I'm sure it's a great parade. Too bad we're missing it.

Gawwwd when are these stooges going to shut up? We've had about a minute and a half of bands, none of which we actually heard because they're yapping.

The Macy's thanksgiving day has been yap fest!!! hurrah!!!

This thing gets more pathetic each year.

I'll have to go to New York one of these years so I can actually see it.

I'm pretty sure Detroit's in nationally televised (America's parade) DD is marching in it this year. They do yap a lot and I haven't watched Macy's this year so I can't compare, but it's usually a pretty good show.

I'm sure that band that just went by sounded great. But I'll have to take their word on it because they were yapping over it.

DDs band just went past - well actually I was out walking the dog, I'm glad I had it paused. I only saw a very short glimpse of her because they mostly showed the front of the band and not much of the low brass section.

They got yapped over a bit - but they did indeed sound great.

I'm enjoying it. Don't mind the constant yapping from the hosts. But some of the lip-syncing is pretty bad.

Nothing but commercials and awful lip-syncing. Bring on the football already.

I hate what they have done to the parades. We are watching the Philadelphia Parade on tv.

The best is the Rose Parade on HGTV on New Years Day. They actually let you hear the bands.
I was about to mention HGTV and how good they are. I wish that they showed the Macy's parade too.

After the first hour, there was more of the parade and a bit less talking ie interviews)and the musical acts were on the actual floats.

I will admit that I watch it more for the Broadway acts despite the bad lip synching.

I like watching the Broadway performers, but I enjoy it more when you get to the floats and the marching bands.

I told DH I would love to go to NYC one Thanksgiving to see it, and he told me no way was he sitting his butt out in the freezing cold for hours on end to watch some balloons (he's from NY, saw the parade live as a kid, and never wants to do it again.) He told me I could book a hotel room that overlooked the parade route, and we could sit and watch it while eating room service. I had a look at prices and I really think he might regret that suggestion!

I only ever really watch the first hour as that's when most of the Broadway shows perform. The rest of the parade is usually just background noise here. :-/

The Broadway shows perform because the parade doesn't even reach Macy's until a good hour after it starts. They have to fill all that dead air time with something.

I watched live for the first time this year and it was a lovely experience but if my future sister in law ever moves I would not camp on the street. On her block it was easily 20 rows deep and we needed a police escort an hour before the parade started just to get through the crowds to her house!

We saw it last year, and when you think you have a decent spot, 20 rows deep, you have people constantly walking thru, thinking they can stand with you. We backed out about halfway thru and walked up I think 53rd and watched from a distance.

And last year we recorded the parade, and NYC has their local stations do the parade and their announcers are 100 times better. You get to see the whole parade.

Same here. I pay close attention to the first hour, then I start doing other things while the rest of the parade is on, watching for a minute or two every 10 to 15 minutes. I liked the excerpts from every show they did today, plus the Rockettes.

I suppose NBC could cut the broadcast down to two hours, starting when the parade reaches Macy's. But then I might not watch at all.

This is almost as bad as the televised Disney Christmas Parade for yapping and how little of the parade you actually see.

Every year I watch specifically to see the Radio City Rockettes. The rest of the parade/Broadway show scenes is fine, but pretty much in the background while we're preparing the meal. All together I probably see perhaps 45 minutes of it. I like the Hello Kitty in the airplane balloon and the big Tom Turkey near the beginning of the parade. I suppose they show the turkey early to get it out of the way. After all, it IS the Macy's THANKSGIVING Day parade, so it's obligatory. But they have to have plenty of time for CHRISTMAS floats.

By the way, those giant Pilgrim heads who accompany the Turkey have the most severe b---- faces. They're not very thrilled about being usurped either. ;)
