Does the gold annual pass allow for park hopping? If yes, is the only difference between gold and silver the 30 or so blackout dates? TIA

The price difference is a pretty big reason. If we were offered the silver, that's the one I would take. I don't believe the silver has photo pass either.

Yes, the hundred dollar price difference is only to get those 30 or so blackout days, everything else is the same. So IMO you really have to want to go during those particular times to make the platinum worth it.

Silver is only available to FL Residents.
Gold is only available to DVC Members & FL Residents.
Platinum & Platinum Plus are available to everyone with FL Residents & DVC Members eligible for reduced pricing.

This is what I was thinking. The biggest thing about the silver pass is DVC members can't get them, unless they are also Florida residents.

They should NOT call the FL pass "silver" it should be "FL AP". Calling it silver creates unnecessary confusion. Naming all passes a similar thing (silver, gold ect.) and not allow everyone to buy them is just dumb.

I c it now. "G- Hello, we would like 4 silver passes. CM- FL ID please. G- We live in GA. CM- You can only buy the Plat pass. G- :furious:

Okay so if my family was to get Gold Annual Passes and our next trip we are traveling with friends will we be able to link them to the photopass. (They are staying in the same room with us)

There haven't been any firsthand reports on what happens that I have seen but people have been told that the only photos you can get are the ones linked to the magic band of the person with the pass- so if a family has 1 pass then the person with that magic band has to use their band for all the pictures. The passes haven't been out long enough to see if this is truly how it works just what some CMs have said.

The price difference between the platinum and gold are about 30 days (4 weeks actually). The difference between the silver and the gold is the 3 months of summer not included so about 90 days.

I think I am more confused. The Gold that is available to DVC members - I checked Disney's site and it sure looked to me as if there were only about 30 blackout dates, not 90. If the summer is not included, that's a big deal breaker. CAn you please clarify this?

The DVC Gold pass is blocked out over the Christmas - New Year's time frame and the weeks surrounding Easter. The actual blocked out dates for 2015 & 2016 will be: 12/17-12/31/15, 1/1/16, 3/19-4/1/16, 12/16-12/31/16, 1/1-1/2/17.

Gold Pass includes hopping, free parking and the photopass perk.

More info on the new annuals can be found here:

Do you know if you can buy a Gold Pass if you are not sure if you will be travelling during the black out dates and pay the difference to upgrade platinum if necessary?

rlovew was talking about silver vs gold. Silver is for FL residents only and has more blockout dates than the Gold (which has 30ish).

That's the way it always worked with Disneyland passes, which had blockout dates until you got to Premium. (ok well until a year or so ago you could buy a blockout pass for a random day, but if it went beyond that it made more sense to just upgrade)

When in doubt, I always assume that whatever you want to do is OK with Disney IF it involves giving them more money.

Disney has always allow a passholder to upgrade their pass to a higher level anytime during the year. They don't prorate the difference and your expiration date will be unchanged.

I upgraded my AP to gold on Oct. 14 (it only cost me $18.10 because it was the renewal rate!) As an experiment we used DH's band for one of our photo pass shots (DH does not have a separate MDE account, I manage his stuff). Those photos DID show up for me to download. I had to make sure that the photo pass filter was set for family/friends, not just my own photos. My DSis will be coming in March and staying in a separate room and my AP will still be valid. I am wondering if her photo pass photos will be available to me like they were when we bought Memory Maker last March. I am so greedy.

My husband has a separate account but we are linked via family and friends in MDE-I am able to see and download pictures linked to his magic band (both photographer and ride shots). I upgraded to the new gold AP from regular DVC AP yesterday and had access to both our photos immediately. Only I can download them for free though (obviously). I assume it would work for any other friends and family linked to the account.

This is good to know. Please after your March trip let us know if it works. As I said before I would like to know before our trip next September to know what to do with about friends who are joining us.

Hopefully there will be many others reporting before then but I certainly will post. DH has so many health issues that we are always at risk of canceling. I wonder if DSis's photos would still show up for me to download if she goes and we don't.
