Hi all, looking for advice. My left ankle has been hurting me off and on for the past week. I don't recall doing anything to make it hurt. When it first came on, I couldn't even walk on it, the pain was so bad. I had even wrapped it with an ace bandage and tied my tennis shoes really tight. The next day, I wore my crocs flip flops all day and it didn't really hurt at all (I was on my feet all day). I wore boots and work shoes to work the next week and limped off and on. It will be another crocs day today, despite the rain.

I have no idea what I did. I've twisted my ankle before, but I don't think it felt like this. It's off and on, not constant, so it couldn't be a stress fracture, right? I'm confuzzled.

I guess it's not really the ankle, more like right below the ankle bone on the outside of my left foot...

thanks!

I had pain in my ankle last year amd never remembered hurting myself. It turned out that I had a blood clot in my leg. Something for you to consider.

This started happening to me right before we left for WDW in October. Let me tell you after 7 days in WDW, it was AWFUL when I got home. They did x-rays, and found nothing. I kept it wrapped for several weeks which got rid of the swelling, but it still hurts now off and on.

My DH has this. It's on the inside of his foot in the middle on the side. Sometimes there is a bump there but usually it just hurts. It comes and goes ... as soon as he decides to go to the doctor it goes away.

No idea!!!

cryssi, would you mind going to the doctor and getting it checked then come back here and post what's wrong with it?

Mine is hurting and swollen too. :rolleyes1

It does sound like tendonitis. It can develop over time due to the way you walk or even a pair of shoes that have worn unevenly. Any type of uneven pressure can put stress on your tendon and cause an irritation. It can take months to heal if you reduce the stress. It will most likely bother you off and on depending on how much walking (stress) you put on it. Alternating heat and cold sometimes helps as does staying off your feet.

I've had it for about a year. Mine started when I tripped over the dog's bone. If I manage to stay off my feet (not often), it seems to clear up. As soon as I start doing a lot of walking, it starts hurting again. The doctor didn't have any good answers.

thanks, all. I may try to go to the doctor this week. Of course, the last time I went to the doctor for something that was hurting (my head), I ended up having surgery! lol

I think it very well could be tendonitis. A couple of weeks ago I walked about 10 miles...?? Could it take a week to manifest?

I've had tendonitis in my wrist before. It cleared up and I don't have pain anymore, even though I still do computer work...I don't wear a brace. When I went to the doctor for that, they gave me some 600mg ibuprofin and told me to go get a brace...

btw, my ankle/foot is not swollen at all...

anyhoo, I've found that hot baths are nice, as are cold compresses (well, putting my cold toes on the spot makes it feel good, lol) so I will try ice/hot and see...

 definitely something to consider!

I get those--they are knots and for me they are able to be massaged out. I don't quite have plantar fascitis..but I'm close to it. I get the knots after running. Spoke with a podiatrist at a running clinic and he just said continue what I was doing.

They do hurt to the touch--very similar when I get knots in my shoulders--but when I work them out.....RELIEF!!!

In the land of running--we are advised..if something hurts---rest for 3 days. Resume activity...if it hurts again...rest for 3 more days. Resume activity...if it hurts again..get thee to a doctor b/c something is wrong.

I had the same experience in my right foot but it was in my instep and the left side of my foot. Hurt beyond belief. I was on a business trip to Toronto at the time and didn't slip or fall prior to the pain.

Turns out I have gout.

You really ought to get it checked.

maybe you're having sympathy pains for me, i just fell and twisted my ankle this morning. ok.....sorry that was lame.

anyway......i get pain like that in my wrist sometimes. i don't know if it would be the same thing tho. i have tendonitis in my wrist and the pain is pretty bad sometimes. sometimes it's so bad i can't even move my wrist. i can't open doors or hold the simplest things like a t-shirt.

i would suggest you go to your doctor tho. they would know more than anything. it might be a cyst too.

good luck.

Same thing happened to me. When I had my first gout attack, I swore my ankle was broken. Gout is extremely painful.

another Black Friday Zombie? new poster, first post, and you chose an 8 year old thread to respond on? lol..welcome to the DIS!

That sounds like posterial tibial tendonitis. I get that occasionally (like if exercise without my orthotics or walk around too much in a shoe with no arch support).

I like a good zombie thread. I *might* have read every page of that cell phone bill thread.

But this is really starting to get old. It's making this site look very dated, like there's nothing else to talk about so the old stuff needs to be dredged up.

Look up sinus tarsi. It is a pinched nerve on the upper part of the foot.

Unfortunately, I have this. It causes pain on the outer side of the foot just below the ankle. It doesn't hurt until I stand and try to walk. Rotating the ankle usually makes it better. My podiatrist has been giving me cortisone injections and I wear a brace. It is slowly improving.

I might not have also. :rolleyes1 But I've said it before...the CB is nowhere near as interesting as it used to be, despite my best efforts to stimulate evocative discussions (trying to get a good "should guests bring food to a party" debate going on another thread right now!). I hope it goes better than my roux v.s. slurry attempt. :lmao:
