Early entry on first day of resort stay - check in first?

Hi guys,

We are visiting UO for 3 nights in the middle of a massive Disney holiday. I haven't done much research on the universal side of things and there was a question I wanted to clarify.

If we want to gain early entry into HP on the first day of your stay, do you have to go to the resort first to check it, or is there a way you can go to the park first? If you have to check in first, how early should I aim to get to Cabana Bay in order to still make early entry? This would be Tues 27 Oct if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

You have to check in first. The room key is what they use to let you in for early entry. Even if the room is not ready, they will issue the card so you can use early entry.

We've done this three times after staying at WDW. We checked out of WDW very early and drove immediately over to check in at HRH or RP. Then we hurried over and either made it to early entry or just after opening. FWIW - Staying at Universal will spoil you for WDW hotels; at least it did for us!
