Pre-reserving for non relatives

Has anyone done this? Any advice? Our travel agent seems a little vague on how we can get this to work.
This past May, we went on a cruise and during the trip we made two placeholder reservations. We would like, if at all possible, to use one placeholder for friends of ours who want to travel with us. How would this work, since they are not related and so we would want their cards/room to be in their name and their room cards to charge to their credit card?

(If it can't work, we're not out anything, as we are likely to take another cruise during this time period and still get the discount, but we'd like to get the discount for our friends.)

The primary person on the reservation has to stay the same. So you could book your friends into the cabins with you and still get the discount.

But you can't transfer one of the bookings to them. The only way to do that would have been to make the booking onboard with their information.

Actually, at least one person from the original booking(s) must remain. As long as OP is keeping their reservation, both reservations will get the perks.

OP, how did you book the two placeholders? What names are on each one?

My wife and I have multiple cruises currently booked, including a B2B in January. We would like to have a family cruise for our 40th anniversary in 2017. I know we could book 2 staterooms during each cruise to get the OBB benefits. Do one of us need to be on at least one of the two placeholders we would book each cruise? Or on cruise 1, could we book a room for my wife and I and another for daughter 1 and family. Next cruise book 2 more rooms, one for daughter 2 and another for daughter 3?

It's my understanding that you can make the reservation for whoever, not necessarily you. Only restrictions - 2 rooms on one future cruise per household, and at least one name on the future cruise reservation must remain the same. I'm unclear as to whether that means one name per each room, or one name for the two rooms that were booked at the same time.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me. :goodvibes

we did this. we booked a room for ourselves and one for #1 son and family on our first sailing. the person making the bookings knew what we wanted and was pretty much ready for us when we returned to her on the second leg of our sailing. we booked one room for #2 son and family then. our names were only on the first booking and not on the other two.
so yes, your scenario will work. have a great cruise, nice way to celebrate your 40th!

Each persons KTTW card is tied to their payment method. It's not set up by room. As previously said, one adult named on the original booking must remain on the reservation. Once you check in at port or on board you can change the KTTW to Room Access configuration and Disney doesn't care who sleeps where.

You made to separate placeholder bookings? Thought the limit was one future for one cruise.

Each address can book up to 2 rooms (2 placeholders) for 1 future cruise. That is, if there is a husband & wife (same address) in one room, they can book up to 2 reservations (rooms) for a future cruise. Or, if there are a parent & adult child (2 different addresses) in one room, they can book up to 4 rooms between them (2 each). Those 4 rooms can be on the same future cruise or 2 different future cruises.

Thanks. I misunderstood and thought it was two separate cruises. No two separate rooms. JW

We booked two placeholders on board last month. My husband and I are listed in one room and our caregiver and minor children in the other. They said it's not a problem to change out names if needed at some point if, for instance, our caregiver isn't available for the sailing we choose. (Or if we want to leave our grumpy children at home and take some slightly more appreciative children along. Lol!)

That is not entirely true. At least one person from the original reservation has to remain or it is considered a cancellation and the booking would be calculated at the current rate if you changed every name on one of the rooms.

You're probably right. I was obviously just kidding about not taking our kids. But, yes, the assumption was that it was the caregiver who might change.
