Universal Orlando Annual Passes

Hi, we're thinking of purchasing annual passes for our upcoming trip to Universal. If we did, we would have then sent to us. I was wondering when the passes would take effect; would it be from the time purchased or from the time activated.

There is NO need to have them mailed to you. Just order them Will Call, get them from a kiosk the day you get there, and you're good to go.

How does this work for free parking? We will have one pass but not the other four when we drive in. Is there any reason to show them our pass since it says you have to pay for parking the first time? (It won't be activated yet).

your AP must be activated at the gate before you are eligible to use it for free garage parking.

you can drop off the person that has the ap to take care of the activation then pick them up and return to the garage.

I am planning on getting an AP. Have booked hard rock with AP discount. If I don't pick up AP at will call how will hotel confirm AP for discount?

At checkin they will tell you when you need to show them the AP. This isn't something to be worried about at all since you'll be getting the AP.

Is there a way to get reimbursed for parking if you don't drop off the person to activate a pass, and instead just pay for the parking until you get it activated? Our situation means it's not going to be easy to just drop someone off to do that.

Sorry but no
No reimbursement for the parking fee

Once the ap is activated, parking free with AP

Anyone have experience with AP discounts? I am thinking of getting one AP for myself, and using it to buy tickets at the gate and to book the Pacific. How big are the discounts?

When is your trip?

AP is good for different amounts on food/merch

I have the preferred level

Check the UO website or the quick access link sticky for discount levels

Hotel discounts vary. They can be from about 20% to 35% depending on season. Buying tickets at the gate isn't much of a discount and sometimes isn't any because when you buy online, you get $20 off the tickets price. When you buy the gate, tickets are $20 higher and then you take your discount off of that. Places such as undercovertourist and mapleleaftickets are generally cheaper than the uni website and the AP discount.

To check AP discounts at the hotels, enter the code APH in the promo box. If an AP discount is available, it will clearly state Annual Pass Discount.

The lowest level of AP (power pass) will have blackout dates. So check you don't go at a time when you would need a more expensive pass.

Buying tickets at the gate with the AP discount might not be the easiest way to do it when you first have to redeem your AP voucher, activate it, then buy additional tickets for your party. Lots of time lost, and it won't even be cost efficient compared to purchasing discounted tickets in advance, like Damo mentionned.

AP discount for hotel rooms will only be available a few months out. But you can book a seasonnal rate and then have your rate adjusted if an APH rate is released. You can wait until you find an APH rate for your dates before ordering an AP. you don't need to be a passholder to book an APH rate, you only need to show an active AP at front desk during your stay.
So you could just wait until you see if you find an APH rate before deciding between AP and regular tickets.

Sometimes the APH rate will only be available on premium rooms (views, club and suites) so the AP will not save you money, but will allow you to book a water view for slightly less than a standard (for example). But you might not save money, only get more bang for your dollar
Sometimes APH will be available for standard rooms too. But there is no way to tell in advance, and there are no general case.

If you're staying for just a day or 2, then an APH rate could work for you. If you stay longer, the Stay More Save More rate will kick in, and is often cheaper (for longer stays) than APH.
If you consider the higher cost of the AP, you might not come ahead or even break even. And if you don't plan on another visit before the expiration of your AP (1 year from activation) it may not save you money at all.

You will need to crunch the numbers and decide what's best for you

Thanks so much! I booked Pacific at $300/night for two nights in November, so there is no AP rate yet. I had some similar ideas about the ticket issue when I realized I couldn't pay for my AP and their tickets in one transaction. But a 25% room discount would get me $150, if I can use it on a standard room, which would pay for the upgrade. Then the 10% off at restaurant and on merch will save me another $30-40, I estimate, depending on how crazy my kids goat Ollivander's. Besides my assumption that there is no discount on alcohol, anything else I need to know about the merch and food discounts? I know there is no discount at little food wagons.

Well, they have the percentages on the website, but if you want more of an specific example, I recently booked the HHR for $204 not included tax using the annual pass code and just looked at the price it would be for anyone else on the same day and it shows as $314. So, that gives you idea of how much you're saving.

As for discounts all around, it all varies depending on what restaurant, or shop you're at, but once you have your annual pass you have access to looking at all your discounts and benefits more specifically and closely by logging onto the website as one. I typically do not worry about it (meaning I do not go to a specific restaurant, or shop because it gives me more of a discount), a discount is a discount in my book. However, according to the website you do not get discounts on cart vendors, just wanted to warn you.

Also, just so you know @kohlby (or anyone else who wants to know more about free parking) make sure to have your ID, as well as your pass out in order to get free parking. Unfortunately, as everyone else has already said, you have to pay the first time and you can't get your money back. However, every time after your first visit is free. Having your ID and pass out saves you time, as they do not have to ask you for it. Also, if you want to save yourself even more time, as you hand your ID and pass, say, "I want regular parking." As they always ask if you want preferred parking. Preferred parking is discounted, but if you want free, general is what you want.

Disxuni, you need to stop circumventing ways against UO policy.
AP's are not to be shared.

If you are paying for all in your group such as food, then you can use your ap for the discount.
But sharing is not allowed.
You can not pass your AP to others to use.

Heard of others using it, but never done it myself. I deeply apologize for making the suggestion.

Edit: While you quoted me, I deleted it in my original comment that way if anyone comes across it first they do not see the suggestion.

Since you deleted that portion, i will not issue any warning or points.
There is a section on the main forum (and each forum) of the Dis boards that explains the rules.
It will list what is not allowed and also lists the points system and consequences for the amount of points a person receives.

I know there are many posters that have not read the dis rules for posting so I assume you were not aware of it.

No problem, all is fine now.
