~~ They're leaving the nest, sew it's time for a trip - or two - or three...~~ D~'s bag ~9/22 ~~

Good luck tomorrow at your race.
I made my first Thanksgiving dish this morning - fresh cranberry sauce.
That's one of the 3 thing I made for thanksgiving so far. I did a paleo/ real food version. The little bits I tasted after I put it in a container last night was really yummy.
I also made a cucumber yogurt dip for a starter.

Last night for dinner since both DH and S have a cold/sinus thing, i decided to make them chicken soup. I made a huge pot, so after we had some last night, I decided to just add some more water and boil it again to save for thursday.
Dh is working from home today so he is off to the store for the last minute stuff we need.

I've fallen behind on your PTR - are you doing a TR for this last trip?

I'm just doing it in the same thread. No worries on falling behind, I haven't posted anything really since I've been back. I need to get on that this weekend.

Good luck on your run tomorrow! You'll do great, I'm sure of it. :) I can't wait to see pics of your costume. And have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Have a marvelous race, and a fabulous Thanksgiving. We will be headed to the beach tonight for our Thanksgiving weekend. :-)

How awesome that your cousin gave you the china (it is beautiful!) and nativity set of your Grandmothers! I had a nice surprise like that a couple months ago, my grandmother was a quilter and she made her brother and sister-in-law a quilt for their wedding probably 50 years ago and their daughter was going thru their things since they have both passed and found the quilt my grandmother had made for them. She passed it on to me, needless to say I was thrilled also :) I will try to attach a photo:

Good Luck with your Thanksgiving Run and I hope you and everyone else here on the Dis has a Wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

I hope you get a lot accomplished today.

Today I was at my therapy horse back riding class. In the riding hall where we have the classes the stable cat and a magpie had strayed in. The cat is often in the riding hall without any problems. But today the magpie that is not supposed to be in the riding hall was there and teased the cat. So both the bird and cat was jumping around with the result that my horse (which is normally a calm and kind horse) got scared and jumped/tried to run. I'm not quite shore what happened because it happened so fast and all I could think about was trying to stop the horse. Luckily I didn't fall off which surprised me a lot. Since I fell of a horse 3 or 4 times as a little girl when I took riding classes. But I got scared and for the rest of the class I couldn't stop thinking that this would happen again. We got the cat out of the riding hall and then the bird also went out of the riding hall without help. That way we eliminated the possibility that the bird and the cat would scare the horse again.

When I got home I found a letter from NAV. It was a thick letter, so I didn't know what to think. I opened the letter and found out that they had granted me the car without the 4WD we agreed on and I also got a list of all the aids I will need in the car (like the lift for the wheelchair, things in the floor to secure the wheelchair and so on) and I noticed that there were some errors on the list. I will have to call them tomorrow and ask about it and find out how we are going to correct the errors they've made.

I am sure your Dad understands. Like you said, you are only one person! I understand him being sad, but sometimes that is just the way things go. I am sure he will still have a nice Thanksgiving.

Boy, everything you are doing for Thanksgiving makes ME tired! I don't have to do anything. My family hasn't gotten together since my nephew died 7 years ago (he died the week of Thanksgiving so it is a hard time for my family). My DH and DD go to his family's house for Thanksgiving. I have nothing to do with his side of the family. They treated me like trash for 27 years until I finally said I wasn't going to put myself through that anymore and I cut all ties with them over 4 years ago. :dogdance:(BEST thing I've ever done!) I send my DH so he can still have time with them, but I stay home and have a bologna sandwich and I couldn't be happier!

Good luck getting everything done that you need to!

Wow you do sound busy, but in a good way!:thumbsup2 Thanksgiving is being hosted at my house tomorrow as well, so all that last minute, night before prep is happening here too lol.
Tomorrow morning - I have my Thanksgiving Day race... I am looking forward/not looking forward to that. I hope I can do it. I worked out a little too hard on Monday when doing my HIIT session - and my left glut muscle is a bit sore still - I hope it's better by tomorrow. If not, I'll just push through - I know it's DOMS and not an injury. ::yes::
Best of luck in the race tomorrow - I bet you will be fine.
Soooo.... I hope all of you have a marvelous Thanksgiving, and you are able to spend it with family and friends. Oh - and don't be surprised if I do a TR update tomorrow - I will have time in the morning. :thumbsup2 So, if you are bored.... LOL
I'll be there!:goodvibes

D, I hope you and your family have a wonderful and very happy Thanksgiving!:lovestruc

I hope you have a great race, in spite of the inconvenience. I ran a 5K on Thanksgiving once. It worked out okay as far as the timing for dinner, since we had dinner at 4pm. But after that I found a turkey trot 5K that was held on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. DH did not like me going to a race on Thanksgiving morning.

I made my first Thanksgiving dish this morning - fresh cranberry sauce. I love it but most people skip it. I am also going to try a dairy-free, gluten-free pumpkin pie for the food allergy people.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks Sue! I've really been looking forward to this race. I am not sure that I will be able to be as dedicated of a runner as I have been this summer/fall, throughout the winter - as I am finding it so hard now, and we don't even have snow yet... They days are just SO short - and it's hard to find the time when there's daylight. I"ll do the best I can, and hopefully I'll be able to stick with it enough to work on my next goal... I am really wanting a half marathon sometime in the next year +.

But I agree - doing it on Thanksgiving morning is a little odd and slightly inconvenient... I did the 2K a few years ago - and it was just super fun and really helped "ground" my thankfulness that year. I didn't do it last year, and I wish I had. So, this year, I am doing the 8k (not sure why it's an 8k and not a 10k?). I figure, it's an hour + out of my day, it will be OK. Besides, Josh does most of the work on Thanksgiving, so I don't have much else to do. LOL

I love fresh cranberries... Josh makes an awesome family recipe every year... And every year - I tell him to do a double batch from the year before... I think he is up to making it a 6x batch. LOL - we all love it so much, and it's so refreshing! I grew up on canned cranberries for holidays - I'd never had the "real" thing until Josh's family made them, so I am a definite convert now. :D I hope you were able to get all of your other dishes done yesterday too. ::yes::

A very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Sue!!!

Good luck tomorrow at your race.

That's one of the 3 thing I made for thanksgiving so far. I did a paleo/ real food version. The little bits I tasted after I put it in a container last night was really yummy.

Dh is working from home today so he is off to the store for the last minute stuff we need.

Thank you!!! I am up early, and the coffee drinking has commensed. LOL

We did a "mostly Primal" friendly Thanksgiving last year - and it was amazing. What wasn't Primal, was "real food" - and I've never had a better, guilt free holiday in my life. We did the same for Christmas and Easter -and I doubt I'll ever go back. The food for those holidays was literally the best tasting food I've ever had. It's a little more work - but very gratifying.

Mmmmm... That dip sounds delicous. I did a garlic dip.... Garlic, sour cream and a bit of home made mayo... I've never done this dip with home made mayo before - so hopefully it tastes good? I am sure it will, everything home made tastes better. :thumbsup2

Awesome about the soup - bummer that the family isn't feeling well. I hope they are better today. ::yes::

WTG DH for braving the stores yesterday - I had to brave Walmart, it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected it to be - but I was happy to be out of there fast... Especially since I did it in my Target clothes. LOL But my Target is not a Super Target, so we just don't carry all of the items a person needs.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I'm just doing it in the same thread. No worries on falling behind, I haven't posted anything really since I've been back. I need to get on that this weekend.

Good luck on your run tomorrow! You'll do great, I'm sure of it. I can't wait to see pics of your costume. And have a Happy Thanksgiving!

OK - good - I will try to stop by later today... Doing a PTR and a TR is sooo time consuming... Which is why I am frantically trying to finish up the TR asap. ::yes::

Thank you! I am a bit nervous - but I know I can do it... I've done more - not by much - but I have. I know I'll finish and I am hoping to not be last.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving too!

What a crazy few days for you! Good luck at your race and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving as well!

Yes - it's always a crazy few days here, it seems. LOL Life wouldn't be nearly as fun if it was boring all the time. LOL :thumbsup2

Thank you! I am a little nervous - but I know I will finish and I am hoping to not be last this time.

Thank you - Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, as well.

Have a marvelous race, and a fabulous Thanksgiving. We will be headed to the beach tonight for our Thanksgiving weekend. :-)

Thank you!!!! You too Oopsi!!!! I hope you and your family have a marvelous Thanksgiving! Enjoy your time at the beach! And safe travels!

Oh wow Monica!!!! What a beautiful, beautiful quilt!!!! What a wonderful treasure to have! Thank you for sharing it with us!

Thank you... Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving, as well!

I hope you get a lot accomplished today.

Oh no!!! YOu were so lucky to not be thrown or injured! Glad they were able to get the cat and the bird out of the arena... I'd be a little nervous about riding after that too.

I hope you are able to get everything sorted out with your car soon. Best of luck!

I am sure your Dad understands. Like you said, you are only one person! I understand him being sad, but sometimes that is just the way things go. I am sure he will still have a nice Thanksgiving.

I hope he does - I think he does - but I understand that he is sad about it too... I wish I could do more for him, but logistically - it's just almost impossible. I am glad he will, at least, be with my brother and his family - I feel a little less guilty for not being with him then.

Hahaha... Yah - it's a lot of work, but I love it... And I always make way too much food - but it's tradition - and I love THanksgiving leftovers. ::yes::

Good for you for standing up for yourself and doing what is in your best interest. It's not always easy - but you deserve better than what they were treating you. And good for your for still allowing your DH to be with his family - without gult... That can't be easy either, but you are the bigger person for that, and I admire you for it.

I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving... I wish you lived close enough to come to our house - we always have pleanty.

Wow you do sound busy, but in a good way! Thanksgiving is being hosted at my house tomorrow as well, so all that last minute, night before prep is happening here too lol.

Yes- I think I thrive on being busy, LOL. I am not sure what i would do if I was bored all the time? I'd hate to find out. LOL

Thanks - I am a little nervous - but I know I will finish and I am hoping to not finish last. ::yes::

Thank you Alison - I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving, as well.

***************************************************************************************************

Yesterday - was crazy... I feel like I start every post this way? LOL

I was at Target by 7:30am... My day went fast, and I ran out the door at 11:30am... I had so much to do, and very little time to do it.

First I went to the liquor store to get beer for Josh/beer bread. Then I had to hit Walmart (in my Target clothes - which I hate doing - everyone stares...) to grab a few things that the grocery store doesn't carry/is too expensive there.

I was home by 12:30... I quickly warmed up some leftovers for lunch, and while I was doing that, I mixed up the rest of the beer bread batter, and started peeling potatoes.

At 1:15, I was headed to the butcher to pick up my slicing order and our hard rolls...

Back home to finish the potatoes for make-ahead mashed potatoes...

And peeling sweet potatoes for the sweet potato caserole.

These items take so long to make, because I always do a double batch of the mashed potatoes - we usually obliterate the first batch at the first meal, then there is nothing left for leftovers... So, I do the second batch for leftovers. It works out well.

I finished cleaning up the kitchen just as Josh was walking in from work - which was my goal. Then he had the kitchen for the remainder of the night to make pies.

As it turns out - he never did make the pies. Grrrr... So, I have no idea if we are going to have pie? Even though I went out of my way yesterday to get all of his supplies. Sigh. Whatever.

Gus is here, as in, not at school, for the weekend. He will be having a Thanksgiving dinner here, I believe he is also having Thanksgiving with his family, as well?

This morning - I am up early for my race. I was able to get my "Gobble til You Wobble" put in the back of my shirt last night... And my Flat D~ is ready to go... It's 25° here this morning... I hope I don't freeze. As of yesterday, none of my family was coming with to watch me race - which is fine with me.... But then Allison and Gus said they would come. We'll see if they actually do? It's pretty early in the morning. It would be nice, then I could wear a coat over my running stuff - and they could hold it for me, and my race tee shirt while I am running. Otherwise - I will have to make a trip back to my car. :scratchin I've never thought of the logistics of running before - but you really can't carry something with you. LOL

I'll come home and hopefully relax for a little while. I like to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

We will have dinner this evening - probably around 4pm? Maybe play a couple of board games or something?

Then it's to bed early - as the girls and I are planning to go out Black Friday shopping... We plan to leave early in the morning - maybe between 3 and 4am? Not sure what we are shopping for? But we had so much fun last year - we wanted to do it again this year. ::yes::

***************************************************************************************************

I also wanted to take a moment this morning, to be thankful on Thanksgiving for my friendships here... I've been writing various forms of Trip Reports on The Dis for almost 5 years now... The friendships I have formed here are some of the best and most rewarding friendships in my life... I love that all of you enjoy reading about our trips and our trip planning - it really heightens the experience for me. I am so very thankful for each and every one of you! :grouphug:

I wish you all a safe and blessed Thanksgiving, I hope that you are surrounded by family and friends on this day. And if you are traveling - please have safe travels. :grouphug: Happy Thanksgiving!

Well said, and very meaningful for today. I'm still pretty new around here and I continue to be amazed by your thoughtfulness and generousness of spirit. Have a beautiful Turkey Day! You deserve it!

What a shame that Josh didn't make the pies.
How great that Gus will celebrate Thanksgiving with your family.
Good luck with the race. I hope Alli and Gus comes to watch so the logistics for your run gets easier.
Black Friday shopping sounds like fun. You have way better deals than what the stores here have on Black Friday. I hope you have a great time and that you find some good stuff.
I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.

I called the lady about my new car today and asked about the errors that was done in the letter I got. I was afraid that she would say that I would have to write an complaint and ask them to fix the errors that was made. I was nervous when I called her. It turned out that there was nothing to be worried about. She was nice on the phone and said that she would fix the errors right away. I hope she does it correct this time so I don't have to call again about the same errors. It now looks like my order for the car is going to Germany before Christmas :woohoo: Hopefully I will have my new car in the driveway when summer comes :)

Just a super quick update from my run this morning, for those of you who are interested in my races...

2015-11-26_10.59.01_1.jpg

It was 37 deg when I left the house this morning... When Allison and I got to the starting line, it started to drizzle/rain... We took cover under an awning, in an effrt to stay warm and dry.

I did the first mile with a malfunctioning Garmin... Finally at the end of the first mile, I was able to get it working...

The first half of the run was done in the rain, the last half, i was being pelted with ice pellets. I know the last 1.5 miles was at a 12:5 pace... But according to my Garmin, i finished with an average pace of 15:2. :/ Not great for me, I was hoping for better... In all fairness, the first half of the race was mostly up hill...

Overall, a great race, and I didn't finish last... Even if I did most of the race among a sea of walkers.

Anyways... Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

D~

Your outfit looks great. I love the Gobble til you wobble on your back. How great that Alli came with you to watch.

I hope he does - I think he does - but I understand that he is sad about it too... I wish I could do more for him, but logistically - it's just almost impossible. I am glad he will, at least, be with my brother and his family - I feel a little less guilty for not being with him then.

I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving... I wish you lived close enough to come to our house - we always have pleanty.

I missed somewhere that your Dad will get to be with your brother. I am very happy to hear that. If not you, then that's the next best thing! :)

You are a sweetheart. I wish we lived close too. I would LOVE that! Oh well, eat an extra bite of mashed potatoes for me - okay?

I love fresh cranberries... Josh makes an awesome family recipe every year... And every year - I tell him to do a double batch from the year before... I think he is up to making it a 6x batch. I only eat them with turkey. I need to find more recipes for fresh cranberries.

These items take so long to make, because I always do a double batch of the mashed potatoes - we usually obliterate the first batch at the first meal, then there is nothing left for leftovers... So, I do the second batch for leftovers. It works out well.
I served" bake ahead" mashed potatoes once. I loved them and it was so nice not to have to mash potatoes at the same time as trying to make gravy and handle all the other dishes. Unfortunately, my family didn't like them. They wanted the real deal.

As it turns out - he never did make the pies. Grrrr... So, I have no idea if we are going to have pie? Even though I went out of my way yesterday to get all of his supplies. Sigh. Whatever.
Oh, dear. I would be upset at that.

I also wanted to take a moment this morning, to be thankful on Thanksgiving for my friendships here...
I enjoy my "friends" on the Dis, too. :)

Just a super quick update from my run this morning, for those of you who are interested in my races...
You looked adorable. I'm sorry to hear about the rain and cold. But at least you ran the race. :)

I find it hard to get out early and run with the dark mornings. So right now I mostly take long walks at lunchtime. It fits my schedule better and I'm a fast walker, so it is good enough for me.

Have a happy Thanksgiving and have fun at the race.
Liz

Thank you Liz - the same to you. I hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful!

Well said, and very meaningful for today. I'm still pretty new around here and I continue to be amazed by your thoughtfulness and generousness of spirit. Have a beautiful Turkey Day! You deserve it!

Thank you! I love all of the friendships I have made here - old and new alike... It's been a very fulfilling part of my life in recent years. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, as well.

Josh did make the pies on Thanksgiving morning - and we were not disappointed, they were delicious!

Yes - Gus was here for a little while... He had dinner with his family and then he came here just in time for dessert, a game of Scrabble and a few games of Farkel. It was a great night with all of my "kids" at the table.

Thank you very much! The same to you - even though I know it's not something you celebrate in Norway. :lovestruc

I am glad that the errors were an easy fix, I hope they stay fixed now. But how exciting that you will have a new car very soon!

Your outfit looks great. I love the Gobble til you wobble on your back. How great that Alli came with you to watch.

Thank you!!! It was a lot of fun to make and pretty easy to wear.

I missed somewhere that your Dad will get to be with your brother. I am very happy to hear that. If not you, then that's the next best thing!

You are a sweetheart. I wish we lived close too. I would LOVE that! Oh well, eat an extra bite of mashed potatoes for me - okay?

Yes, he wasn't totally alone on Thanksgiving - which makes me feel better for sure. He was with family... I just still feel like I am disappointing him though.

Oh, I definitely did!!! I ate way too much! Today it's back to working out and taking care of myself! ::yes::

I only eat them with turkey. I need to find more recipes for fresh cranberries.

I served" bake ahead" mashed potatoes once. I loved them and it was so nice not to have to mash potatoes at the same time as trying to make gravy and handle all the other dishes. Unfortunately, my family didn't like them. They wanted the real deal.

I love cranberries too! But you are right - we only ever eat them at Thanksgiving.

Hmmmm.... I make mine out of real potatoes and hand mash them... My family and everyone I've given out the recipe to has adored them... Our recipes must be different. I make these for all holidays and sometime in between, if I have the time to do them. ::yes::

He did make pies - thankfully - it was the next morning... I came home from the race and he was knee-deep in pie making. I was a happy girl!

Thank you - it was difficult due to the weather - but not awful... I've ran in heavier rain, at least I didn't have to slosh through puddles - that part isn't very enjoyable when it happens.

Yes - I believe a person has to make it work for them, regardless of the activity. I am pretty sure I will be backing off of running for the winter - I will still run when I can, but not as often or as strictly... I'll pick it back up in the spring, which will likely set me back? :scratchin But I am just making myself feel awful for having all of these expectations that I can't live up to.

******************************************************************************************************

Sorry I did not check in at all yesterday... It was an odd sort of day for me...

First off - our Thanksgiving was wonderful - it was just us and it was nice. Gus arrived right as we were cleaning up dinner, so he helped clean up and we all played Scrabble and a few games of Farkel. It was fun! Then we had pie...

I came home from my race, and Josh was knee-deep in pie making, so I was a happy girl!!! The pie turned out amazing! It wasn't until yesterday that I realized we forgot to make stuffing. Oh well. I knew something was missing - I just couldn't figure it out.

Over all - it was a great Thanksgiving! I was very happy to have all of my family here.

Gus left early so the girls and I could go to bed.

We woke at 2am yesterday and we were out the door at 3am... We decided to drive up to the East metro to shop - which is about an hours drive for us... When we got there, we discovered that ALL of the stores were closed (except for Walmart/Target/Cabelas) - it was very annoying. Kudos to them for going against the stream of most every store out there and staying closed for Thanksgiving though. So, we decided to drive another 30 minutes to the outlet mall... By the time we got there it was 4:30am... And already it was starting to get busy... We hit a few stores... We found a few gifts and a few things for ourselves... Overall - I was able to stick to my budget, which was nice. And I did find a few things for Josh too - which is even better - sometimes he is very hard to shop for.

After the outlet mall, we were going to go to Ulta - but we decided we weren't going to buy anything there anyways, so we skipped it and went to Target. I was super excited to find the black skirt (like my gray one that I love) on clearance in my size - so I snatched that up. Also a couple of longer tee shirt to wear over my leggings - which have become a staple in my life since I've been home from my trip... I fell in love with them in Disney!

We were home by 8am... I went back to bed until noon.

Then V and I had to run an errand in town again... So we did that quickly and came home to watch The Santa Clause - one of our holiday favorites! We are now officially in the "holiday mood". ::yes::

I hung out last night - alternating time on my tablet, reading and napping.

Overall - it was a wonderful Thanksgiving and a great Black Friday! ::yes::

Today - it's back to reality for me... even though I usually take Saturdays off from working out... I took off Wednesday due to working early and I took off yesterday because of waking up so early for BF... So, I will be working out today and back to being cautious about what I eat/eating clean/and working out. I've been in a funk since coming home and I really need to obliterate it asap!

I am not sure what else we will be doing? I need to make a trip up to my Dad's - I was hoping to this weekend, but I am not sure if that will happen. Traffic will be a mess... We'll see...

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!! Prayers and good thoughts go out to all of you!

Sounds like you had a great Thanksgiving. Bummer that the stores at East metro was closed. Sounds like you still had a good Black Friday.

Here they've had bad Black Friday deals all week. I say bad because the deals that they had was not great deals. You really had to know what the prices normally are to know what was an ok deal and what wasn't. I found one good deal. It was crampons on 53% off. So I went to the mall. It was crazy with a lot of cars and inside there were a lot of people. I went to the store just to find out that they didn't have the crampons I wanted. They said they had them last year, but they hadn't had them at all this year. Well I told them that I just have to buy them from the Internet then. So I went back home and bought the crampons on the stores Internet shop.

In Norway they complain that people don't shop in the stores anymore because they buy stuff on the Internet. Well you have to buy stuff on the Internet because the stores doesn't have that great selection of stuff. And it goes much faster to order stuff online than to ask the store to order it for you. And some stores even say they can't order stuff for you. So it's no wonder people buy most things online now a days.

Hmmmm.... I make mine out of real potatoes and hand mash them... My family and everyone I've given out the recipe to has adored them... Our recipes must be different. I make these for all holidays and sometime in between, if I have the time to do them.
I guess I said it wrong - sorry to confuse you. The baked ahead mashed potatoes that I made that one time were made from real potatoes that I mashed by hand. They also had cream cheese in them, which might be what my family didn't like. They prefer the mashed potatoes that I make fresh, just minutes before serving dinner. But I gave up trying to find a "bake ahead" version that they would like. Maybe a better recipe would work.

I'm glad you found so many good bargains. I have no idea what I am going to buy most people. :(

Most of the stores around here were open 6pm to 10pm (or 11pm) Thanksgiving night and then open again at 9am (or 8am) on Black Friday. I think the merchants generated a lot of good will by giving Thanksgiving back to the families again.

And the pushing, shoving and general mayhem of early Black Friday hours was causing too many problems for the stores in prior years. Their employees probably hated Black Friday, too.

Oh, I love Farkel! It is such a great family game! So glad Gus was able to come over.

Yeah for Josh making the pies! I was so surprised when you wrote that he didn't do that! He's a good guy!

Awesome that you found the black skirt that you love - what a great way to start off the holiday season!

I am so amazed that you worked out today. Most people (myself included) would say, "It's my normal day off so I won't work out today"! I hope you get out of your funk soon - it really is no fun. Listen to all of the people here on the DIS - You are doing FABULOUS and don't let your head tell you otherwise!

So glad you had a good Thanksgiving!

Have a great rest of the weekend.
