The Quest For 15K & 18 FP+ ~ A Marathon Weekend 2016 PTR - TR Link, Page 18

Miscellaneous Updates, Mark III

I’ve been pretty focused on the daily plans, but I wanted to interrupt that part of the PTR for a quick miscellaneous update. I’m hoping to have the day 4 plans for you soon (they’re about 85% written up, I just have to finish the write-up, find pictures, and have Beth approve it), but until then, hopefully this will tide you over.

Beth:
That’s right, Beth gets her own update section today! And it’s the first section because she’s the most important.
I’m thrilled to report that she went running three times last week. Her foot hurt a bit on the first run, so she decided that it was time for new running shoes. We went to the running store on Tuesday, and she ended up with a pair of Brooks Defyance 8s. She also tried a pair of Asics (my old favorite), but felt that the Brooks were more comfortable.
I did not take a picture of her actual shoes, but here is a picture from the internet:
2956466-p-MULTIVIEW.jpg

Not as pretty as mine, but they’re cool. Foot still hurts a bit, even with the new shoes, but it’s getting better, and she does like the shoes, which is good.

Movie Nights, Part 2:
It’s been a while since my movie night post, so I figured I’d share what movies we’ve watched since then. Not a lot of them, mostly because we’ve been busy.

  • Inside Out: I know this opinion will be highly unpopular, but … not the biggest fan. I liked the ending, but not most of the movie. Beth didn’t like it at all – it was too sad. I’m glad we saw it, but I don’t think I’d watch it again.
  • Iron Man: Again, I’m glad we watched it, but neither one of us really liked it much (I liked it more than Beth, but I still probably wouldn’t watch it again). So now we need to decide if we want to watch the rest of the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I do want to do the Avengers Half Marathon at some point, and I’m not necessarily anti-superheroes, but … my favorite superhero is DC, not Marvel (and my favorite Marvel superhero isn’t part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe … yet). So there’s nothing that’s really pulling me into the Avengers stuff.
We’ll also (most likely) be watching The Muppets tomorrow. We’ve seen it before, but I got it for free using my Disney Movie Rewards points, so we’ll watch it again. (My points were apparently about to expire, so I redeemed them for a mystery DVD and got me some Muppets as a pleasant surprise – I was totally expecting the mystery DVD to be something Tinker Bell).

Podcasts:
I don’t know how many of you listen to the DIS Unplugged podcast, but if you don’t … you should. I just started listening a few weeks ago and I love it. I’m not going to go into the details, but I’ll just say this … who knew that the people who run this site are so entertaining?
To summarize, if you’re looking for something to listen to (either as background noise or to kill time) and you want something with a Disney flair and a little attitude, I highly recommend checking out the podcast. There are actually multiple podcasts (in addition to the WDW one, there's a DL one, a Universal one, and one that's generally about vacation and other Orlando-based activities), and they can be found at www.disunplugged.com.

Packing:
Because I’m neurotic, Beth and I sat down one day and made general lists of what needs to be packed. So we now have a shopping list and a packing list. And I’m in the process of breaking the packing list down by person so that we each have our own individual packing lists.
Like I said, I’m neurotic.
We’ve already bought some things (including a lot of food – cereal, snacks, tuna, etc.), and some things we don’t need to buy (like most of our toiletries). We do still have some things to buy (some of which will have to wait until shortly before the trip), but overall, we’re in pretty good shape.
Now if only I could figure out what to wear every day… (hey, at least I’m making progress on my race costumes – Dumbo is completely done except for the skirt, which is in progress).

Sad that you'll be missing the Welcome Show, but I'll try to post lots of pics in the TR to make you really jealous that you missed it!

Hee. Please do. I want to be positively Kermit green with envy.

And that's a pretty interesting VHS rotation. From ages 8-11, my VHS rotation was pretty much Lion King, Aladdin, and My Girl.

I think I first saw Airplane! at age 5. My parents were not permissive about movies and books in any way, yet certain things they let slip through the cracks.

I’m thrilled to report that she went running three times last week. Her foot hurt a bit on the first run, so she decided that it was time for new running shoes. We went to the running store on Tuesday, and she ended up with a pair of Brooks Defyance 8s.

Yay for new shoes! I'm so glad her healing is progressing.

and my favorite Marvel superhero isn’t part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe … yet

Who would that be?

hey, at least I’m making progress on my race costumes – Dumbo is completely done except for the skirt, which is in progress)

Woo hoo! I can't believe your trip is coming up so soon. Loving the plans so far. :)

So happy Beth is feeling better! Yeah for new running shoes!

I haven't seen inside out yet, but have heard pretty mixed things from people.

Podcast.. I have thought about listening to them, but haven't gotten around to it, maybe some day..

Yeah packing... I am going to avoid this topic....:rolleyes1

The shoes look good and I'm glad her foot is getting a bit better. I have been rotating between two pairs of shoes seeing which I like better. I run in a pair of Nike free runs or my New Balance Goofy runDisney shoes. I'm going to eventually have to get another pair. I probably should go to a running store but I don't know of that many in my area. I know many use brooks so I'll probably look at those.

That sucks that you didn't like iron man or inside out all that much. I loved both, personally I like avengers better but I though iron man is still good.

I love the Disunplugged! I have been watching for a few years and that's what actually brought me to the DIS as I discovered the podcast first. I usually watch live but with school that doesn't work out that great. The only one I don't listen to regularly is the universal edition unless there is a topic that interests me.

Packing! It's probably not too early to start thinking about that. I should start looking at a packing list.

First.....good luck in your race tomorrow! I hope you have a great time.

I'm glad to hear that Beth is doing better and getting some runs in. I think her shoes look great. :) The real question is did you buy anything too?

Fun movie choices. I have to say I didn't love Inside Out either but we ended up seeing it twice in the theater and for some reason I enjoyed it more the second time. I haven't seen Iron Man yet. Our Marvel viewing has included both Avenger movies and the Captain America ones. Oh and Antman. I'm not really a super hero girl especially the more violent ones but I am trying my best to chip away at them.

I am honestly jealous of your organization. I really, really need to get a list going. I feel like I have so much still to do and all of the extra holiday stuff and all the extra hours at work really has me overwhelmed! I almost have our 5k costumes done (but in all honesty many of them are just costumes and didn't require a ton of work on my end) but I do need to dust off the sewing machine for my half costume so I'm hoping to work on that this week. Remind me is Dumbo your 5k or 10k costume? Have you told us what your other one is?

So happy Beth is feeling better! Yeah for new running shoes!

Thanks. And yup, new shoes are always fun!

I haven't seen inside out yet, but have heard pretty mixed things from people.

It seems like a lot of people I know liked it, which is why I'm surprised that I didn't.

Podcast.. I have thought about listening to them, but haven't gotten around to it, maybe some day..

I think it's worth a listen if you get a chance. They discuss some interesting stuff.

Yeah packing... I am going to avoid this topic....:rolleyes1

Well, you've still got a little bit of time to pack...

If you like your current shoes, you may want to just try buying new ones online or something (I think even the runDisney shoes have a corresponding non-Disney version available from New Balance). If you do go with new shoes ... Brooks has a lot of really good shoes, and I'm also a big Asics fan. It's a lot of trial and error trying to find shoes that you like.
Even though you don't have a running store near you, if there's a big race expo nearby, you may be able to get fitted there. When I went to the NYC marathon expo the running store was doing shoe fittings there, and I'm sure a lot of big race expos have something similar. So that's a possibility.
I think there are also websites that will help you pick out shoes based on your needs and preferences, so you may want to search for something like that.

That sucks that you didn't like iron man or inside out all that much. I loved both, personally I like avengers better but I though iron man is still good.

I'm picky about what movies I like. I think I might like Avengers more if I ever get around to seeing it ... but we were told that we had to watch the Marvel Cinemaitic Universe movies in a particular order, so Iron Man was first.

I love the Disunplugged! I have been watching for a few years and that's what actually brought me to the DIS as I discovered the podcast first. I usually watch live but with school that doesn't work out that great. The only one I don't listen to regularly is the universal edition unless there is a topic that interests me.

That's pretty cool. I discovered the boards a while ago but just discovered the podcast a few months ago and I'm hooked. I try to watch live, but I'm usually too busy. The only one I don't watch/listen to is Disneyland, but that's just because I haven't had a reason to listen yet - I'm sure I'll start listening soon as I'm planning to go out there for my 30th birthday. I listened to the Universal one once because they were discussing something Harry Potter, and now I'm hooked because Craig, JenniLynn, and Ryno are hysterical.

Packing! It's probably not too early to start thinking about that. I should start looking at a packing list.

Good luck with your packing list!
I think the thing I hate most about Disney in the winter is packing clothing - I don't know if it will be cold or warm, so I don't know what to pack. Hopefully when it gets closer I'll have a better idea.

First.....good luck in your race tomorrow! I hope you have a great time.

Thanks!

I'm glad to hear that Beth is doing better and getting some runs in. I think her shoes look great. :) The real question is did you buy anything too?

Thanks.
This was really a shoe-centered trip, so I did not get anything. Other than a not-so-great coffee at my old regular coffee place, which has gone downhill a bit over the last few years.

We were given an order in which we need to watch the Marvel movies. Iron Man was the first one on the list. I think I probably would have enjoyed some of the other ones better.
Personally, I don't love superheroes, but I like some. Iron Man was never one of my favorites, so I didn't really go in expecting to like the movie much.

I'm always a little entertained when people are amazed at how organized I am. This is basically what I do. Excel spreadsheets are my life ... it's just who I am.
Dumbo is the 10K. Assuming I finish the skirt in time. Which may or may not happen, depending on how frequently I injure myself while sewing.
5K will most likely be Ariel's pink dress, but I haven't had a lot of success finding a top that matches my skirt, so I may end up doing something else. I think I still have a little bit of time to figure it out...

Daily Plans: Day 4, Friday 1/8
And we're back to the daily plans.
So … day 4. Another day, another should-be-illegal early wake up call. This race starts a little earlier than yesterday’s race, so we’ll be getting up a little earlier. Wake up will probably be between 3:15 & 3:30 (assuming we remember to properly set the alarm to A.M. not P.M.) with plans to be on a bus by 4:15 or so.

Where are we headed? Back to the same place we went yesterday. Same start to the day … get on a bus, sit on the bus, get off the bus, listen to some music, see some characters, and stand around in corrals waiting for a race to begin.
Race starts at 5:30, with an expected start around 6ish for Beth & me. I’ll have a better start time for y’all in the TR … my Garmin watch tracks such things. It tracks weather too. I’m hoping to report good weather.

Once we start the race, things change. In fact, the race goes in the opposite direction. Here’s today’s map:

FL13019TY.png

Unlike the 5K, where Beth & I will be sticking together the whole time, for the 10K we’ll separate somewhere around the start line. Beth will be doing intervals of 1:45 walk/1:30 run, and I’ll be doing intervals of 4:00 run/1:00 walk. We do both plan to stop for some characters, but with the 10K, it’s a little bit harder than with the 5K.
Officially, all runDisney races require a minimum pace of 16:00 min/mile. This equates to an overall time limit (for the last starter) of 49:36 for the 5K and 1:39:12 for the 10K. However, runDisney (or any race organization, for that matter) doesn’t monitor every person’s pace throughout the race – there are pacers who start after the last runner crosses the start line, and if you get passed by those pacers (who are maintaining the minimum pace), you may be at risk of being swept off the course at certain points. That said … runDisney is well-known for not enforcing the pacing requirements for the 5K. Last year I finished in over an hour … and while I wasn’t the last one to cross the start line, I did start less than 10 minutes before the last starter (probably about 4-5 minutes). My overall pace was over 20:00 min/mile. However, for the 10K and longer distances, they do enforce the pacing requirements, so we’ll have to stay ahead of the sweepers. Because we’re hoping not to be in the last corral, we’ll have a small cushion, but not much (meaning that we could probably have an average pace of about 16:03 and be safe, but not slower).
Beth is running with a pace in the mid to low 12s and I’m in the mid 11s to low 12s. So theoretically, we should both have plenty of time for characters stop. However, the lines can be long sometimes, and we do have to pay attention to our paces to make sure that being swept is not a concern for us. I think we’ll both get at least one or two character pictures, but whether we get all of them will depend on the lines and our pacing.

Anyway, once we’ve run around Epcot and some of its hotels, we’ll cross the finish line and each get handed a fancy medal featuring one of my favorite mice …
TenK1.jpg

After that, it’s a similar drill to yesterday. Whoever finishes first waits for the other one, we grab water, banana and a snack box, look for characters, take a finisher picture, and then jump on a bus back to Pop Century.

Since its Friday, our schedule for the day is a little bit very intense. We’ll quick shower and change, then head over to the buses and grab a bus to…
Day424.jpg

Once we get into the park, we’ll take a left at the tree and head to Africa (possibly stopping at Creature Comforts for a celebratory latte, time permitting … we’ll have to figure out before we leave Pop Century if we have time for coffee at AK or if we have to get from the food court). Our first FP+ is scheduled for 10:15 AM -11:15 AM and it’s for my favorite attraction at Animal Kingdom …
Day460.jpg

Once we’re done hanging with some animals, we’ll walk through Africa over to Asia, where our plan is to see Baloo and King Louie, who we always like to visit with for a bit.
Expedition Everest is a question mark. It will depend on the line, how my back feels, and how out of our way we’re willing to go. We decided not to FP+ it just because I really don’t know if I’ll be feeling up to it after the race (and Beth doesn’t like it very much).

Once we’re done with Asia, we’ll head back to Discovery Island to see the star of our medals (along with someone else very special) …
Day445.jpg

We’ve got a FP+ to meet them, scheduled for 11:20 AM – 12:20 PM. Once we’ve hung with the Main Mice for a bit, we’ll head over to Dinoland USA, where we’ve got a FP+ for the 1 PM showing of …
IMG_0154.jpg

This will be our first time seeing Finding Nemo: The Musical (the above picture is from my parents … I’m allowed to use it without giving credit because it was taken with my camera … maybe). I’m a big Finding Nemo fan, and we’ve just never gotten to it before. I don’t think we’ll need the FP+, but I figured that having it would encourage us to actually make it to the show this time (we had plans last November … but ended up leaving the park early).

Once Nemo is done, we’ll do the rest of Dinoland USA until about 2:30ish. I’d like to see Dug & Russell (Beth hadn’t seen Up before the last time we were at AK, so this would be our first time trying to see them), and maybe Goofy and Pluto. We’ll do Triceratop Spin and Primeval Whirl if the lines are okay (we’ll skip Dinosaur because Beth’s not a dinosaur person and I’m terrified of Jurassic Park).

Once 2:30 PM hits (or we’re too exhausted to keep going), we’ll exit the park and head back to the hotel. When we get back to the hotel, it’s time to prepare for Shabbos, which includes everything from washing our hair and changing into more formal clothing, to setting a table and preparing our food, to putting away electronics and things we won’t use over Shabbos.

(For more general information on Shabbos and what it entails, here’s a link back to my religious FAQ post from a few months ago)

Shabbos starts at (or before) 5:27 PM with the lighting of the Shabbos candles. We’ll set up tea lights by the sink and Beth will light them, and then depending on where the smoke detector is, I may move the candles into the bathroom before saying my evening prayers.

Dinner will be food that we bring from home, and after dinner we’ll either chill out, play some games, or go to sleep. And that will be the end of day 4.

Looks like a great Day 4!

I loved the 10K last year but of course won't be participating the year. I started in corral E. I had no running tech with me as I was brand new to this stuff but I did have my Fitbit to track my steps. According to the tracker on my bib I ran like a 11:52 min/mile. I stopped for one character but did stop for many other pictures of things like mile markers and stuff. I think you'll do great!

The safari is my favorite AK attraction as well. It's a unique experience.

I have yet to meet Mickey and Minnie in their new spot.

I have seen Nemo the musical once and I thought it was great. I haven't made it a priority tho like I do with lion king. I could watch the festival of the lion king all day long. I think I am going to try and see Nemo again.

We are almost to the 30 day mark it's getting so close it's crazy!

Foot still hurts a bit, even with the new shoes, but it’s getting better, and she does like the shoes, which is good.
Hopefully the shoes will help and it will get better.

Inside Out: I know this opinion will be highly unpopular, but … not the biggest fan. I liked the ending, but not most of the movie. Beth didn’t like it at all – it was too sad. I’m glad we saw it, but I don’t think I’d watch it again.
I've kind of wondered about this one. I've heard good things from some who have seen it, but it isn't something I've really been excited about seeing myself. I mean, I've seen Good Dinosaur already, but still not this one.

Iron Man: Again, I’m glad we watched it, but neither one of us really liked it much (I liked it more than Beth, but I still probably wouldn’t watch it again). So there’s nothing that’s really pulling me into the Avengers stuff.
I'd give more of the Marvel stuff a chance. I honestly, wasn't really into any of it to start with. I wasn't familiar with Iron Man and I never even watched any of those movies until I'd seen Captain America and was trying to study up before the Avengers came out. I really liked the Captain America and Avengers movies the best. Iron Man was ok, but I just didn't feel like those movies were the best of the bunch.

Wow. You're on it early!

I'd definitely say that finishing the race takes priority over being swept. Skip the characters and finish the race!

It looks like a fun day at AK after the race. I hope you do finally get to see Finding Nemo. I'm pretty sure that sleep will likely win over a game night after you eat dinner in the room!

I'm sure your pace will be plenty fast to allow for character stops along the way.

AK is the perfect park for a shorter day. ;) First stop coffee seems just about right. It will be well earned!

Laughing because apparently my two favorite AK attractions you hate....Dinosaur and It's Tough to be a Bug. Haha! We saw Nemo pretty recently (this summer?) and I know I'm in the minority but I just don't love it but that might have to do with the movie not being a favorite either. BUT you should definitely make it a priority and I too FP things sometimes just be get it "officially" on the schedule. Getting a picture with Minnie will be a must! I'm actually thinking of trying to get a picture with Donald (after the half) in every park because apparently running a half won't be enough running around for me.

Having the opportunity to relax/rest during Shabbos will probably be welcomed after the previous two very early mornings.

Looks like a great Day 4!

Thanks!

Last year I did my 5K with just the stopwatch on my watch (and my Fitbit, but since I have the clip one, I tend to not pay attention to it during the day), so I was using that to track my pace. It'll be a little easier with the Garmin. I'm definitely planning to stop for pictures of the mile markers (which I didn't do last year and really regretted) and maybe some other assorted pictures, so I hope I still have time to stop for characters!

The safari is my favorite AK attraction as well. It's a unique experience.

Definitely. I love that you never have the same experience twice. Last time we did it we saw a lot of animals up close ... I'm hoping we get more of that this trip!

I have yet to meet Mickey and Minnie in their new spot.

I don't love it (the travel theme doesn't really excite me), but it's a must-do for us because it's the only place to meet them together.

I have seen Nemo the musical once and I thought it was great. I haven't made it a priority tho like I do with lion king. I could watch the festival of the lion king all day long. I think I am going to try and see Nemo again.

I totally don't blame you for prioritizing Festival of the Lion King - we did that last trip! We do really want to see Nemo, so we'll probably skip Lion King this trip, but if we have time, we might try to catch it.

We are almost to the 30 day mark it's getting so close it's crazy!

I know! Just over a month! I can't believe it's so close!!

Hopefully the shoes will help and it will get better.

Oh, the shoes. I hope they help ... but we'll see. Since last week things have gone downhill with the shoes.

I've kind of wondered about this one. I've heard good things from some who have seen it, but it isn't something I've really been excited about seeing myself. I mean, I've seen Good Dinosaur already, but still not this one.

Eh. I don't think it's worth going out of your way to see.
I'll probably wait until The Good Dinosaur ends up on TV to see it. I hope you enjoyed it!

I think I will give the Marvel stuff another chance, but we'll see. I may have to do it alone, because Beth really isn't interested.

Wow. You're on it early!

I like lists. Packing lists are a type of list.
The actual packing, though ... it'll be a while until I get to that.

You're crazy.

Surprisingly, you're not the first person to say that to me. Weird, right?

I'd definitely say that finishing the race takes priority over being swept. Skip the characters and finish the race!

I'm hoping we can find a balance between finishing the race and getting character pictures. It'll just be a matter of gauging how long lines are and staying aware of pace and timing.
The good thing about character lines at the races (as opposed to in the park) is that there isn't a long interaction, it's basically a quick picture and that's it, so the lines usually move pretty fast.

It looks like a fun day at AK after the race. I hope you do finally get to see Finding Nemo. I'm pretty sure that sleep will likely win over a game night after you eat dinner in the room!

Thanks!
And yeah, we'll probably be heading straight to bed. Unless we want to keep ourselves up later so that we can sleep in a little more the next morning. But probably sleep right away.

I'm sure your pace will be plenty fast to allow for character stops along the way.

I hope you're right! I think we'll be in good shape, but we'll see how long the lines are ... as you'll see, they can get pretty long sometimes.

AK is the perfect park for a shorter day. ;) First stop coffee seems just about right. It will be well earned!

Last year we did DHS on our short day ... I think AK is a much better choice!
And after the early wakeup, coffee will definitely be a needed stop!

Haha ... I guess we just have very different tastes in attractions ;)
I love the Donald in every park idea! It'll definitely be a lot of extra running around ... because 13.1 miles just isn't enough to run in one day. You'll definitely need to wear your Fitbit that day to see how many extra miles you get!

Having the opportunity to relax/rest during Shabbos will probably be welcomed after the previous two very early mornings.

Definitely. I'm already looking forward to a late wakeup on Saturday morning!

I enjoyed your mini update and your Day 4 plans.

I'm glad that Beth's runs have been successful and that she found some running shoes she is happy with.

I haven't seen Inside Out. I have heard that it is sad, and frankly, I don't like to see or read sad things for entertainment, even if the ending is upbeat. My boys like the Marvel/Avenger movies, I don't really sit and watch. I did see Captain America and that was good. I'm with you on the DC Superheroes, but because I am a wee bit older (decades) than you, Superman with Christopher Reeve was my movie series. Oh, and the Saturday morning Justice League cartoons.

I have not listened to the podcasts, but I should. I know the Beach Club/Yacht Club thread I manage has hit the top 10 a couple of times. I'm sure there are a bunch of topics on the WDW and the Universal podcasts that would be interesting to me.

I can totally appreciate your obsessive and neurotic need for lists and premature packing plans!!!

:worship:

Your Day 4 plans should work well- an early morning wakeup, a little time at AK and an early turn-in.

The safari should be a nice easy experience after your active morning. I hope you do make it to the Nemo show. It is so visually stunning! I like the storyline, but I don't remember being blown away by the music from the show. But it is still so worth watching the effects.

I agree with Andy- I think there will be less games and more sleep once you settle in to the room.

:goodvibes:

Thanks for taking the time to read! I'm glad you enjoyed.

Oh, the shoes ... the shoes have become a problem. While they were fine on the first run or two, since then she's been having a lot of pain. So she may end up returning the shoes. We'll see.

Inside Out was definitely sad, and I can understand why you wouldn't want to watch it.
I cried the day Christopher Reeve died. I still remember it - it was my freshman year of college, and I was up and ready early, so I went down to the lounge to watch TV (I didn't have a TV in my dorm room, but the building had a TV in a lounge), and I turned on the Today Show ... and there it was. I was heartbroken. To me, he will always be Superman.
Well, him and Dean Cain, because I remember watching Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Which is why I'm very excited that Dean Cain is on the new Supergirl show (even though he doesn't play Superman ... it's still a nice touch).

They do discuss a lot of interesting topics, and I think its worth a listen if you get a chance.

Yay! Someone understands me!

Thanks! It's definitely a lot more morning than I'm used to (we're not big morning people), but hopefully it will work out well!

Oh, I will be very happy to sit down on the Safari and see some animals without walking. I will have done enough walking/running that day.
I hope we get to see Nemo ... most people say it's visually amazing, and I love Nemo, so I'm really excited for it!

I agree with Andy- I think there will be less games and more sleep once you settle in to the room.

Yeah, that's probably what's going to happen. I just like to give myself options.

It was tragic what happened with Christopher Reeve and his wife Dana. They both did a lot of good advocating about paralysis issues and lung cancer awareness to the world.

I loved Lois & Clark, too!

I haven't been watching Supergirl, but I did catch Dean Cain on Food TV's Celebrity Worst Cooks in America. He was pretty bad.

That's probably one of the few shows on Food Network that I don't watch (I'm not an Anne Burrell fan), but I saw commercials for it and they certainly made it seem like he can't cook.
He has a very small role on Supergirl (he plays her adoptive father) - he's only been on a few episodes, but since there's a storyline involving his death, I'm guessing he'll be showing up more. I don't love the show, but I really want to keep watching just to see what happens with his storyline.

Looks like a great day! I am giving you so much credit for going to a park after the race!!

Ok now I'm so confused why do they have characters out but then a pace time that makes it hard to stop! Ugh that's rather annoying maybe they should up the pace time so more people could stop.... Or maybe they are trying to discourage people from stopping to often.....

Allegedly walking around after a race is good. Keeps the blood circulating in your legs or something.

So ... I think the reason that they do the pacing is because they need to be able to reopen roads at a certain time. 16:00 min/mile is actually not a bad pace relatively speaking - a lot of races require faster paces.
There are plenty of people who do the races and don't stop for characters at all - they just like running through the parks and having the Disney race experience, which is pretty cool even without the characters. runDisney does warn you that you may want to train for a faster pace, most people do have time to stop for at least one character, and many people can stop for all the characters. The character handlers do their best to get the pictures taken quickly so that the line moves fast. So even though sometimes it seems like you won't be able to stop for characters, it is pretty doable for a lot of people. It just takes training to get your pace to the right place.
At our paces, I think we'll be able to stop for most of the characters ... but it really depends on the lines. And characters not taking long breaks as soon as I get in line (happened to me last year).

Just reading about your running stuff exhausts me! :crazy2: Maybe someday I'll get in shape and try to make a runDisney event a goal... They do look like so much fun! :cutie:

Your plans are looking awesome, lady! :thumbsup2

Yay for Beth running again...good shoes always help! Your day 4 looks great...race days always are exciting and bring their own little twists to the day!
