HydroFlask has changed it's policy for the worse

Coke changed their formula in the 80's because they thought it would be a good business decision - well they were wrong and their customers let them know of their mistake. Without people letting a company know that they made a bad decision, they will continue their bad behavior. The one thing a company does not want is a bad PR experience.

Mistake? I don't think so. It was probably one of the greatest Marketing decisions of the 20th Century!

This is true -until you hire that big shot executive to make you even *MORE* money ...and you've cut a deal to let him call the shots, which his salary is dependent on. It's the difference between playing/thinking/working with your heart versus your wallet. Apparently, the wallet won in this case -and that nice guy that Kevin use to deal with is probably enjoying a pretty nice lifestyle with little worry about TheDIS. It's too bad.
When all one cares about is the bottom line, one tends to spend too much time wallowing at the bottom to find it.

I'm looking forward to info on buying Kleen Kanteen's, as I will never buy a hydroflask again. Love mine, but I will not support what I consider to be bad business practices. I'm sure the Kleen Kanteen will be an equal product!

I'm not typically a conspiracy theorist but I still wonder if the whole New Coke back to Classic Coke fiasco wasn't planned all along. One detail that is generally overlooked is that when they went back to their "original" formula, it wasn't actually the original recipe. That's when they changed from making Coke with sugar to making it with high fructose corn syrup. I can't help but think that they planned the change to mask changing the original product.

I don't know - that sounds like the typical conspiracy theorist response to me, LOL.

But in all seriousness, I have heard that too. My Marketing Professor at UWF was in the marketing department of Coke during that time. He never went into too much detail about it, because I don't think he was very high up in the marketing hierarchy or privy to that whole campaign. Now, I wish I had pressed him for more info.

Coke did have a big PR fiasco on their hands though no matter what their intention was. There are other examples of company's making big mistakes that were reversed due to public complaints.

At this point though in my life I look for loyalty - and hydroflask broke it, so I am done with them.

Lol, the original coke recipe actually had cocaine in it.

Origins: Coca-Cola was named back in 1885 for its two "medicinal" ingredients: extract of coca leaves and kola nuts. Just how much cocaine was originally in the formulation is hard to determine, but the drink undeniably contained some cocaine in its early days.

1500 units may not be big but The Dis voice and reach is huge and not something I would have overlooked as a businessman.

I know this may not seem popular but can this thread just be closed as there isn't really much new information being added at this point. If pole want to voice their opinion about this, Kevin posted the info on the first page. At this point all the thread seems to be is argumentative back and forth about who is right who is wrong or poel saying they won't buy hydro flasks and they will advise friends and family not to whatever it's your choice just as much as it is their choice too.

Unless Kevin, who is the OP, wants it closed, it will stay open for now as it is not against DIS Posting Guidelines. In the interim, feel free to check out some of the other topics being discussed. :)

Hydro Flask is now trying to bully small companies out of business including this Veteran-owned company who also sell stainless steel vacuum insulated bottles with some trademark troll tactics, check out the details at - http://igg.me/at/TH4VETS/x/12870021

Well ...welcome to the boards. Youre responding to a thread that is almost a year old, but there were many that had an issue with Hydroflask. Something doesn't seem right with this story -there is no mention of whether this competitor has been forced to stop selling his/her product because of the patent issued. If I was making a product with a special design -wouldn't I have had the patent first? Not sure I'm reading this correctly, but it sounds a little like the Veteran-owned Company may not have protected themselves. Sad story for small-business Saturday, but it happens.

Hi,
It seems Hydro Flask don't have a patent at all on this, but a trademark that they submitted numerous times that was eventually passed in September of this year, based on the President's statement saying he knew of no other bottle in use that had that unpainted strip of steal design, but watching the video Thermos, Stanley and others seemed to be doing that 'design' before 2015, so I think that's where Team Hydrate can try to get the trademark reversed.
I found out two other small businesses have pulled their product off the shelf due to the cease and desist notice sent to them by Hydro Flask, so I guess this company is fighting it. You wouldn't think they'd worry about a few online sellers when they've expanded as much as they have. Very sad.

So they have a trademark because that piece is something that distinguishes it from others ...again, if some others were using the same "look" previously but never set out to protect that "look" -shame on them. I'm guessing the others never saw a value in it, but HydroFlask did. At some point HydroFlask went "big" business and it's too bad because in the end it changes the way consumers may view them ...the goal is to make as much money as they can within the rules, of which they probably haven't broken any but there is a thing called karma. Just sayin' ....

Haha, what an odd thing to start posting about on a Disney World board.

Many folks read the boards without joining the conversation.

I did prior to being on the podcast.

I appreciate the fact that ReenyL shared this info.

Welcome to the boards ReenyL.

I'd have thought that continuing a conversation, even if it's a year old, would be better than starting a new thread?

Perhaps, unless it has a direct correlation to something that was an issue on the podcast a little while back?
