Just Off Fantasy Merry Time Cruise....

We just got home from our Merry Time Fantasy cruise. I will do a bit longer report, but I just wanted to comment that the seas were really rough! Our 3rd at sea day (Thanksgiving) was the worst day we have ever had at sea (this was our 10th cruise). An announcement (into the cabins) was made that day at 11:15 pm to not even go on your verandas because a sudden storm had popped up. Our poor DD (9) didn't fair well against that storm. Guest services had to be called for a clean up......

wow
i am sorry to hear this

we are cruising on dec 11th and i hope its calmer seas by then

So sorry to hear that the seas were so rough . Out of curiosity were you on the Eastern or Western Carribbean cruise?

Oh dear... How long did it last?
The sudden storm lasted about an hour.

We had rough seas all that day. Commodore Tom announced earlier in the day that we were experiencing trade winds. During dinner service, numerous servers were dropping items which you usually don't see.

We were on the Eastern Caribbean cruise.
This was our first time on this route. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Please feel free to ask any questions!

I'm surprised, I read (all the time) about how the captain always try to avoid bad weather... I guess it wasn't avoidable?

Is there any way to fin out how the seas are going to be?

Thanks in advance.

When the ship has to come and go into a port there is no way to avoid the rough seas.
The surf as been very high the last few days.
Here is the surf report for today. Just Google the surf report for Cocoa Beach and you can see the seas.

Based on the announcement, the storm came out of no where.
The entire day the crew did a great job keeping everyone informed about the rough seas. The cruise staff kept all the activites/events going on during the at sea day.

We were on the same cruise and currently on the drive home. We are all still rocking! We had an absolute blast too despite the rocky ride. Our son got sick on Thanksgiving day but after some Zofran, Bonine, chicken fingers and a nap he was much better. I would not sail without Zofran and Bonine! This was my third cruise and by far the worst in terms of motion. Even the staff said what we had was rare. Even though it was so bad at times, the line to book a future cruise was always busy!

We were in the Cove when the captain made the announcement to stay inside. We had to be outside for a brief moment to get to the elevators and it was wild... The wind and the lightening was intense and the water from the adult pool was splashing over the side of the pool. There were 20' swells and 65 mph winds. It was an adventure! I'm happy to sleep in a bed that isn't going to rock tonight!

For those of you about to sail, the addition of the holiday decorations and special touches will give you goosebumps! I already miss the smell of the lobby, which smelled like Christmas! The Christmas lights were incredible! This was a great way to sown Thanksgiving week!

Thanks for the review! We loved our April cruise but I have a feeling we'll like this one even better (leaving Monday on the Dream).

I was just thinking about the Christmas smell in the lobby! The decorations were beautiful. The main tree in the atrium was breath taking.

We are in Cocoa Beach today, as we are preparing to sail on Monday and the wind is crazy. The waves breaking in the shore were huge. I can only imagine how it was out on the water. I hope the seas are calmer by Monday!

Me too!

But I remember I felt so dizzy and nauseous on the first evening from PC to Nassau in April. I'm pretty much expecting the same this time so I'll be on Gravol (anti-nausea) anyway. Not taking any chance.

Our first cruise on the Dream back in 2013 was exactly the same. PC to Nassau was rough! I hope you are feeling well otherwise! My energy is still low, probably due to anesthesia. Are you recuperating well from your surgery?

Thanks for asking. :) My energy is coming back. Did not feel the need to sleep in the afternoon for the last two days and 100% off meds. I still have some pain once is a while (ovarian cyst chose to blow up 4 days after the surgery, adding pressure on my scars!) but I had the "ok to travel" from my surgeon on my post-op appointment yesterday. I certainly won't bike, run a marathon or dance but I'll still get to enjoy that cruise!

I was told it takes a while and that we are most likely to experience a little fatigue and pain within the first three weeks. I guess the body burns a lot of energy while trying to heal...

Oh my...
Glad you still had a good time. I'm taking a friend from work who is a cruise newbie on the Dream on the 11th and I'm really praying for good weather. It's only a 3 night cruise but I'd like her 1st experience to be a good one!

I was on this sailing, my third Disney Cruise, and it was definitely the roughest I have experienced. Cruise Director Peter told us that trade winds between late November and January increase the possibility of rough seas. I guess this proved true! That said, no one in my family had any trouble and sharing Thanksgiving there was a fantastic way to escape the real world and enjoy plenty of Disney Christmas Magic!

I learned to appreciate peace and relaxation instead of lots of activity on this cruise as the motion bothered me for the first time. It was good for me as my brain rarely rests at home! Watching the different ways guests of all ages appreciate Disney and cruising reminded me why I love what I do! It was no surprise that at least half of the passengers I saw had Castaway Club lanyards on.

If you're considering a Disney cruise, do it. I've never felt more connected to my family.
