Need Help tracking down a UK family who lost their camera

So we were heading into the magic kingdom a few days ago and I went to throw out a empty cup by the bus stops and found a camera laying on the ground beside the trash can. I looked through the pictures and discovered it belonged to a family from the UK because there is a picture of their car with license plate visible on the camera. It is a UK plate and the first 4 digits are GA15 which upon some research I determined could narrow down the area where they live somewhat. Its a pretty nice camera, a Canon Powershot S120 and has some family pictures on it. I figured that turning it in to the lost and found would have a limited chance of success in them actually getting it again and was wondering if anyone on here could help me locate these people so I can return their camera. Obviously I have many photos of them, and also their license plate, so I figured it was worth a shot. I was considering posting a photo on facebook of them hoping it would be shared and might reach them but I don't know anyone from the UK so the odds of that reaching the right people by me posting the photo would be pretty slim

oh I also tried to see if the photos that were taken in the UK had a geotag to find their location but unfortunately the S120 doesn't seem to geotag photos

This is going to be tough. The first two letters of the license plate indicate that the car was originally registered in Maidstone, Kent. The problem is that if the owner moved or the car was sold, the registration does not change so the owners could be anywhere in the UK.

well it looks like its a pretty new car, I thought the 15 indicated that it was registered in 2015 but maybe not.

Frankly, I think the best shot of getting it back to them is handing it in at lost and found. That's the first place I would check if I lost a camera.

Its a nice gesture and a real long shot as It could also be a hire car that dont belong to them! It could also belong to an American family that had phots of them when visting the UK in a hire car! If I left something at Magic Kingdom thats the first place I would phone and ask about it, they may have left their name and adress with lost and found there so I would hand it in to them, if you are still there!:goodvibes

yeah its certainly their car. Its in the driveway of a house and there are pictures of the back yard etc. The family looked like they were from Europe before I even saw the car confirming it. We left on Saturday, so there is no way to turn it in at this point.

As weird as it is I wonder if you could mail it to the police station in the area of where the license plate is registered and maybe they can find the owner?

Are there any photos on there of the family in the parks, we have a list on the boards of people who are posters on here and the date they went, again I know it's a long shot but if you could describe them and if there is a date stamp I could check it out.
If you want to go down the Facebook route I'm happy for you to select me as a friend, you can post a picture from the camera and I will share it on my timeline.
I'm moderator on here so very trustworthy! My name on Facebook is sue Webbley but let me know your Facebook name as I only accept friends requests from people I know.

I will work on that later tonight or tomorrow. I called Disney list and found but they wouldn't divulge any information and wanted me to mail it back. Screw that though I have had multiple issues with Disney list and found never getting items back to me that they said they had. He also said it's technically stolen property which is just ridiculous and rubbed me the wrong way especially after waiting on hold for 25 minutes just to try to see if the person had reported it lost

I have come to a dead end here on the boards, I have asked a few moderators and posters but to no avail, if you want to post something on facebook then I will share it for you and at least that way hundreds of people will see it.

I was also told that there is another UK Community Disney forum called The Dibb which you could try posting on as well.

Other than that I dont know what other options you have but to send it back to Disney. Good Luck Tom:goodvibes

Really should have left it in MK.

Are there any photos of their home town so you could narrow it down?

Wonder if they registered their camera with Canon. Maybe they have a database (pretty sure they won't give you the info though, but maybe).

I would do what the person in another post said and call the police and see if they can identify the people from the plates. I just had to call our local police station because someone was parked in our driveway right infront of our garage door (who does that?). Anyways the police could bring up the owners and called them and made them move it. You could then leave the police your info so the people could get in contact with you as I'm sure the police won't give you people's info.

Is it not possible for police to try find out who the car belongs to somehow

How strange, I live near Maidstone Kent lol. If you have the FULL number plate, just send/post to Kent police as lost and to returned to licence plate owner

Although the car was registered in Maidstone, Kent the car owner may live elsewhere haha but may be a local but the number plate alone won't give any details of the registered keeper only the police will track them down
