting for this trip for the better part of a year. So much anticipation! So much excitement! :woohoo:
Girl, it is going to be here in a BLINK! I am so so so excited for you! :cutie:

On more exciting news, we got our MAGIC BANDS!!
YAAAY! Makes it feel so much more REAL, doesn't it?! :goodvibes

Am I just starting to pack too early?
No such thing. (Says the girl who is already sorta packing for her October trip...)

YES COSTUMES. For STAR WARS DAY AT SEA. My outfit will be a surprise.
OMG OMG OMG! I can't wait to seeee! :hyper:

That scruffy-looking nerfherder!
AHHHH!!! This is AWESOME! You did a GREAT job! ::yes::

Cute cute cute! I love it! :goodvibes

Which dress(es) should I take?
DEFINTELY #3! You look like a goddess in #3. That's a gorgeous dress. For your second one, I vote for #2... But I'm partial to florals and pastels. #1 looks great on you, too! :-)

I heard Kylo Ren is gonna make an appearance at Star Wars Launch Bay at DHS! How exiting. I don't think he'll be on the boat so I'll have to try and get his picture at DHS.
I read that too, but I can't remember the date he's supposed to take Darth Vader's spot in the Launch Bay! :confused3 Soon, I'm assuming!

I thought of you today when I heard the Fantasy was having engine trouble and had to skip Castaway Cay. Total bummer for those guys on that cruise!:sad1: I'm sure they will have everything spit spot by your cruise time!

Love your DH's STar Wars outfit! Wow that's amazing! I love that you guys are going all out for your dress up days. We did also when we were on our Halloween cruise. We had to bring a separate garment bag just for costumes! :p

Love the maxi dresses! My favorites on you are #1 & #3 vava voom! :thumbsup2

I've been in OTRR (Obsessive Trip Report Reading) Mode for weeks now as my trip nears and popped over here after reading yours. I'm afraid I might unintentionally be a stalker after reading your first page here. My travel dates are the same as your WDW portion. We will also be celebrating my birthday on the trip (technically it's our honeymoon too, but ya know...). And we're booked for 'Ohana for the birthday dinner (no way I'd get my husband into V&A's). So now I'm going to go read the rest of this to see what else I'm inadvertently stealing from you.

Oh my gosh those are some cute outfits!!! Love your style girl!!!

Han Steve O, awesomeness!

Ok so I turned 40 on Friday.....eeeek......I'm on the other side. It's ok....breath deep. It's not so bad ......of course I've been partying and drinking all weekend like a 25 yr old party::drinking1:sick:party:

17 Days until Disney Fantasy Cruise
24 Days until Walt Disney World

Wow. Just shocking that you are so close...and that it is Feb 8 today...gah!! But soon your trip will be here...and hopefully winter will be on it's way out lol

I want to bring everything and yet I like to travel light.

I totally get this...you want to have enough options...but not have to carry much lol

Also Writer's Stop is supposed to be closing. Sad as it's a favorite pit stop for a coffee and a place to sit outside of the heat.

This is sad news indeed. I do hope they find somewhere else to serve all the goodies that they had there.
