If I read it right the blackout dates are near Christmas and around easter and spring break. Since I have been in the parks near those dates I would never go back. As a person who also owns dvc for many years I worry more about the maintenance going up then the park ticket increase

"Overcrowding" is in the eye of the beholder.
I'd have to disagree with you on this point. I've been visiting WDW since 1978. I have been there over 30 times and have come at all different times of year. The parks are simply more crowded today than they have ever been before, and I think the attendance numbers back me up on this. Disney needs to do something to help manage the number of people passing through the gates. Dynamic pricing that we keep hearing about and surely is coming is part of this. I think the new AP pricing structure is one step in that direction.

I would guess that the podteam's APs are paid by the DIS as a business expense of the company which can be written of by the company (again, a guess). But it would be interesting to hear more real-life numbers from the perspective of a Florida resident not subsidized for business reasons.

I find this confusing.

Whether my annual pass is paid by job or by me...the increase still has to be paid.

Is an opinion on the price increase less relevant if someone else pays?

I had asked something similar to what Stacy asked. I did not mean that any opinion was not relevant if your business payed for an AP. Actualy I was looking forward to all opinions as a business and wondering how you would feel if you were strictly a visitor. If my question came out wrong I apologize, but this was what I was trying to get at.

I also read what I thought was an interesting post on the Theme parks board. Is is a thread about reaching your breaking point.....One woman posted that she reached her point this price increase, not so much that she can't afford it, but that she is just starting to feel "foolish" spending more and more for less in return. I am not sure why but her post sums up how I am starting to feel also.

Looking forward to hearing all opinions

No reason to apologize. :)

I'm just not sure why it matters who pays for an annual pass.

The increase still has to be paid.

As for "real life" numbers...the math doesn't change. The price increase is the same regardless of who pays for your pass.

I went to Epcot for F&W on Sunday strictly as a visitor and I have definite opinions that have nothing to do with my job.

I think so. There is continuing education I have to do for some of my certifications every year. My employer picks up the tab so I don't really care what the price is. If I had to pick up the tab I would care and might even skip the less important certifications.

I don't think the fact that your employer pays for your certifications negates you having an opinion on the cost of those certifications. I'm sure you still have a valid opinion about which ones are worth it, which ones are overpriced, etc.

I think the same goes for the podcast team. Even if the money isn't coming directly out of their own pockets, I'm still curious to hear their thoughts.

I think the question for the podcast team is more this: If you did not receive or require your AP for professional reasons, how would you feel about this increase and would it change whether or not you renewed your pass?

My guess is that you would feel different if you were married to one of the owners of the company.

I am both an owner and married to an owner. We both own shares in my company. I didn't mean to derail the discussion, I was just answering a question.

I doubt there will be a rant, but maybe there should be. In my opinion the reaction to this has been a little OTT, nobody likes price increases but people should try to calm down just a little bit. Then again I may feel differently about this if I was an annual pass holder but I'm not lucky enough to be one with living on the other side of the Atlantic.

If you get a chance to read some of the threads in the Theme Park Strategies section.................Wow! Sean91 if there isn't a rant.........there should be, you are abosolutely correct!

Doug

Totally understand that the cost of an annual pass, either borne by a company for business reasons or an individual for strictly personal enjoyment, still means a hit to someone's wallet. I was just wondering if we could get a general consensus from this fan community if this most recent increase has AP holders rethinking their APs. For those who go to WDW regularly for personal enjoyment, has this latest price hike made you decide against renewing this year?

I was hoping I would find somebody that agreed so thank you for that! Haha. I had a small look at those threads then decided it's probably best to leave the strategies section of the boards alone for the next week or two. It brings to mind what Pete was saying a while ago on one of the podcasts about people shouting and thumping their chests... Then proceeding to pay anyhow. I know if I was in the situation where I would be able to get enough use out off an AP, I would have one. This price increase wouldn't have me ecstatic but when you think about what you're getting for these tickets it is still outstanding value.

Just one more ... if I may be so bold, it would be interesting to see the results of a DisUnplugged poll asking this question. If you are a WDW AP holder, do you intend to renew your APs despite the price increase. Yes/No.

Ok.......the "No Rant" folks won..........I guess.o_O There was no indignation.......just the standard line about If you don't want to pay it........don't and then shut up! Pure Pete...........
While No Rant won...........the length of time on this news item was by far longer than any normal news item! BTW the team still feels TIW is a buy!!!

Way to go team.........love this podcast!:D

Doug :goofy:

Respectfully disagree Nikki. When I bought DVC I did so knowing that the only benefits I was entitled to are those stated in the sales documents. Basically, I was buying a room at WDW for the next 45 years. DVC does not have to offer us anything beyond that. They aren't penalizing us, they are just offering something extra that isn't quite as generous as before. Perhaps this is a glass half-full/half-empty kind of thing. Or maybe the glass is just the wrong size.

I'm with you on this one Jeff. In full disclosure I haven't been an AP holder for a couple years because of some old tickets we needed to use up and we don't go quite as often as we used to due to other travel commitments (poor me). I don't know if I'm not reading things right but it looks like as a DVC member I can pay the same as a Florida resident. If that is the case, what more can you ask for. As long as I can still get a discounted rate I think I'm fine with it. As you said, we bought real estate essentially and nothing more than that. I do wish there was an option slightly cheaper that didn't include photopass but I understand why they did that. Ultimately, they increased the pass for everyone and I don't think we got shafted any more than anyone else.
