Soda Package on RCL?

This may appear to be a bit of a strange question, but what is included in the soda package on RCL? I know that it is fountain soda, but is it Coca Cola or Pepsi products and what kind of sodas are available? We will be sailing on the Splendour so unfortunately no Freestyle machines for us. I am trying to make up my mind whether or not to purchase this.

Not talking from experience but from what I understand, if you have the soda package then you get a special cup that you can use at the freestyle machines. There are over 100 flavors in the machines. Check out post #13 here...but it looks like Coke products as opposed to Pepsi http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2245813&highlight=royal+refreshment+package (post 13) .
You need the package to be able to use the machines (and need your cup).

You can also get a drink at any bar or MDR with the package (or without the package and pay by the can)

The standard fountain setup was Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Diet Sprite, and then one or two Fanta flavors (Orange and Barq's Root Beer come to mind, but its been a long time since we've been on an RCL ship without the Freestyle machines).

The ship they're sailing doesn't have the freestyle machines.

Thanks to all of you. This will be my first RCL cruise and I am feeling a little like a fish out of water. Their website is not as user friendly as it could be.

I am familiar with the freestyle machine and love the raspberry Coke and the peach Fanta. We now have Five Guys in the UK and they dod the freestyle machines. Unfortunately the Splendour does not have them.

Thanks. I was hoping for Fanta.

Sailing out of that part of the world, you're likely to get more Fanta flavors than what we see sailing out of the states. Fanta's not quite as common or popular here as it is in Europe.

I was born and grew up in Germany and there was a staggering amount of different flavours available. Here in the UK, we don't have as many. We are however sailing out of Dubai and I am not sure what is available there.

I sailed on the Liberty last year (which also does not have the Freestyle machines). I purchased the soda package that also included juice, bottled water, specialty coffees, etc. What I found incredibly frustrating is that it was difficult to actually get my soda! I like soda with my meals and in the main dining room, it would take a long time to get the server to bring it (and he actually did not remember to bring it after I had ordered it a couple of times). And at the buffet, I would have to go to the bar to get the soda (which was not always convenient).

That does not sound good at all. I may have a soda or two during the day when I am out and about, but I mainly like it with my meals.

If you want soda, and enough sodas per day to make the cost worth it, buy it. If you only want one a day, or you can do without, don't buy it. With the soda package, it seems it's easy enough to figure out if the package makes sense or not.

Knowing how I drink, I won't get the soda package (don't drink it) and I won't get Replenish anymore. I couldn't get Replenish to pay out financially for us on the last two cruises. So I'm done with it. I'll get a WATER package, because I do love my Evian (with Replenish you get things like Crystal Geyser, which is still lovely spring water, but doesn't cost anywhere near as much as Evian), but I'll pay for my coffee out of pocket.

That's Replenish, FYI.

Refreshment is JUST the soda. If I were having problems with the beverage server not bringing my soda one night, on following nights I would just show up with my drink (stopping at a bar on the way to dinner). The only beverage we've gotten at the buffet is the OJ (included in Replenish), and that takes AGES to get. If DH could get his fresh squeezed OJ in some other way, I would just get it on the way to the buffet (though what to do with it while we get food, I don't know).

I've noticed that the servers at the MDR who are interested in beverages really pay attention that first night. If you have something that first night, they seem to show up with it every night. If you don't want anything, they pay attention to that, too. So start as you intend to continue; order something that first night and make sure you let them know that you like that.

From what I noticed in Europe, Fanta in Europe is VERY different than what the US calls Fanta. Not sure what they might actually have on the ships.

That is part of the issue. I have no idea how much they charge for soda. On our NCL back to back cruise, I had decided agains the soda package, but the prices for soda were so crazy that I never had any and I did miss it.

I live in Europe and I am familiar with both. For me, the US version is a real treat, but I like our version as well.

How easy / accessible is it to get the specialty coffee?

Pretty easy. There was a coffee shop (I forget the name) and you could get anything on the menu there. Sometimes there was a bit of a line but it moved quickly.

I did end up getting the soda package, but I am still none the wiser as to what is available. I just ended up drinking Coke all week. I have come to the conclusion that I would not get the soda package again unless the ship has the Coca Cola Freestyle machines. Fortunately it looks like the next three cruises will be on the Ovation of the Seas and as the sister ships have the Coca Cola Freestyle machines, I assume that the Ovation will, too.

I sailed RCCL years ago before Freestyle machines were there. I got the soda package but hated how watered-down and flavorless the cola was. I vowed that I wouldn't get the package again unless it offered CANS, not the bars' fountain versus.
