Disney's BOARDWALK INN Information & Questions

I can't wait to hear what room location you get this week! As you know we are in the same situation and are really hoping for a Boardwalk view but we also really want to be inside the security doors. I feel like I'm asking too much wanting it to be the same as all of our past trips were. I have awhile before online check-in but over the phone I requested both boardwalk view and inside the security doors. I hope you have a great trip and come back and tell us all about it.
I can't wait to hear what room location we have either, LOL;) This BWI setup is all new to me because we have only stayed at GF, BC and Poly which have all the CL rooms together, as you probably know. GF is good about honoring our requests but BC...not so much...so we shall see! I have a feeling my DH will be working some from there, so I'll try to post some Christmas decor pics:)
Anyone there now to report if the slide is still closed and if theyre allowing guests to use SAB? We will arrive in one week!! AHHH!!
I will try to remember to ask about this if no one else beats me to it before Thursday;)

We got a "about your arrival" email for our upcoming trip (woo hoo!!), and it had this funny line in it:

Here's a current pic of the slide from our room. It's closed. If I hadn't read on here about using SAB, I wouldn't have known about it. Nothing was said at check-in and there was nothing in the room. (We are staying DVC on rented points, if that matters.) I asked at the front desk the day after check-in, and the CM said we could go to YC/BC. We are going to try to do some swimming this afternoon, so I'll let you know if we have any issues.

We got an "Important Information" e-mail about our upcoming BWV trip. Nothing about the pool, but I had read about that even before Disney Khi's post. (Which is the best evidence I've seen! Thanks!) Our arrival date is 12/19. Text of the e-mail we received yesterday is below:

Dear XXXX Family,

We are delighted you have chosen to stay with us at Disney's BoardWalk Inn and Villas and look forward to your arrival.

In an effort to continually enhance the Guest experience here at the Walt Disney World® Resort, it is necessary for us to refresh our offerings from time to time. In preparation for your upcoming visit, we want to make you aware of work that will be occurring during your stay.

Upon your arrival, you will notice several Resort refurbishments in process including routine exterior maintenance and painting. It is possible that you may experience noise; however, work with the highest potential for noise will be limited to the hours of 9:00am to 5:00pm.

While this work is taking place, please know we are making every effort to ensure your comfort and enjoyment of all we have to offer. We apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding.

If you need assistance with your reservation, please contact your original booking agent listed on your confirmation letter. If you booked through the Walt Disney World Resort or have additional questions, please call 407-939-7542 and one of our Cast Members will be happy to assist you.

We eagerly await your arrival and wish you a truly magical stay!

Sincerely,

I'm not too concerned since we are typically at the parks all day although we do like to come back to the resort for a mid-afternoon freshen up and rest time.

I cant thank you enough for responding and for the photo. Please let me know how it goes trying! Enjoy your day and thanks again!

KOOK- I think they have been told to stick with the story that the BWI now has a Standard view and a boardwalk view for club level. I tried every way I could think of to explain my situation but she just politely stuck to the view and not room story. My problem with the whole thing is that the price that I paid (with discount) for a standard room falls in between the standard view and the boardwalk view. So will I get a refund if I receive a standard (garden view) or will I have to pay more if I receive a boardwalk view? When I asked she told me I would get the room I paid for so I gave up. I will just have to wait and see. :)

I think I understand, so what would have been the rack rate for a BWI-CL room when you booked, is now in between the current rack rate for a SV and BWV CL room? I'm sorry if I missed/forgot it, but did you already contact the IPO about this? I assume you had/have a request in for a BWV?

It IS SL :) Although, I haven't cancelled BWI yet, I'm not ready to "let it go" ;) Sorry, I couldn't help it. I have to decide by tomorrow. Most of our plans are on the EPCOT side so IDK...but two rooms at SL and the kids not complaining about Grandma snoring is also tempting :)

What did you decide?

We arrived and never got the text about the room, so were escorted to the front desk, where a very nice, and VERY patient Angel from Puerto Rico checked us in....ground floor. We asked if we could switch to a higher floor, and after much searching and discussing with the room assigner, he finally told us that nothing was open on the Epcot side, but there was a 5th floor room available now on the other side overlooking the entrance from the boardwalk. We finally decided on that one, and imagine our surprise when we got to our room and found it was a water view...I'll post more later but here's a photo of our view...room 5277.

Thank you for posting your photos of your gorgeous view:)

Yep, seems they mixed the One Bedroom up with the Studio that now accommodates 5 or else the tub or balcony is now considered an official sleeping area?

Thank you for posting your photo and here is the announcement from AllEars last night:

The BoardWalk's Luna Park Pool slide has been closed for maintenance for at least two weeks. The maintenance work was apparently unanticipated as the closure still does not appear on any official refurbishment schedules. Unconfirmed guest reports suggest it may be up to two weeks before the slide will reopen for guest use. While the Luna Park slide is closed, BoardWalk guests are apparently permitted to use the Stormalong Bay pool complex at nearby Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. BoardWalk guests should check with a Cast Member to confirm the policy and inquire about transportation to Stormalong Bay.

Well, pooh on them. No email here. They must not want us to know this Important Information :(

Does anyone have a picture of what the daybed looks like pulled out & ready for bed? I can't recall seeing one online.

KOOK- I did send two separate e-mails to the BWI IPO on this room matter but except for the "we received your e-mail and will be in touch" I didn't hear from them so I did give them a call. The very nice woman I spoke with at first didn't seem to know what I was talking about and just kept repeating the same "you will get what you booked" commits and then she told me that it was a reservation question and sounding very relieved to send me to them. Talking to reservations he insisted that I was wrong and that you couldn't book a view at the BWI CL that it was only by request. I had it up on my computer and was telling him what I was seeing and he insisted that I was wrong. I gave up. I didn't mean it to be such a big deal and was really just curious on how they were handling it, now I'm really curious! Yes I am hoping for a boardwalk view room and booked at the time a standard BWI CL room with a spring discount. It was totally a fluke that I noticed the change in how they book the views and the change in prices. You are correct that the price I paid is now in between the two price categories.

I really didn't mean to make a big deal out of it and have just decided to request by phone a boardwalk view, inside the Innkeepers door and hope for the best. We will be staying 3 nights first at the RPC GF and then switching to the BWI and I'm sure it will be fine. I just have come to love the BWI CL over our last 4 visits and hate to see too much change.

Your last name is XXXX? That seems hard to pronounce. What nationality is that?
(I kill me.)

Here's my SAB pool update:

We did successfully swim there today. I talked to a lady at the BW concierge desk and she said that it was fine and told me about transportation, which I had clarified by our cart driver.

You can just walk over to SAB, no problem. If you want to ride in the cart over to SAB, walk straight back behind the main BW pool to the path that goes behind the pool (between the pool and the canal). If the cart and driver are not there, go to one of the lifeguards and tell them that you need transportation to SAB, and they'll get someone for you. They drive you in the cart over the bridge and in front of the YC and drop you off at the entrance at Hurricane Hanna's/by the pick-a-pearl booth.

When we got to SAB, the attendant scanned our MB's and we just walked in like we were staying at YC/BC. We stayed at SAB for a few hours. When we were ready to leave we walked over to the pool entrance at Hurricane Hannah's. We could see the cart wasn't out there, so we told the lifeguard standing there that we needed transportation back to the BW. (This is what the cart driver had told us to do.) The lifeguard said something to another lifeguard and then told us to wait back where we had been dropped off. The cart and driver picked us up in just a few minutes and drove us right back to the BW pool.

It was all very easy, although we had some initial confusion over where to get the cart at the BW pool. If you ask one of the lifeguards, they can help you out.

There were other guests going back and forth between the resorts, too, not just us.

I asked our driver if he knew how long the BW slide would be down, and he said at least another week, but they weren't sure.

I was actually glad to get to use SAB. I usually prefer to stay at YC/BC because I like swimming there so much, so this was a great treat for me. :)

I hope this info helps someone. We had a great time, and I'm really glad that Disney is allowing us to use the other pool. I would have understood if they didn't, but I feel like this is a great example of Disney guest service done right.

Our arrival date is 12/19, so the pool slide will probably be open by then. Since DD is now 21 and not 12, the slide isn't a big deal to us and we typically just use the quiet pool on the Inn side. Often, it is just us there so it's like having a private pool. I almost hope the Luna slide is still being worked on when we're there so we can experience SAB. Being from Michigan and spending many summer days on the great lakes beaches, having a sand bottom pool is not a big draw. I would like to give it a whirl though, just to try it out. We shall see.

Oh, and GO GREEN on Saturday! My Spartans are playing for the B10 title. (Just had to get that in.)

Safe travels and let us know about your room location!
I am happy to report that I got my request to be within the CL security door and got a king bed too! I did not get a boardwalk view, but I had taken that off my requests since location was most important to me.

I understand your frustration! I would be upset too! Honestly, it seems that a lot of CMs think they know everything when actually, very few do! We often stay in the Deluxe room GF RPC when we go with our kids, and when we were there in October, my daughter wanted to take a friend. When I called to add her, they tried to tell me that the room doesn't have a sleeper sofa and could only occupy four. When the rooms were renovated over a year ago, they had added the queen size sleeper sofa, but evidently, they never changed the occupancy limits. I knew they were wrong about the sleeper sofa being in the room, but what I know to be true from actual experience doesn't matter since I don't work for Disney...very frustrating indeed! I really hope you get what you want:) So far, I think BWI is very pretty, and I like its location on crescent lake for a change. It's definitely cheaper than GF:)

I just saw your post on the CL board but I see you were a step ahead of me and answered my question here:) We are very similar to you except we often stay at the BWI CL and this time around will be at the RPC GF first and then changing over to the BWI CL. Isn't it crazy when we know more than the CM? I keep telling myself to just go with the flow and it will all work out but that is just so against my everyday nature. My husband and I run a business together so that's part of the problem, just need to be on top of everything! Have a great time and lots of pixiedust:.

anyone know the hours for stormalong bay since the luna is closed? we are coming tomorrow, but won't be in until 8:30, so i was hopeful we could check it out!

It was open until 10:00 pm on Wednesday, but I don't know if that's true every day.

Good to finally hear that. I know I've said it before, but it never made sense to use more points for a 1 BR and not have room for extra guests staying there. I wonder if it is the Murphy Bed setup. Please let me know.

You mean they're not? My wife seems to think so whenever I make her mad. :rotfl2:

Sleeping in the hot tub might not be all that bad as long as the water stays warm. :lmao:
