Annual pass changes coming........

This should address your question -- will honor exact AP/price on postcard fo all existing passes in your family (per ticketing CM):
We've been AP holders for over two years. Our AP's expire in December and we were thinking about renewing. We've never received any postcards or reminders saying passes will expire. Do most people get AP reminders? :confused3

Not sure -- just relaying the information. I've never gotten them myself, but I also buy renewal carts well in advance (which you can do prior to 60 days). Bottom line, physical postcard in person is the only exception to get old prices.

So - that Passholders Perks site says that the listed perks expire on Dec. 31, 2015.

Sure wish they would post what the perks would be for 2016. I guess I can just bite the bullet and buy the Platinum and then just upgrade to a Premier Passport, but it kind of stinks that they're changing up APs this late in the year without announcing what 2016 perks will be.

Also, the person on chat told me that my Florida Resident Platinum AP will start the moment I purchase it, not the first time I use it. That can't be right, can it?

Yeah, it doesn't seem right that some will get grandfathered in and some wont, just because we got a postcard to remind us.

It only helps those that show up in person before 30 days after their current AP expires -- probably a very small number of people.

I bought an AP in July 2015 and plan to upgrade it to the new Platinum on my trip later this week to get the PP benefit. I have my husband and daughters in my Friends and Family so I know any photos they scan on their bands will show in my account and I can download them for free. Can I theoretically add all my friends that will be taking trips to WDW this year (not with me) and download all their pictures for free? Basically a year-long PP "share"? So anyone who has a friend with an AP would not have to buy the Memory Maker for $169? That seems like a big loophole. I think I must be missing something?

It's not right, assuming you don't buy it on Disney property.

DVC has nothing to do with how certificates are handled. A DVC certificate is processed exactly the same way as a non-DVC certificate (with the exception of associating the DVC number to the transaction). The difference is between non-renewals and renewals. A non-renewal certificate is simply activated by the computer, and the computer turns it into a current pass type. A renewal certificate is just money in the form of a certificate, the computer can't turn it into anything. Why, I have no idea.

Anyway - what pass you will have for the next year hinges on whether or not your renewal is 'live' or you have a renewal certificate. If your renewal is live you will have whatever pass you paid for when you renewed, because it was active before the changeover. If you renewed through Disney's website directly, and you don't have a little green card that came in the mail, you probably have a live renewal.

If you have a renewal certificate, it will be applied to your renewal to give you a pass on the new 'tier' system - if your renewal cert is for an Annual, you should be getting a Platinum, and you should not have to pay the difference. If you got a little green card in the mail, or through AAA, or somewhere else, that's a certificate.

I'm off to work right now, so if I find out any new information, I'll report back this afternoon.

All I have is a Will Call number from DVC Member Services so I know I have to go to a ticket window to supposedly be activated I just would really like to know type ticket to expect to be issued. I was not given the option of a certificate.

If you are buying a new AP for the first time over the phone/online, you are actually buying an AP certificate, which doesn't expire for like 15 years, and won't be activated until you visit GS in the park on your first visit. You can link the certificate to your MDE to book FP+, so it acts like an AP, but it doesn't actually start ticking until it's activated. If you buy an AP in person at GS in the parks, it will be active that day. On the other hand, if you are buying a renewal certificate (same deal -- over the phone or online), when you go to activate it, they will make it effective retroactively to your previous AP's expiration date.

We are AP holders and have not received any communication about renewals or the changes. With the current AP changes, I'm really not sure we will renew since we don't have any interest in the photo incentives. A PP wrote it might be time to explore new travel options and sadly we agree

Thanks!

I would like to see someone post that they are actually able to renew for the price on their postcard. If I make it to WDW by 10/26/15, I'm going to give it a try!

I get one every year, because I wait until the last minute to decide to renew or wait and get a new AP the next time I go.

We are in that boat. DS has the new Platinum. Dh and I don't need renewals until summer. I was able to pick out ds' magic band last night, online. However, the pictures we had taken by PP at Epcot last night are showing up in my photopass in MDE, but it wants to charge me $14.95/picture. It's been 24 hours now. I think I'll call in the morning to see if I needed to do something. His pass shows up in his profile on MDE, but it also says I can re-assign it?

Wow, I had to check to make sure I hadn't written this post and forgotten! Our situation is the exact same (right down to the DS and the renewals for DH & I). :) I called Monday and after a very long wait they logged in through my son's account, confirmed he had Platinum, and should have the downloads. Apparently the ability to re-assign is just a glitch - they assured me since it showed the expiry date was less than a year out that it had been activated and even if he transferred it that it wouldn't work for someone else since it's tied to his account & fingerprint (since he entered a park Sunday). As far as the downloads, they did research and called me back. They said that the problem was that the "entitlement" wasn't there for him and they'd have to open a ticket with IT to find out why. They told me I should hear back by the weekend so I will call on Friday for sure if I haven't heard from them. In the meantime, the CM was able to do a bulk download of all the pics into his account (so any pics that were already there he put into folders and downloaded into Photopass); however, I couldn't add borders or edit them or anything but could download them all onto my computer. We're AP holders so had pics in there going back nearly a year. But about 50% of the download (of hundreds of pics) were the stock photos which I then just deleted from my computer before saving the images. He did emphasize this was a one-time thing and that his new AP (son is technically a FL resident but military so lives in Boston but it was new, not a renewal) PP pics should begin on October 4 but that he was giving me all the old ones while they figured this out. I can update once I find anything out!

While on the phone for hours Monday I did ask this question since we had friends visiting Sunday as well. They also looked into this (ie the CM just didn't seem to make up an answer but went and checked on it). He told me that anything that was viewable on my son's account (the one with Platinum) he would be able to download. So if your friends link on MDE with you and click the box to allow you to see their pics then you will be able to download any for them. Just realize though that you'll either need to give them your log-in or you'll need to be the ones to add borders/edit, etc. If they edit on their account and then you download, you won't get what they did (just the original). Similarly, realize that adding a lot of friends will really bog down your account. We're local and have had lots of people visit (and took lots of pics). Now I'm on the point that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of pics on my account. (Although they say they go away after 45 days, when I go to PP in Epcot it still brings up ones from last December). Now that the window for AP holders is 365 days, there will be even more. Every time I do anything with the MB (try to get my free Chase Visa photo in Epcot, try to pull up my pre-order at BOG), it takes FOREVER to load as it has to pull up all those pics as part of the process. So while it sounds like you can do it, I'd probably limit it to good friends or as a minimum, once you've downloaded all their pics from a trip, delete them all from your account.

Sounds very similar. But for my son, they see he has a Platinum AP. Said that MDE isn't communicating with PP as it should. An IT ticket was also opened for us as well. Said I should get an email when it's corrected. Said it might take a few days, but not to worry because all the photos will get extended.

We never recieve anything, no Mickey Monitor, postcards....nada!!

1) The "letter of the law" is that they'll honor the rate on the postcard for the pass type listed on the postcard. If the postcard is for a Seasonal, they should renew your 2 Seasonal passes to Silver passes at the old Seasonal renewal rate. Whether or not they'll renew your Annual to one of the new pass types at the old renewal rate will depend on the leader/coordinator who handles your situation. I would explain the extenuating circumstances to them, including the fact that you never got passholder mail for anyone but the child.

Perhaps I missed this already so I apologize.

1--My renewal date is Nov 1st. Last week I got a postcard & a stuffed mailer about renewing (dug them out of the trash yesterday). There is no quoted price on the postcard (for example pay ABC to renew) only that I can save 15%. I have the FL resident no blackout dates AP (not the premium one). If none my mailers have an exact quoted price do I need to just renew at whatever new option/price I choose?

2--Also ??? about the new APs that come with the picture option...is that only so I can get the pictures electronically (to put on Facebook for example) or does Disney actually print them up for me if I order? Are they just the ride pictures or if I get pictures from a Character meet or in the parks from a CM will those pictures be included also?

Thank you!!!!!!

Sounds the same (they could also see my son's Platinum AP) - it is slightly comforting to know others are having the same problem and it's not just us. They also assured me as long as I could see the pics that were taken (which I can) that they'd be there for 365 days and it should be solved soon. Post if you hear anything (or call or get that email) and I'll do the same! (Feel free to PM me if that's easier!). I did start a separate thread about this on Monday but didn't sound like many other people had the same problem - guess we're just special! ;)

As far as #2 - it's so you can download them to your computer. They also provide a release to download so you get a good quality download that you could then print at Walgreens in whatever size you wanted or load onto FB or share via Photobucket - whatever you wanted. You can add borders, zoom in, change the size (so it would print better on a 8x10 with the border for example) before downloading. This is for any pic a photopass photographer takes - ride photos, character photos, standing in front of the castle - just get your MB scanned each time and it will show up in your account.
