The refillable soda mug program. You would buy a mug and then have complimentary refills.

We were on the maiden voyage of the Magic in 1998 so have seen MANY things come and go. On the first several cruises of the Magic they had the mini bars filled with candy bars and cans of sods with a KTTW swipe to pay for them. Apparently too many kids were racking up huge mini bar bills and they eventually took out all the goodies.

Aww, that mug picture was taken on the day I gave birth to my son! Sorry, carry on....

I don't miss Topsiders but I do miss the Chihuly!

I feel the opposite. I miss Topsiders (I don't really like Cabanas) and I'm so glad to see the back of the Chihuly. It's not really Art Deco style and I never felt that it fit (though I don't particularly like the replacement even though I think that it's slightly better - they just seem bland and undersized).

Do they not have trays on the Magic now? On the Fantasy, Dream, and Wonder in the last year we've had trays.

Nope. I found it really annoying this summer. You have to manhandle your plate, put it on the table, go get a drink (and you and your dining companions have to stagger your trips so that your plate doesn't get taken in the mistaken assumption that you're finished), then go get some fruit, etc. It's really inconvenient. I don't see why they can't just give you a tray to be more efficient and do one trip.

No trays? We just got off the Wonder last week on our first cruise, I can't imagine trying to do the buffet with our kids with no tray?! Glad they had them for now still!

I miss the individual mugs also. We liked to collect them, as reminders of places we've been, not juse DCL bUT the parks also. Like collecting the individual ship models it's nice to have a complete collection.

Ship specific merchandise and resonable priced DCL polos. The ones ive seen recently are in the 70s and 80s. The polos they have now are name brand with a small DCL logo. They used to have a white one with nautical flags on the collar and a DCL patch on the front chest. The other version was blue with DCL on the sleeve and the DCL logo on the chest. Now just about everything is standard DCL or parks.

It also shows something else that is no longer seen on DCL: the comforter!

But that gift looks amazing, so much stuff!

What was Mickey's Island Jam? Sounds fun!
Well it was basically a character breakfast. But, instead of the characters coming around to the tables individually, they did a show. They would invite people up to go under the limbo stick, and parade around the dining room. Sort of like Pirate night, but in tropical dress. I can only recall having it on one cruise - our Panama Canal cruise. Maybe something they only bring out for special cruises? :confused3

I think your dates may be off?
I thought Cove Cafe was post 2003 dry dock when it changes from the teen hangout to Cove Cafe?

You're correct - it was in 2009. Really good quality and can't understand why they don't still offer them.

My first cruise wasn't until January 2003 on the Magic, so I was extremely disappointed that Off Beat had changed format to a Dueling Pianos bar and no longer had improv comedy. I also miss having a pub master in Diversions with the port vs. starboard trivia competitions and "Ring the Bull".

I guess they were too high quality to justify the price they want or could charge?

One of the main reasons is price point. Several years ago Disney as a whole looked at ways to cut costs. One of the ways they did this was to make as much as they can similar. I'll use french fries as an example. With probably close to 100 if not more restaurants between the ships and the Florida parks, that use fries, and most using different types or brands it would cost on average say 10 dollars a box. By making do there are say 10 different types Disney purchasing can get a bulk deal and pay say 7 dollars a box. They save thousands if not more per.year just on the fries. Same thing with the mugs. There would be say for arguments sake there are 8 for the cruise line, 4 for the parks and 20 for the resorts in Florida. It may cost say 10 per mug. By making them all the same, just generic DCL or parks and the price comes back down to 6 dollars. It all about the money.
