Long story - but a bunch of crap going on with Mom, and we decided we needed to get to Florida to collect her belongings there.

I have a van, and I had this last week free of cake orders, so we made plans and went.

We got up super early Sunday morning - we had planned to cross at the Peace Bridge, but because of all the snow, Mom insisted we go through Windsor/Detroit. I HATE the drive to Windsor - but we went that way anyway, and planned to take I75 down. But the GPS had different plans - took us across Ohio on their Turnpike, and we ended up on the I95 route eventually. Not bad at all!

I drove the entire way there (stopped one night on the way) - to just north of Miami. Hitting Florida and still having 6 more hours to go SUCKS by the way.

Packed up her stuff in a matter of hours, loaded my van full, and began the drive home.

Of course, I HAD to stop in Orlando for a day - we spent a wonderful day at the Magic Kingdom!

Then we drove home on US Thanksgiving day/Black Friday. Seriously the least traffic we saw all week was those two days! We had thought we'd take I75 home, but the GPS brought us up the I95 again, this time the whole route right to Erie and then Buffalo.

Sure was nice to only have 2.5 hours left after we crossed that bridge to Canada!

Made it home by 6pm last night. No trouble at the border with a van full of cardboard boxes & bubble wrap.

I did it!!

I actually didn't mind driving - it made for a much better trip than being the passenger on that drive!

Wow. That's quite the marathon driving trip! Glad the weather, roads, and traffic all combined for a good trip.

If you use your GPS (and it's set to the shortest route), it'll always pick the 95 route, when driving from GTA to Orlando (I-75 is longer so GPS avoids it).

Congrats to you Hon.
I am so happy you were able to have a bit of time at MK to enjoy yourself. The overall experience you shared make me think that someday I may attempt this.
Thanks for sharing
Hugs Mel

I think I have it set to fastest time, but I can't remember....

It was an interesting drive to cross at Windsor and have it take us completely different than we were expecting too. It was driving Mom crazy - when we finally stopped for gas, she had to buy a map so she could see where the heck we were and where we were headed! LOL

It's not so much Windsor, as the long long long drive from getting on the 401 in Guelph all the way there! LOL
I once ended up in the median ditch outside of Tilbury (don't think the ditch exists anymore?) thanks to some black ice and some crosswinds, so I feel your pain. Not my favourite drive, between London and Windsor.

WOW-that is quite the accomplishment and good on you for being such a wonderful daughter to your mother! Not everyone would do this for their parents and I applaude you for it!

Aw thanks. It's a long story, but it involved a verbal abuse situation going on with her husband (my father passed away almost 11 years ago, they've been married 7 now) and we needed to get her things from his place there. We wouldn't have done it, but for a piece of art that my oldest DD painted herself that Mom wanted back - and hey, I got to go to Disney for a day!!
