If Disney World could get a scary event......

I have seen on youtube that Disneyland Paris had a scary event called Terrorific Night. So how come we don't have one here in the U.S.? So I have been thinking in the past few days, what if we could have a scary event in WDW? Magic Kingdom already have Not So Scary for all ages, Animal Kingdom certainly doesn't fit with the theme, we could do MGM but Universal already got a Halloween event at a movie themed park, so how about do it at EPCOT? Think about it, EPCOT is usually for older audience like MGM. So here how I imagine how to turn one of the happiest place on earths' parks into a horror freak show. For Future Wold, which it would be called Fright World, the EPCOT ball would be a giant harvest moon. Spaceship Earth will still be the same, no makeover. Mission Space would have something similar like Ghost Galaxy in Disneyland. Have the video completely different like they did to Star Tours 2. The orange side be scary and the green side be less scary. Figment would be a kid friendly Halloween makeover; the sound part would have Halloween sfx, the smell part would shoot out pumpkin spice scent, etc. Test Track ride will be the same except just add some Halloween lights display. The Wonder of Life would have a place for all ages to do Halloween activities. Caption EO would transform into a scary 4D experience. Universe of Energy would be EPCOT's ride biggest makeover, because it would be about the history of Halloween. Like the dinosaurs part, make it into the Underworld where monsters lives, then the video part show how Halloween started. Soarin, Living with the Land, Seas with Nemo are the only other Fright World's attraction that stays the same. Now for the main scary part of the park, World Showcase; a big scare fest. Before I get into the scary parts, World Showcase should have Halloween traditions around the world for the all ages like Christmas during the day. At night, on each country they would have a haunted house based on ghost stories and urban legends. The haunted houses would be located in the back where the parking lot, which is what would be transform into. They will have to build another whole parking lot somewhere else for the employees. Mexico and Norway ride will still be the same, and well as, the video shows. As for the front part of each country, have a small scare zone. France would have the fountain of blood, the lake would have green lights and fog rolling, and have a Halloween themed firework show. They still can do trick or treating if they want over at Fright World. Alright, so let me know what think about this Halloween themed EPCOT.

Disney is already taking in millions on the MK parties, which are very heavily attended. Epcot is needed to handle all of the guests who aren't going to those parties. On non party nights, MK is jammed with guests who haven't been able to do evening hours on the party nights, and Epcot is still needed to take the pressure off MK.

Disney isn't going to build a new parking lot just for a seasonal event. And they aren't going to build any guest experiences in back stage areas. There a reason why those areas are off limits to guests.

The suggestions you have made would require millions of dollars invested and would put multiple attractions down for an extended period to install and uninstall. And they couldn't be used for party nights only, but would have to be available to guests during the regular park day, for the most part. What you are describing are not family friendly, and families with young children would stay away in droves. Thats not what Disney does. There are also reasons why WDW doesn't do a lot of attraction overlays. I refer you to any of the threads discussing the NMBC/HM differences between DLR and WDW.

And finally, regarding World showcase, I would point out that not all cultures have a Halloween tradition. Those that currently do have often just imported it from the US.

The closest Disney will go in the scary department is probably the Villains event at DHS. And even that is fairly tame. They might even get it right some day.

I think Disney makes so much money from packing 'em into The Magic Kingdom for the Halloween party that they don't need to make the effort on anything else.

Why would Disney World want to try and copy a competitor when they have their own unique spin on Halloween which is working very well for them.

I agree with a PP, if you want a frightening event, go to Universal.

Is Paris still running the Terrorific Nights? I thought they stopped that after 2012 in favour of a more family friendly Halloween event (but I could well be wrong, maybe it was just a one year break? )

Yep. Terrorific Nights are a thing of the past.

Because we are offended by everything here someone would bring small kids get angry that their kids were scared and just down hill from there :rotfl2:

Quite frankly, OP, the makeovers you describe in your OP don't sound very creative, simply cost prohibitive.

Just like parents were stupid enough to bring kids into Alien Encounter, got scared, then got offended by it when they didn't read the warning sign saying it's too scary? I haven't ridden it, but my parents were smart enough to make me stay outside of the ride with my aunt and uncle.

I honestly do not think fear of people being offended is the reason. It simply does not fit with Disney'S target audience and general feel of the brand. They market themselves as a place for everyone..somewhere you can go with the kids or without but always have a good time. And as something more unique than run of the mill stuff.

It'S similar to how Walt would not have a classic old, run down haunted house in his parks and instead had the very unique, and more family friendly Haunted Mansion created. Horror just isn't part of the brand--creativity is.

"Horror just isn't part of the brand--creativity is." So you're saying my horror idea for EPCOT isn't creative?

Using your imagination is always a good thing. :) But what you're describing is a practical and financial impossibility. You're talking about tens of millions of dollars, possibly more, for new construction of haunted houses and a parking lot, replacement of ride videos and animatronics on existing rides. And extensive re-theming of existing attractions. They'd never, ever make the money back, let alone make a profit. In fact, it would be a money loser. Their typical park guests would be staying out of Epcot while this was going on. And they'd be relying on pulling in the same people who like Universal's HHN. But would those people pay to go to two very similar events?

In the end, NHDisneyLover is right. Disney has a very strong brand, that's been successful for more than half a century, and they're not going to go that far off-brand. You'll never see a fountain of blood anywhere on Disney property.

In fact I think Disney and Universal are very smart in how they approach Halloween. Universal goes for the teenagers and adults who want the scares, Disney goes for the families with kids, and adults who like a more whimsical Halloween experience. Instead of trying to grab each other's guests, they've divided up the market very efficiently.

That wouldn't work because Food and Wine is going on during that time frame at EPCOT and there is no way they would bump that for what you are describing.

I have noticed about that one and forgot to mentioned, though they could do that during the daytime and the horror at night. Just saying =]

Never in a million years.

F&W is a huge money maker for Disney. HUGE. And most of that money is made later in the day and at night. They aren't going to turn off that tap in favor of something that will have millions of dollars going down the drain for little or no return.
