First, we are not stay at the Poly so are we even allowed to go eat at Captain Cooks?

I wanted to take our family to Kona to have the Tonga Toast and some other delicious Polynesian themed items. Then I saw that it was 1/2 the price at Captain Cooks. If we are able we would love to go there instead! But, are the portions of the meal the same size or at CC is it smaller than what we would be served at Kona?

Thank you!

Yes, you are allowed to eat at Captain cooks. You don't have to be staying at Poly to eat there, anyone can. The tonga toast itself is the same at Captain Cooks, for the most part, but you don't get as many side items with it. But trust me when I say that the tonga toast itself is very filling. It is a HUGE portion, and is very very sweet.

One difference between the tonga toast at Captain Cooks is he lack of strawberry sauce (how it is served at Kona). Captain cooks is also very busy. Personally, I would pay the extra for the nice relaxed experience at Kona. Just plan to share. Portions are large.

Thanks guys! I read on another thread that if you don't make a ressie at Kona they may not let you park to eat at CC. So, maybe a ressie would be the best way to go.

Nope, you can park for 3 hours at any resort... Just tell them at the gate you are there to tour the resort.
You do not need an ADR.

We have often visited other resorts to just tour the resort. Just tell them you are considering staying there on your next trip.

Another option is to visit CC on an MK day. Get off the monorail at the Poly, enjoy the Tonga Toast (warning - sugar alert) and then jump back on the monorail for the quick trip to MK.

I've seen recent reports to the contrary from the monorail resorts, including at least two from visitors who wanted to go to Trader Sam's but weren't allowed to self-park at the Poly without an ADR. I don't know for sure but my guess is it is tied to overall crowd levels and/or resort occupancy.

I was turned away from the Poly and Ft. Wildnerness in May of this year for parking, so I would not attempt it.

We parked at the Poly 3x on our trip 3 weeks ago without dining reservations - security didn't even blink and there was lots of parking available. Course it wasn't peak season...

We love Captain Cooks - some of the best counter service on property!
