New Here- Considering Solo Trip :)

Hi everyone!
I'm totally new here and so excited to join this amazing community!

I live in Israel but grew up both here and in the US. I'm now almost 31 and visited Disney World and Disneyland countless times as a child and twice over the past 4 years. Divorced, no kids, I live alone and am pretty used to doing things on my own.

Still, the thought of visiting Disney World all alone is a bit depressing for me.
My biggest fear (as I saw others mention as well) is the rides. I'm a large woman and very self conscious about my body. I'm fine with it for the most part, but getting on rides alone scares the heck out of me.
The last time I was there was exactly two years ago, October 2013 with a cousin (first timer!!!!) which was amazing, and the time before that was December 2012 with my parents and siblings. (Which was meh. They're not big enough fans for my taste.)

I have a guy friend who would be an amazing travel partner. He's never been but loves the thought of going and loves the magic almost as much as I do. The thing is, I don't think it would be a good idea to travel with him unless we're in a serious relationship (which might be a future possibility as he's getting divorced.)
Bottom line is, I've been saving up for a year now and have no one to fly with. My ideal trip would be right about now- sometime between mid October and mid November. Well, looks like that's not gonna happen.

So.... what do you guys think?
Take the chance and travel alone? Wait a few more months and see what happens with Mr. guy friend?
(Which might mean waiting an entire year if I want to wait for the fall to come around again!)

Thank you so much for your input! :-)

You should go! Don't base events in your life around a future possible relationship; who knows how long you'd end up waiting. Anything could happen! Seize the moment and do this just for you! The rides shouldn't give you any problem with the exception, maybe, of Seven Dwarves Mine Train, and that's only because it squeezes down on your thighs. I'm a bigger woman and I didn't have any trouble with any rides last January when I went with my family, and I rode SDMT as well.

Thank you! I agree that it's not a good idea to sit around and wait, I just should have woken up a few months ago instead of waiting this long.
When I mentioned my body size, I wasn't exactly referring to fitting physically into the rides. I fit into everything I got on last time and even though I've gained a bit since then, I'm not really worried. My issue is more with appearance. And maybe getting in and out of rides. Some of them (like Space Mountain, if I remember correctly) are a bit hard to climb out of. When I'm with someone, they wait for me or give me a hand up. But alone.... I dunno, it just feels embarrassing.
Am I making any sense?
BTW, Last time I was there the SDMT was still being built- I'm so excited to see it open! :)

Girl - who cares what people think? You're never going to see any of the people you run into at Disney on your trip, ever again. Do your thing and hold your head high!!

I fell and sprained my ankle at Animal Kingdom last year. Everyone thinks it's funny when a fat person falls; I was so mortified. But I got up and limped away with my head held high (and a flush on my cheeks, for sure!) I enjoyed the rest of my trip though, even though I was in so much pain after that. I can't let what people may think about me ruin my good time!

You're my hero!! :)
(Come with me! LOL)

I am 30 and divorced. I am planning my first solo trip for this January and could not be more excited! Go for it! I planned a trip for last week with a guy I thought was mister right. Ended up he was mister wrong. I had pre booked a bunch of food and wine stuff. I ended up taking my mom with me so I wouldn't lose the money, but I learned my lesson. Don't worry about the guy! I can't wait for my solo trip! I am planning a Christmas trip with my best friend (we live close enough that we get really cheap south west flights and I have an AP) but am actually more excited about my solo venture. I've decided its time to do something just for me!

Don't ever base your happy on someone else (friend or family or 'maybe' boyfriend expecially one who isn't available, honey until the ink is dry on the divorce decree he's still married). If you want to go then you should go. Have fun, do what you want when you want. Instagram tons of pictures back home to family and friends.

I agree with those who posted above me.
By all means, go and have the time of your life..:)

I'll share a quick story... I once met a guy who was about 14 years older than me at a local restaurant bar. We became great friends.
He was a hippy in the 60's and became very successful in the 80's. I really looked up to him (still do) due to his incredible personality and his enjoyment of life.
I once asked him what the most important advice he could give me was, and he replied..."The most important advice that I've ever been given, and that I live by every day, is that you should "make something happen"".
He said that he keeps a note on his bathroom mirror that says "Make something happen" and looks at it every day when he gets up and before he goes to bed. He told me that I should do the same thing, always make something happen, and keep a note on my bathroom mirror as he did.

I did, and to this day I"m forever "Grateful"...:) to him for offering that advice to me.
The best memories that I have in my life are from times when I "made something happen".
It doesn't have to be anything epic or grand, but don't let opportunities pass you by, because you only live once..:)

Wow, I'm so happy for you! (And so jealous you live close by!!) Good for you! I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself :)

Thank you and you're so right! I'm definitely considering it. The only question would be when to go...

That's a great story- thanks for sharing. I want to make stuff happen too! And I'm dying to go!!!

Just go!!!! Don't wait on anyone. If things pan out with your friend than you can go again next year! I will be going solo for the first time in December and I cannot wait!
As for the rides being awkward...I don't think anyone else is going to notice and who cares if they do? They don't know you are solo!

Thank you so much! I really hope I find the right time and enough courage to go!

Even if you don't get there in October-Christmas is a great time to go! Plus don't feel like you are totally alone because I'm sure there will be other solos from these boards that are willing to meet up for a meal or for some rides! I will be there 12/6-12/9.

Thanks Jessica! I was there a few years ago in December and the rain really killed the mood. Any idea if January is also as rainy? I don't mind the cold really. Just the rain.

I'm not sure about rain but I know it's more likely to rain each day during Hurricane season (now) than in January.

Go for it! I have thought about going solo for years! As soon as the announcement was made that the Osborne lights will be leaving after this season I booked a flight and reserved a room. I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to see them one more time.

Hi JGal,
I also live in Israel, TA to be exact. Moved here from NY almost 9 years ago. I'm currently planning a solo trip to WDW for May 2016. I'm sandwiching it in during the next time I'll be in New York to visit my family. I've been wanting to go back for a long time (last time was almost 18 years ago when I was 16) and I finally decided that I don't want to wait any longer.
I say if you want to go then go for it!!! No point waiting around if it's something you really want to do. I am very much looking forward to doing all the things I want to do without having anyone else to consider.
Oh and by the way I love that dress you're wearing in your profile pic!

Thanks!
I only saw the lights once and it was so magical that I'm afraid nothing could beat that one experience. (Or maybe I'm just trying to console myself since I'm never going to see them again... :( )
