Disneyworld 17 days after gallbladder surgery??

I am going but need advice from those who have experienced this. Will I want to keep my ADR's? Will I be able to ride the gentler rides?

The problem with gallbladder surgery is everyone reacts so differently. I and a friend had it out over a year ago and we always say that it must have 'grown back' because we both still have problems.

I had 5 small incisions and one bothered me for weeks and weeks and I probably would have only wanted to do the gentler rides for sure. But others I know had no problems with soreness at all.

To this day though, I have problems with (sorry if too much info but I want to help) diarrhea for no rhyme or reason.
So my advising you about your ADR's won't really help. I do know, however, I wouldn't go to Disney or any travel without Imodium, just in case. My Gastroenterologist said it is very common and taking Imodium as a precaution is a good idea as I just take it selectively.

I hope you are in the 'other group' that has no problems whatsoever ever again. Sorry if I've been no help.

I am a healthy person and had my gallbladder out post-pregnancy when i was 21. I thought I'd be discharged home to my 6 week old baby after a day in the hospital and the surgeon thought so too! What really happened was that there was a stone stuck in my bile duct, they had to go back in to get it out, I developed pancreatitis and then pneumonia, was in the hospital for 10 days then discharged only to be back that same night with 104 fever. All with my poor hubby on solo baby duty - he would get to the hospital at like 6am and the nurses would watch the baby or take her to the nursery so he could take a power nap! Two weeks post op I was discharged finally and recovered fine, though I was sore and weak for some time. So it sucks to say this, but you never know. My MIL had it out on Monday and was back to light duty work on the following Monday, feeling great. I too have some leftover GI issues and will second the Imodium but also a Zofran Rx, WDW is not the place you want to get nauseous. I'm hoping your surgery goes perfectly and

I also had my gallbladder removed 7 years ago, but I had full on exploratory surgery due to several other previous surgeries. They were unsure what they would find so they opened me up. Needless to say I was in the hospital 1 week, missed my DD 1st Birthday and was fairly sore for weeks and tender for months. I couldn't imagine trekking all throughout Disney. Hope yours is easy peazy, so you can enjoy you time there.

I wouldn't have had any trouble with food, but I absolutely would not have been in any condition to walk Disney or do rides, 17 days after surgery. I was in pain for about 2 weeks and completely uncomfortable for a while after. I had laparoscopic, but still, had tons of internal pain.

I agree with the other posters. There is really no way to know at this point. I work on a surgical floor and see gall bladder surgeries quite often. Some people recover very quickly, home within 24 hours (of course I can't say how quickly they recover after that point), others may be hospitalized over a week, a rare few even longer. There are a number of possible complications that could lengthen recovery time.
IF you have an uncomplicated surgery and recovery, I would still be very cautious with rides and excessive walking. I would keep your ADRs because you will probably appreciate the rest time during meals, just take it slow re-introducing fatty foods, etc. since you won't know what may or may not affect you at that point.
I hope you recover quickly and can still go on your trip and have a great time!

My surgery was 10 odd years ago... I was 7 and a half months pregnant at the time and was so so sick.. after a week in hospital I was sent home.. I Felt amazing.. I was eating and feeling so much better.. I had another week off work and then went back.. I work in a pre school. and that can almost be as tiring as Disneyland.. lol

I recover really fast and well from all my Ops.. depending on how you recover you should be ok.. I Would not do any of the slamming rides or G force rides.. but the gentle rides you should be ok on.. you might get tired more easily, so until you know take it easy..

I had mine out 9 years ago (in my late 20s, healthy and fit). I went on a trip with my husband and baby daughter to California (from Boston) about 3 weeks later. Not nearly as much walking as a WDW vacation. I mostly did fine, but my belly button incision did get infected. I'd suggest staying out of pools and hot tubs. I was lucky in that I had relatively few digestive complications. Just be really careful, walk slowly, and don't be afraid to go back and rest. In terms of ADRs, I agree with others that you can keep them, but be careful about what you're eating until you know what your body can handle.

I had mine out on a Thursday afternoon and went back to work on Monday. I can't say I was ready to run the Boston Marathon, but I got by. I do know other people who had a lot more trouble with theirs.

Thank you all for your kind replies. I had the surgery Tuesday with no complications as of now. I will take all the advice about rides, eating and Imodium. I probably will only do shows and watch my sweet grandson's face (20 months)as he sees WDW for the first time. And also to limit walking and stay out of pools and hot tubs which I have to anyway.

I hope you have a wonderful trip with your family.

I had no trouble & was back to work in less than a week. Strangely enough, the only time I ever felt any discomfort was when I was lying on my side in bed. I could move around all day & never feel a thing, but in bed it hurt. :confused3 It' s possible that you'll feel well enough to do a lot on your trip. Have fun!

I went 14 days after. It was fine except that I could not ride anything with lap restraints (in which you get thrown up against the restraint - haunted mansion OK, star tours nope)

Ask your Doctor, not the Dis!! I sure was not ready for a trip to Disney in 2 1/2 weeks! :worried: Everyone is different, as is each one's surgery - age, of course, is also a factor. No matter, as I'm the cautious type, would not want to be far from my Doctor at that point post op.

Like others have said it varies person to person. I actually felt better 1 week out than I did 2 weeks out. I definitely still had pain with one of the incisions several weeks out so thrill rides would probably have been out. And I had digestion issues for a couple of months and had to watch what I ate. Other people bounce right back within a week and never have any issues.

I'd just advise to take it easy and expect to possibly have to limit what you eat. Hope you have a great trip!

1) I, also, had gallbladder surgery, but with some MINOR complications.
2) I was fine that same day and went home without problems.
3) Never had a pain from the surgery, and didn't even use a single Tylenol.
4) However, I was advised to take it easy for 3-4 weeks.
5) This allowed my internals to heal and return to normal.
6) As for Disney
. . . we did have relatives down 2-weeks after my surgery.
. . . I rode with them on "tame" rides (eg. Splash Mountain, Pirates of Caribbean, monorails)
. . . did not ride anything with major movement (eg. Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, RnRC)
. . . had zero problems
7) The doctor said, Rule-of-Thumb
. . . if the body can get tossed around, so can your insides
. . . avoid such rides
. . . he wanted me to enjoy characters, and not become one
