Disneyland where do you stay?

Having only ever been as a student the times i have been i have stayed at ramadas LOL first time was the ramada on katella, has a shuttle and fairly nice. 2nd trip was the one at maingate north was $30 a night, but pretty long walk (over the freeway overpass bridge) or have to take the ART.

However last trip i stayed at the ramada maingate across from the park near the crosswalk - not fancy but clean, comfortable and free continental breakfast ( i wasnt using the pool - too cold for me, but it also looked clean and smelt clorinated). it was great after a long day in the park just walk thru the bus bays, across the crosswalk and into my room and fall into my bed... was about a 5 min walk from DL gate to being tucked up in bed if you catch the crosswalk on green!

Not sure how many people travelling but we just got back from the Sheraton Park Hotel, it is a short walk, our kids are 11 and 13 and the rooms have two queens. But it was fabulous. Rooms were $140 per night and we loved it.

Have stayed at GCH as well, not worth it in my opinion, rooms tiny. But the foyer is fantastic. HOJO is good, as long as you stay away from the family rooms which are next to the freeway, unless truck noise doesn't bother you.

We have stayed at the park vue inn on our last 2 Disney trips and love the location and it has the best free continental breakfast, you wont go wrong!

We have stayed at the Carousel, Disneyland Hotel, Grand Californian and Fairfield. All are fine. Our go to hotel is the Fairfield, the refurbished rooms are nice. HoJo's is just a bit too far to walk. The only problem with the GC is the shower, the water pressure is a nightmare, washing your hair, as my DD and I do daily, increases the time in the shower significantly. I don't think I've ever stayed anywhere with as little water in the shower. Anyway my vote is definately the Fairfield. :thumbsup2

On our recent trip, we stayed at a 2 bedroom villa at the GCH and I will never do an extended Disney trip any other way! We did it by renting via DVC which made it affordable.

Because we travelled at low season, it worked out to be roughly $400 per night (4 adults and 3 children). The villa was big, had a full kitchen, its own laundry and had 3 bathrooms! It was so convenient. Here are some photos. Ignore the ugly people walking around in the photos...

Shushh it looks great but i am going in July and it is sooo expensive have decided on the park vue and a Disney cruise instead;) just to check out that i like cruising before the 2015 one :rotfl:

We've stayed at the Anabella a couple of times and it's fantastic. Close to Cocos . Also done Fairfield Inn, the Castle Inn and Suites and the one next to the "strawberry farm" which is now car parking. Anabella is the nicest from all these ..

BUT

We have stayed at the DL hotel which was great, but we're heading back to the Paradise Pier for the 3rd time next April, as we can't get enough of the place, especially with the family. They cater for families very well, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and after staying there we just cannot go back to the "off-site" hotels unfortunately. The extra cost is well worth it for sure to enjoy the whole experience.

Excellent decision I say!

I rented from DVCAustralia. Prior to that, I honestly didn't know anything about DVC rental, not sure that I know that much now! Perhaps he can help you with your worries and questions? He is very knowledgeable.

Any updates to this thread? I'm doing research for our 2 nights in Anaheim and I want comfy and clean (and close). I've been told the area outside of DL can be quite seedy. Any updated recommendations?

I think it depends on your touring style. On a normal trip, we spend most of our time in the parks, aren't really big on pool time or anything like that, and really just use the room for sleeping and showering. Therefore, for us it makes the most sense to stay in one of the closest motels on Harbor. We really liked our stay at the Desert Inn & Suites. It wasn't anything fancy, but clean and comfortable, and REALLY close!

In 2009 we stayed at the Holiday Inn, 20 min walk from the parks but it did have a shuttle that cost from memory. Rooms were fine however this hotel is away from the rest and might be in one of those seedy areas you mentioned... when our cab pulled up the cops were at the house across the street! LOL.

It was quiet but too far from restaurants for our liking. Having said that, we'll have a car for the next trip, so as long as it has free parking and good rates, we'd stay there again.

We are staying at marriott courtyard anaheim theme park entrance in Jan. It is a new hotel and has been getting good reviews.

@zanzibar138, I don't know if we can be described as having a touring style! I do want something walking distance, and preferably somewhere that the kids (teenagers) can have their own beds. Has to be clean...

In that case, I would highly recommend the Desert Inn & Suites. You can get a suite that has two fully separate bedrooms (and bathrooms) with 4 queen size beds + sofa bed altogether. It's kind of like having adjoining rooms. And it's one of the closest available.

We have stayed at the Hyatt Regency Orange County...when not staying at a Disneyland resort. (as sometimes Disney's rates are insane or no availability)

before moving to Australia I lived in Las Vegas NV and would go to DL Resort almost monthly. (DL is just a few hours drive from Vegas...or a quick 30min flight)
And started to prefer staying at the Hyatt vrs DL Resort hotels. Don't get us wrong..with LOVE Disney Resorts...but when making frequent trips...it's hard to justify the cost for a Disney room. As sadly the 'Disney Service' does not live up to what it once was.
They Hyatt is also a nice place to relax and unwind...the resort is very peaceful. We find that the DL resorts tend to stay "active" even after park hours. With crazed kids running the halls late at night...and all that stuff.

Since we are Hyatt Courtesy Card members...we tend to stay within the Hyatt Brand. But rest assured the Hyatt Orange County is a fabulous hotel that's close to DL Resort. They have their own dedicated bus that takes you/picks you up from DL resort. It's a short 5min trip..if that.
you can get rooms with views of DL fireworks

This hotel/resort is EXTREMELY popular with Disneyland resort guests. Majority of their rooms go to those who are visiting DL

The rates are usually very good (considering the level of the hotel and brand) and often have great sales/promos
The location of the hotel is across the street from a large Target (keep in mind American Targets are also like full grocery stores as well) Walking distance to a large number of other restaurants and shopping.
They has their own Starbucks in the lobby.

They play Disney movies non-stop in the lobby with a dedicated viewing area for kids to watch. Their in house restaurants are excellent and not overpriced for being inside your hotel.

we could go on and on. But certainly a silver star class service (think that's the Aussie version of first class) and hotel ...without the 5 start luxury resort price tag.

I second the Hyatt Regency, we absolutely loved this place,we stayed in a kids suite, the size was huge, kids had bunk beds(double on bottom) own TV , we had king size bed, tv, fridge and microwave.
Starbucks, restaurant downstairs , own shuttle, target and dining options surround the Hyatt too.

Hi Zosha
We have stayed at the Desert Palms Hotel and Suites a number of times. It is on Katella Avenue, 'behind' California Adventure, about a 10-15 minute walk to the main gate. Desert Palms has a range of different suites available (dependent on your budget) and includes free WIFI and breakfast. The pool is quiet small (given the size of the hotel) but the staff are very friendly. There is 711 next door, which is very handy for picking up late night drinks/snacks and it is an easy walk to the Cheesecake Factory, one of my favorite places to eat (mind you, I have only tried the various cheesecakes, the pieces are so large, there is no room for anything else).
