Concierge to Stateroom??

Has anyone done this? Our very first cruise (2014) we were in a 1 bedroom suite on the Dream. We are cruising again on the Wonder and will again be in a 1 bedroom suite. My husband and I have been talking and consistently cruising at concierge level is just not an option for us. Has everyone cruised at concierge level then gone down to a stateroom? I've read some blogs and they all say the same thing - once you sail concierge you won't want to go back but I don't think it would be that bad.

Our first cruise was in concierge and our second was in a regular verandah storeroom. The experience was night and day and we've only cruised concierge since.

When the children were little we did the one bedroom suite, but as they grew older and needed more space we opted for 2 staterooms - usually a verandah and an inside room across the hall. We splurged for the Disney Suite a few years ago and it left us totally disappointed. We had far better service on all our other cruises, concierge or non concierge. The service is excellent all over the ship. Good luck in making your decision

Why didn't you like the suite?
We are getting one next cruise as a big splurge

Posting from concierge as we approach Castaway Cay. DW surprised me with concierge on this cruise and we have already deposited for a future 2017 cruise that will most likely be conc. again. Just the two of us and I see no problems with going with a regular stateroom for next time but when the date we have planned opens up the decision will be made then.

Our first DCL sailing was in a normal verandah room. Our second DCL sailing we booked a concierge level sailing and we can't imagine going back. We'll complete our third concierge sailing for christmas this year and then we are off to try equivalent sailings with Celebrity and RCCL to compare the differences. Stepping back down to a "normal" sailing, I just don't see us doing that. All that extra Disney magic does come with a cost but for an example, calling concierge service just this week they were able to get us booked into a sold out excursion that we wanted. That is just one of many things we have done with concierge that I doubt you would have gotten going through Guest Services.

Having sailed about 20 times with Disney I was disappointed with the service when we were in the Roy Disney Suite. The Concierge hostess told us the first day that this was her last cruise and she was moving to another ship to be with her boyfriend (then she basically forgot about us). The stateroom attendant didn't empty our trash for days and the complimentary fruit was growing mold before we removed it ourselves. We asked for daily ice in the morning and evening - something we get in a standard stateroom and were told there were no more ice buckets. We were sailing with several other couples who had ice buckets. We were there to enjoy the cruise, and we did. It became a joke in our group that if we needed something, we called one of the other rooms and they ordered it for us. The suite itself was awesome. We were grateful for the week and time with our friends. We didn't make waves. We put submitted our comments but got no response from disney which surprised me. Oh well. My expectations were set too high.

Our 9th cruise was concierge on Fantasy and 10th was 2 weeks on the Wonder non-concierge. It was fine.

I think it helped that it was the Wonder because it didn't have the lounge/sundeck. But we are booked again on Fantasy Concierge for next year. We all agreed cruising was going to get a lot more expensive after our concierge exposure. But also for us, we normally sail with several staterooms and liked the lounge to have a central meet up place. If its just mom and I sailing I imagine we would not splurge for concierge.

We've only been on Dream.

1st cruise concierge category V
2nd cruise inside stateroom
3rd cruise concierge category V
4th cruise normal verandah room

All perfectly fine. We definitely do NOT need concierge level every time. And in fact the last time the service was so cloying and fake (and we had concierge hosts that are clamored after by others) that ds and I weren't impressed at all. DH was but he always is if we can get concierge or club level anywhere.

Also, since dream has the lounge, we have found that we make that our home base and see/experience far less of the ship when we are paying for concierge (and I've only booked when the price difference was minimal), which feels sad in retrospect once the cruise is done.

I don't think I could ever go back down, We do the 1 bedroom suite as well.

The lowest I think I could possible go is the "normal" conceriage level room that is a step below the 1 bedroom.

I can't imagine cruising in one of the regular rooms, it would be horrible.

We have sailed concierge 4 times with the kids & non-concierge 2 times without. We have not been disappointed when sailing non-concierge. The perks are nice but we have always had a great time regardless. We will most likely be sailing non-concierge in the near future with the kids and I am not worried in the least about being disappointed.

On our first cruise, the two of us booked a family suite concierge level, on the Dream (4 day) during the off season (Jan) We had a great time but we didn't utilize the concierge services all that much. We used the lounge for coffee and some snacks and it was nice having the sun deck area to ourselves most days. The biggest perk for us that I will miss this time around will be the canned drinks, the bagged popcorn and the unlimited sunscreen. This time around there are 7 of us doing two 4a staterooms over spring break Mar 28th on the Dream- The cost was so outrageous to do concierge it simply isnt worth it for us --- not to say that if a fair amount of pixie dust occurs as an upgrade option I wouldn't consider it.... lol but overall I'm not going to miss it that much.

We have done both and the two things I would miss most in the regular staterooms are (1) the extra space and (2) ordering MDR roomservice. But the non-concierge is not in the least bit disappointing.

The way our family is right now, we would not enjoy having all of us in one regular cabin for 7 nights, and the kids are too young to sleep in a non-connecting cabin without an adult.

But when they are older, I would definitely go back to regular and get a verandah for the adults and an inside across the hall for the kids.

First, just to emphasize the premise, there are 1250 staterooms on the Dream and Fantasy and 40 of those are concierge. That means roughly 96.8% of the passengers on each cruise do not have access to concierge. Concierge on DCL is a very exclusive form of travel that unfortunately is beyond the budget of most families.

I chose concierge for our most recent cruise after opting for regular rooms for our first two. We were a party of 9 and shared rooms 12004 (concierge stateroom) and 12012 (1-bedroom suite) on the Fantasy. My main reason for justifying the extra cost was that we were 3 generations together and I wanted more private room for grandparents, some with mobility issues, and grandchildren to be together. During our first two cruises, we spent almost no time in the staterooms. Instead, we were constantly splitting up and moving around the ship: some doing the AquaDuct while others were in the pool or in the theatre watching a movie etc. That worked perfectly for parents with children and we all had a blast. But, with a larger party including the grandparents, I felt that paying twice the price was worth it.

The concierge cruise ended up very different from our previous ones. We spent the vast majority of the time together, either in the lounge, the suite (in particular the extra large verandah that comes with 12012), or the sundeck (which the family curiously loved, we hardly saw another guest up there the entire cruise). I've never seen my extended family talk and interact as much as we did this week. I had hoped it would work that way, but it far exceeded my expectations. When someone went somewhere else on the ship, it would be to do something very specific and they would then come back and join the rest of us. Another thing, we absolutely loved, was to bail out of the MDR dinners early and have dessert up in the lounge where we'd put 3 tables together and sit, everyone together, and talk. It was _so_ much nicer and quieter.

To answer the question of the OP, I would definitely have said that I could go back to a regular DCL cruise before trying concierge, but I find it much harder to answer after I actually did. I've noticed that prices are going up significantly for concierge and an equivalent cruise next year would be 15-20%. The more prevalent question for me is "if I don't want to pay for DCL concierge, what is the best alternative with another cruise line"?

It will be horrible to be with the regular guests. They should be locked in like you see on titanic for at least a few hours a day so the conceriage guests can have the whole ship to themselves.im also tired of waiting for the regular guests in buffet, store etc. they need to get out of our way we paid a lot more for our cruise than they did. Also in the night clubs or in the theatre if they are in a seat we want we should be able to move them. This is just horrible. We also need a night to ourselves in palo and remy.

Our first 3 DCL cruises were in an aft cabin Cat 5E. Our last 4 have been in a Concierge 1 BR and the 4 we currently have booked are in Concierge 1 BR. We love sailing in Concierge and we really don't leave the Concierge area very much. We also like the ability to book things 125 days out and we have never been told no when making requests. We just find that sailing Concierge is what we like and actually less stressful for the 2 of us. All that being said I'm sure we would have a great time in an aft 5E like we have in the past. If you were to give us a choice between either taking 2 cruises in a regular cabin or 1 cruise in a 1 bedroom or even a Concierge Cat V we would choose the 1 Concierge cruise over the 2 regular room cruises, we like what we like.

I'm wondering why they even ALLOW "regular" people on my cruise. ***EYE ROLL***
