Marathon Weekend 2016

@IamTrike;
I am late to this conversation, and you know I am a relative newbie, but I vote with @FFigawi. IMHO you have put in the training, the time , the footwork, to run a goal... Go for the goal!! You can second guess til the cows come home... But the bottom line... If you don't go for it, put your training to the test... Will you really know what you could have done?
You and many others told me to trust my training,
Now I am encouraging you to do the same!!
Go for your goal, and believe in your training!!!

Your post made me chuckle to myself because it was so spot on. You're exactly right. If I was talking to anyone else I would be telling them if they put in all the work that they should trust their training. It's so much much harder to actually do than to talk about though....

I'm definitely guilty of the more serious pace talk this year. I've been pretty active on the boards since 2011 and this is the first time I've seen a lot of conversation like this. It's wierd because I am a big believer in the fact that running is an individual thing. It's a competition with self and not others. At the same time I've always felt kind of weird talking about worrying about improving times. This year I kind of felt that I would actually see how committed I was to the "individual thing" mindset and try and not be ashamed to voice my concerns and worries.
It's a safe space here! ;)

Above the neck, no fever and overall feeling okay (not run down and exhausted) - yay. Cough, fever, overall malaise - nay. Also if I start in the yay and after 5 mins of running feel worse I end it right there.

Works for me!!!

I ran my POT race last yea for ToT with a bad head cold. I went to bed and told myself as long as I wake up with no fever I'm running and I did. I not only finished with a way better time than expected but I felt great the rest of the day, partially because of the better than expected time I'm assuming.

Absolutely.
There will be signs outside for race weekend transportation - anyone can get on those buses. They're not checking anything.
You have to grab transportation from a host resort, but since all resorts are host resorts for Marathon, that's not an issue here.
(I'm at Pop too - maybe I'll see you at the bus stop!)

Thank you! Sounds like they were just trying to get us to book through them lol. Maybe I will see you at the bus! I'm overly excited for this full which is ridiculous because I am still new to running and probably jumped in too quickly ha!

I'm also guilty of getting wrapped up in pace talk too much. Since I'm still trying to figure out what I can do I tend to think I'm SO SLOW and way below everyone else. I have to remind myself it is individual. I just need to try and do better than I did before or finish. That's really what matters to me. Of course I say this today and tomorrow I'll be in a panic about how I can't run 10 minute miles ;)

As for the question about the AS Music suites. I haven't stayed at Music either. I have stayed at Sports and Pop though and agree with a previous post. They can be loud but if all you can afford for a particular trip to Disney is a value resort then they are great. I just can't speak to the amount of room the suite or anything, I am sorry. I bet you could find info on the resorts section. They have a thread for each hotel.

I just want to say how much I look forward to reading this thread. It is a great mix of helpful information and advice, stiring inspiration, laughter and personal challenge. I have enjoyed the tilt the conversation has taken towards the technical side of running. I have been trying to learn and I have been inspired. I am a beleiver in "putting your name on it". At work and with friends I have intentionally shared my goals and results, this has pushed me. However, I really appreciate that this site has allowed us to share goals and supported each other regardless of being elite, fast, average or slow (which is all just perspective anyway). Whether one of us is trying to BQ, or trying to complete a first 5K, we share those things and support each other. Awesome online community. Keep it coming I want to keep learning, laughing and being inspired! January can't get here soon enough.

I LOVE this attitude!!!!

Man, I go away for a couple days and this thread explodes....I LOVE IT!!

On the topic of Pacing, Negative Splits, ETC. As many have mentioned before running is a VERY personal sport and no matter what level you are just because something works for Person A does not necessarily mean that it will work for Person B. That is why you have to experiment and find out what works for you, for instance many people run better when the put a time goal in front of themselves but through my last few races I have come to the conclusion that for me its just the opposite I run much better when I am relaxed and just go with how I'm feeling and let the result come however it may. I love everyones opinions and advice and I think that what people need to do is just try different things in training and figure out what works best for you and then try to implement that on raceday

Gah! Forgot to thank you guys for all the tips!!! My toe was feeling better until it wasn't so I'm resting a few days.

Also saw someone prancersizing recently. Was it one of you guys?

I guess I need to apologize. I didn't mean to insinuate that people couldn't or shouldn't talk about the technical aspects (pacing, time, splits, etc.). As @Ariel484 said, this is a safe space, and as others have mentioned, it is all fascinating and great information and discussion. And as I've even said, I'm in awe of those of you who manage to run 26.2 miles at a speed that I couldn't run a 5K. It's awesome that we have all sorts of skills and abilities here on one board with mutual respect and support. My point, stated rather badly apparently, was that it was difficult to see people get down on themselves publicly for a particular pace, whatever that pace may be. Can you feel badly about a run? Absolutely, we're all going to have bad runs. Should you post about it? If it makes you feel better, yes! I'm not saying that people shouldn't post about whatever they want, my point was that for me, it was difficult and disheartening to read negative self-talk when as someone else mentioned (sorry, can't remember who) that we are all doing something that most people are afraid to do.

Also, I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned accommodations for marathon weekend, but I investigated the annual passholder discount for early 2016 on MDE and also called runDisney for rates. In looking at moderate resorts, runDisney was significantly higher than the AP discount - Caribbean Beach was average $182/night for AP versus $233/night rD for the same amount of nights (1/6 through 1/12) and same type of room, which I thought was interesting. I think that rD is pushing the "Stay, Play, and Dine" which I didn't need as an AP holder.

Good points! I don't want anyone to feel down or inadequate because their pace is not the same as the pace that other people here run, but sharing the highs and lows of training and racing is part of being a runner. This is a very supportive place and can help people realize they're not alone in working through the ups and downs of training. Plus, one might be able to get advice and ideas for how to deal with the issue or setback to help them improve going forward.

Yeah, for now the best rate possible for passholders is through Orbitz. You get the room discount plus the Orbitz discount.

So about two weeks ago I ran a half marathon with no problems, last night at crossfit I had to run a mile and I almost passed out. I felt dizzy and I was having trouble focusing. I'm not too worried about it because I've never had this problem but boy was it frustrating last night knowing that normally this is nothing for my body.
