Character Signatures

This is our first time doing Character meals or possible meet and greets. What is the rule for character autographs? Not allowed at meals?

Also, we plan on getting DS the official 2015 autograph and photo book. Can the characters use metallic sharpies for signatures? The pen that comes with the book seems to be a regular sized pen...do we need to get a giant sized one?

Thanks for any advice.

Unless specifically stated otherwise, characters do sign at meals. (Minnie's Holiday Dine is one I can think of off the top of my head that does NOT sign...but you get a little card with everyone's signature on it.) They like it when you have your books open and ready to go. And yes, they can use just about any pen you have for them.

There are a few characters who do NOT sign, like the Beast. Belle doesn't sign at the Enchanted Tales with Belle show, but she does at Akershus and France.

Characters can and will sign at meals. Exception being the Minnie's Holiday meal at HS
I have found characters can use every type of pen made, from oversized to regular sized. I always help them out (especially fur characters) by getting the pen ready, and having the page to be signed ready.

Ah yes, there are several characters who's costumes do not permit them to sign autographs.
Beast
both Monsters at Monsters's Inc
Buzz (but I believe he may have a stamp)
I believe King Louie was unable to sign the one time we found him out
And I'm sure I'm forgetting some others

Yes, at all the character meals I'e been too they've allowed autographs. We just used a regular sized pen but many people bring their own "special" colored one. Like pp mentioned have books open and ready and hand them the pen/marker you want to use and make sure they don't accidentally take it onto the next table. Also, sometimes with non face characters (costumed characters) it helps them if you hold the book. In my own experience it seemed they spent more time talking to my kids when we didn't have them sign books.

Thanks for the advice. Not sure if my 2 year old will be scared or not but we want to at least give him the option of meeting the Fab Five and Pooh. Have a metallic marker all ready to go.

Just out of curiosity, why don't they sign at Minnie's Holiday Dine? I have no experience with it whatsoever and don't even know what the layout is like or anything.

And Buzz does have a stamp, or at least he did three years ago when I got his signature!

We never got an explanation for no signatures. In fact, if I hadn't heard about the signature cards ahead of time and noticed them on the table as we entered the restaurant, we wouldn't have even gotten those (they were never offered).

My theory based on overhearing some managers talking....I have a suspicion they use this dinner as character training. At least, that's what they were doing the night we were there. So maybe they don't want characters signing who aren't "official" yet? I dunno. Or maybe it's just to keep the flow of the interaction going smoothly. It really did speed up the meet & greets at the tables. Not in a rushed feeling kind of way, but just in a "no dead air while someone signs a book" kind of way.
