Airmiles Question! Updated!

After reading along here, I changed our 100% cash to 70% Dream Miles, 30% Cash Miles.

Can somebody explain to me:

My current transactions say I've earned 10 Airmiles. 6 to Airmiles Cash, 4 to Airmiles Dream.

How is that 30%/70% split?? That seems more like a 60%/40% split to me....or am I not understanding how the miles are translated into cash?

So here's the info I got from Airmiles:

please keep in mind that if you earn one reward mile on a purchase, it cannot be split in half. Therefore, it will go into either the Cash or Dream balance, depending on how the Cash and Dream "buckets" are filled up using the 30:70 ratio. For example, if your Cash bucket is filled with 3 reward miles, then it's full and at capacity. Then, each reward mile you earn will go into the Dream bucket until it's filled to 7. Next, the reward miles you earn go into the Cash bucket until it's full again, and so on and so forth. Remember, when you split your ratio, the Cash bucket is always filled to capacity first. Then it¿s the Dream bucket until full, and then back to the Cash bucket until full.

Nowhere on their site does it mention any of this. They really should put that out there for people to know! I'm fine with it - but having that kind of explanation plainly on the site would be helpful!

It does sound like 40/60 split to me instead of a 30/70 split,,I would contact Airmiles to discuss this.

When you have saved 95 cash airmiles it =$10.00
I use mine to purchase $10.00 starbucks gift cards for use in Disney and Christmas gifts for co-workers. I have collected enough for that now and am starting on some Toys R Us GC and Cineplex for xmas.
I don't do dream miles as it just takes me too long to reach any dream reward they have.
Hope that help
Hugs Mel

Thanks - I thought I was maybe missing something about cash miles - like $1 spent means 1.5 cash miles or something....

I'm saving the dream miles - my two girls both finish post-secondary education the same year (one university, one college) and so we're going to do a girls only trip. I said I would pay for flights - so I'm wondering how many miles I can collect in three years!

If you take it seriously, you should be able to collect more than enough. I just started taking it seriously 3 weeks ago and I've managed to pick up 1200AM just buying things I would buy anyway. Watch the bonus miles at the grocery store and Rexall pharmacy has some great ones. I find the last page of the flyer usually has a good bonus deal. (ie buy these three things get 50 bonus miles, the three things made a yummy dinner). The other thing to do is to watch for airmiles sales on on flights. If you book when they are on sale you can save 10-25%. Join the game! It's fun.

Thanks!

We don't have a Rexall here (small town Ontario) but we are close enough to a Sobey's or Metro that I will keep an eye on those. I even got the WestJet Mastercard - not the fancy one with the $99 companion flight, but the next level down, and already have $51 in WestJet $$!

My hope is to have at least one or two of the flights covered (even if flights aren't the best deal for miles)

I don't think that AM gave you the proper explanation. I've never had any thing but the proper percentage go into my cash miles side. The exception being when the math is uneven. In the case of say 1 AM(which can't be divided) it would go into the cash balance.

You should probably go into your account and double check that the setting is what you think it is.

Are you aware that you can lock the cash balance so that miles are not redeemed at the cash register? If you don't do that a cashier can redeem miles accidental and can not put them back.
