Disney's BOARDWALK INN Information & Questions

We've never gotten to stay at BWI before, so I'm super excited! Thought about putting in a request for a room, not sure what I would be requesting? What is the layout like? Is there a better section to be in than another? We are a family of 5 with just a plain old standard view room! Thoughts? Suggestions???

Hi! We stayed in BC last trip (2014). After a day in the parks and a shower, DD and I liked taking the elevator down to Marketplace for hot tea or cocoa in our refillable mugs. If we wanted the same at BWI, we'd have to go out of the Inn, to the Boardwalk Bakery?

My wife is a TA now and she heard from someone in her TA company that they had to do work on the main pool because of an issue with the clown slide (effectively starting their January pool refurb early), and they were shuttling people over to Stormalong Bay instead. No other confirmation or information...

Has anyone had issues with the bus service at BWI? I read a review somewhere else that stated that bus service from BWI is SLLLOOOOWWWWW. If this is true, how are people getting around? I think it is a bus to MK correct? If we are wanting to get there by 8:30 to see rope drop, sooooo should we walk to Epcot and take the monorail? But I don't think Epcot opens until 9:00, so I'm guessing that will not work. Any suggestions? We missed rope drop last year because we thought the boats would get us there in time, but they didn't come until 9:00 and I don't want to miss it this time!!! It's one of my favorite parts of hte day! Or is this review not typical and bus service is actually fine?

This is true. We just got back from our first BWI stay (11/14-11/21) and the clown slide was not in use. The main pool was still open, but we had a notice in our room that we could use Stormalong Bay if we wanted. I wish I had seen the flyer sooner so that we could've gone over to check it out. But since this was just a trip for my husband and I without the kids it didn't pose much of a problem for us.

We were there in October during the busy F&W Festival. The bus to MK became a dedicated bus while we were there. Since it is no longer sharing with other resorts, the bus was not full either time we needed it and it was timely. Getting to MK before rope drop was not a problem for us--we left around 8:00 a.m. and arrived within 20 minutes or so. Of course with all things Disney--buses change and we never know when that dedicated bus might not be so dedicated. Hope you find it the same as we did. :thumbsup2

Going through EPCOT would not achieve your goals since you would not get to the monorail until well after 9:00 a.m. UNLESS it was an EMH at EPCOT. I would doubt you would make rope drop at MK even if it was an EMH morning at EPCOT and you went directly to the monorail.

We had no problems with the bus service in Oct.

Bus reviews are always traced back to a matter of timing. It's much like driving down a road with a lot of traffic signals. Some days you can drive it and hit is so you never stop at a single red light. Other days you can drive it and get caught at every one. You did nothing wrong or different, just had back luck. If you were to only drive it the one time and got caught at all the lights you'd hate the road but if the car 5 behind you drove it and go them all green they'd love it. Same way with buses. Some folks are just snake bit and always hit the stops just so and have a long wait. Where another on the same day can walk up as the bus comes each time and think they are great.

We are snake bit with the monorail. If we need to take it you can be sure it will have a delay in leaving the station or have a long stop while in route. Every time.

We never had any problems getting to the MK, once we were on the bus. The problem was getting the bus. We took 2 last week to the MK, and we had to wait 25 minutes for each bus to arrive. One day 3 AK buses, and 2 Disney Springs buses came and went before we finally got our MK bus. This was the first trip I have ever had that issue. It wasn't the biggest deal, just a bit annoying, especially when you are trying to get there early for rope drop.

This was our experience also when we were there in October...long wait both going to and coming from MK...once it was well over 1/2 hour. But, it was F&W and the crowds were awful...so...could be very different now.

We got the cutest elephant towel last month at CBR.
Wow, you are lucky. The staff has been told they could face termination if caught making towels. Seems too many guests demanded them and they became a time suck for Mousekeeping

Out of our 15 stays, we never actually had an animal except for the check in Mickey head, which doesn't really count.

My good firend and Disney Travel Buddy and I will be arriving tomorrow for a short "we gotta see the Osborne lights one last time" trip. Originally, I had entered "ground floor" as a room request on the online check in form,so that we were sure not to get a parking lot view, but then changed my mind, and of course couldn't edit it. None of the reservation chat folks or the IT folks could change it or clear out my original request, so I made different room requests using the touringplan fax. We'll see what we end up with.

Anyway, we're looking forward to seeing all the Christmas decorations and shows while we are there!

For some reason once you make a choice it can't be undone. But I don't know why you couldn't get help on the phone as others have had no problem getting it changed with a phone call. Maybe try again?

Got an email an hour ago that we passed ROFR. Closing paperwork should be sent in about 35 days. Just in time for Christmas. :-)

Yippee!!

If a person wanted a chance at one of the obstructed boardwalk views mentioned you would have to request 4th floor? Or are there similar obstructed views on different floors? It's not a big deal to us but just curious. We have reservations before park opening for GG in Epcot so a little bit nervous about trying to get in by International Gateway. Never actually had to do this before with Epcot. On an early morning walk with coffee while I was staying over at YC I noticed a white gate up somewhere near that entrance.

No problem with getting through the IG as they have a list of those who have early ADRs. It's about a 10 minute walk from BWI to the IG and about another 15 minute walk to GG. It's so nice and peaceful early in the morning.

Hello! Just checking in to introduce myself as a first time to the BWV, but this will be our 16th trip to Disney! We finally bit the bullet to DVC in 2012. I really need some assistance from the BWV experts on a room request. We will be in a preferred studio and I love a pool view. However, I am a very, very light sleeper. Last year we had a bad experience with our lake view at the Poly because of those damn boat horns. I do not want to relive that experience. Please help and thank you!

Welcome to the thread!

My trip next October is finalized. I was on with MS this morning, doing my daily switch from pool/garden view to boardwalk view. I couldn't get the 20th and was working on the 21st, when the CM suddenly said that the 20th just opened up and she would be able to get me the whole week in a boardwalk view. I just love MS. They really do try to accommodate you as much as possible. Meanwhile, we're three weeks away from our next stay at BWV. Can't wait.

WOOHOO!

So my BWI stay next month is no more, we were offered the chance to do GF CL again. I won't lie and say I am confident I made the perfect decision, but I will say I believe in Disney magic and I was promised a magical trip to make up for a not-so-magical trip a few weeks ago :)

"Offered the chance" has many interesting possibilities:scratchin. I hope it's SL this time since I know you love it there.

After almost an hour on the phone with the IPO office and reservations I can tell you all that I know almost less now then I did before. For anyone who didn't read my above posts I noticed a few days ago that the BWI CL now has a different price structure for views and not just a standard view with a set price. This option was not available when I booked so I sent an e-mail last week asking what view was I receiving. After getting no response(other than the we received your e-mail response) I called the BWI IPO. She was very polite and after looking it up she saw that yes they had changed things and that I had a standard view reserved. I said yes that the was the only option that I had when I booked. After another lengthy hold I was told that if they had a boardwalk available when I checked in they would upgrade me to boardwalk view. When I told her the boardwalk view shows no availability she said that unless they had a cancelation I would get a standard view. When I asked if that meant a garden or pool view she said yes.

The problem with all this is when they changed bookings they lowered the standard view price slightly and increased the "new" boardwalk view by $100 per night. When I asked if I would get a refund if I received a garden view I was told no and since I had booked with the spring discount I was still receiving a discount rate, just not as much as I had originally. Then I was sent to reservations.

A very polite man then told me that the BWI didn't have a different rate for different views and wanted to know where I had gotten that mistaken info. from. I told him it came from Disney's booking page. He said they didn't have that info yet and that I had a standard reservation and that I could request a boardwalk view on arrival. When I said don't you mean at least 5 days in advance and he said that he had worked at a CL for years and that CL rooms are always given out at arrival not ahead of time. So he recommended I get there early and see if I could get a requested boardwalk room. In all my Disney CL stays and years here on this board that was a new one to me.

Now you know why I am just as confused as before I called!:) If anyone is at the BWI CL in the next 2 months please ask for me how they are handling this.

It's odd they told you you had booked a Standard (CL) VIEW when that was not an option when you booked. Only a Standard (CL) ROOM would have been an option. Other than BWV, CL only has Garden/Quiet Pool views, which are very nice, but are considered Standard Views at BWI.

Some CLs will assign rooms themselves and others have the resort's Room Assignor do them. What the CM might have meant is that since the CL CM can manipulate your room assignment, they can make changes upon arrival, however, I do not believe they ever wait until arrival to assign a room, I don't believe this is even an option. But again, they can move you and make changes upon arrival and maybe that's what the CM meant?

Welcome! Most rooms at BWI are Standard View rooms as this category includes all views, except direct BoardWalk views. Most like to request an "Epcot" view and high floor. The 5th is the highest non-CL floor. These rooms face toward Epcot with partial Illuminations views and view of the garden and pool below.

Yes, outside and make a right.

Thank you for the update! Can't say I'm surprised there's an "issue" with that perpetually picked-on Clown slide, maybe it's just sad:sad:

KOOK- I think they have been told to stick with the story that the BWI now has a Standard view and a boardwalk view for club level. I tried every way I could think of to explain my situation but she just politely stuck to the view and not room story. My problem with the whole thing is that the price that I paid (with discount) for a standard room falls in between the standard view and the boardwalk view. So will I get a refund if I receive a standard (garden view) or will I have to pay more if I receive a boardwalk view? When I asked she told me I would get the room I paid for so I gave up. I will just have to wait and see. :)

I think you have spoke to folks who just didn't quite understand the issue. I'd call back and see if you can reach someone who does understand. You can't be the only one who booked CL before they change the classifications

What does MDE show as your room? And what happens if you go in and use the change reservation feature and click standard view? You can click through and see what it tells you is total due, without confirming anything. If that total is less than your old one and you are ok with standard then confirm the checkout and you have the lower rate. You may also get lucky and get a boardwalk view open up, if that is what you want. I do that process with our reservation all the time, to see what may open up. I didn't book them but a bunch of 2 bedrooms opened up for our dates today

It IS SL :) Although, I haven't cancelled BWI yet, I'm not ready to "let it go" ;) Sorry, I couldn't help it. I have to decide by tomorrow. Most of our plans are on the EPCOT side so IDK...but two rooms at SL and the kids not complaining about Grandma snoring is also tempting :)

They better not charge you more that would be RE-diculous! I would call CRO (yet again) and politely ask for guest services. Explain you just are concerned about the booking and now the category changes, I know you have called before but eventually you'll find the CM that can get you the correct info. Good luck!

I'm not sure if that will work because I booked with the early spring discount and they have no openings for that anymore on any of my dates. I have been fighting a really bad cold and sound worse than a croaking frog so I have to wait until I get my voice back to try calling them again. Strangely I did get another hello type e-mail from IPO two days ago that was almost word for word like the one that I received a day or two after I booked. I sent them a thank you e-mail listing my concerns and again except for the form letter saying they had received my e-mail and would be in touch I haven't heard a word from them. I'm sure most of the CL guests don't know about the change. I wouldn't if I hadn't looked to add a day.
