Nikki & Travis' Disney Dream Cruise Wedding - 4/18/2016 -4/22/2016 - Dessert Party

Following! And I'm getting married two days before you, so yay April 2016 weddings! (I'm doing an at home wedding here in DC, but definitely still incorporating Disney elements.)

Your dress and colors are gorgeous! The mint and blue (I'd say cobalt is more modern and navy is more classic) are perfect for DCL and the geometic adds such a fun modern touch.

Also I totally understand where you're coming from on your future SIL's wedding timing. A friend in my main friend group who got engaged several months after me is having her weddings two weeks before me. I know some of the timing couldn't be helped, but I'm still annoyed that the weddings will be so close to each other. Plus, my maid of honor is also one of her bridesmaids, so it's hard not to want the weddings to be more spread out so we can each have our time. I'm trying not to be a bridezilla about it though.

Can't wait to see the engagement photos!

Thank You for following along!
And yay April 2016! Definitely a perfect time for weddings :goodvibes

I completely understand what you mean about not trying to be a brideszilla about that kind of stuff!
I never wanted to be one of those girls but it can be a frustrating situation when weddings fall so close together like that!
Especially, when it's a friend in your main friend group or close relative!
But I'm sure your day will be absolutely wonderful and unforgettable!
And you can always vent to me since I completely understand!

It only took a month but our engagement photos are finally ready to share!
Our photographer, Roxanne, was incredible!
The shoot was like 3 hours long and the pictures turned out fabulous!
Here are a few of my absolute favorite!

Most of the shots are pretty traditional shots.
But at the end of the shoot we had a bit more fun! :rainbow:

We had so much fun with this shoot and loved the ending results so much that we are thinking about doing another engagement session in the winter!

I'm sorry that the pictures are a bit big.
as soon as I altered the size, they didn't look as nice for some reason.
Hope you all like them as much as I do!

Gah! I feel like time has really been going fast!
Only 186 days until our sailing and 188 days until our Castaway Cay Wedding!

Thankfully things have been going smoothly with the planning process.
Don’t get me wrong, there is still a TON of stuff to do but it’s getting done at a good pace!
It’s all thanks to my amazing DF and bridesmaids!
They all have been absolutely incredible and getting things done fast whenever I ask for help.
And one of the things that’s been figured out and off my list of to-do’s is the Bridesmaids dresses!!

Finding the dresses was so much easier than I thought it would be which is so nice!
I made it a whole day event with my maid of honor and one of my bridesmaids.
My other bridesmaid, my sister-to-be, lives in Oklahoma so she obviously couldn’t attend.
And because she lives in a different state,
I made sure to go to stores that she could have easy access to.

So I had scheduled appointments at three different places, the bridal shop that I bought my wedding dress, Nordstrom’s bridal suite and David’s Bridal.

We first went to the bridal shop and we all liked this sparkly gown. The sample was in gold but it also came in a rose gold/copper color which I LOVED!!

I wasn’t completely sure the girls liked the dress though.
They said they loved it but I could tell something was off.
So we went to our Nordstrom appointment.

The experience we had at the Nordstrom Bridal Suite was fantastic!
I didn’t have a set idea or anything in mind going into it.
I just knew I wanted all the girls to feel comfortable and to love whatever they’re wearing.
So the consultants asked a few questions like the feel of the wedding, what the girls liked, what my dress looked like and went to work pulling dresses.

The first dress they tried on was one that I had been eyeing on the Nordstrom Website.
It’s a Adrianna Papell Beaded Chiffon Blouson Dress.

My Maid of Honor tried it on in the Taupe/Pink Color and my Bridesmaid tried on the blush color.
We weren’t fans of the blush color which is why I have no pictures of her in it but the taupe dress was beautiful! I didn’t see any pink in it so I’m not entirely sure why that’s the color name.
But the beading was so detailed and the geometric pattern made my heart skip! I mean, it went with theme!
Now the downside, I could completely tell the girls didn’t like them.
They kept saying they did but I knew they weren’t being honest and I wasn’t about to be that bride that made them wear something they didn’t feel good in! So we put that one in the “maybe” pile and continued to look.

After going through a few dresses that made me want to cry from how much I hated them (!) we finally got to a dress that made EVERYONE squeal! Even the other bride there trying on bridal gowns stopped and awwed!

The dress was the Aidan by Jenny Yoo.

The dress itself is so simple but the detail on the bodice is what really makes the dress special.
And the dress is a convertible dress so they can leave it as a strapless dress or tie it to have a whole different look. Here are the different ways you can change it up..

In the first picture My Maid of Honor has it on in the navy color and my bridesmaid has it on in evening blue. The colors during this phase didn’t matter, we were just trying them on to see the actual dress but we all loved the evening blue! It was a perfect color for Sarah’s skin tone! I actually really loved the navy color as well but I want Travis and the groomsmen to wear navy suits and didn’t want the bridesmaids to match them that closely.

And at this point if you’ve been following along on my planning journey you know I’m not a fan of tradition so I decided that I liked the idea of having the girls wear the same dress but in different colors or have the bridesmaids in evening blue and my maid of honor in a different color.
Obviously I still wanted them all to look good together so my maid of honor tried the charcoal color.
We all loved it! Again, it worked so great for her skin tone!

There was one thing that was missing from the dress that I really wanted though, SPARKLES!
What can I say? I love sparkles and really wanted to incorporate that into the dresses so the consultant ran and grabbed a sparkly belt that made the dress just what I wanted and I could tell the girls loved it!

Before we officially pulled the trigger and bought the dresses, I needed to make sure my sister-to-be liked the dress as well. I sent her a picture of the dress and she loved it! :jumping1:
Unfortunately, Oklahoma doesn’t have a Nordstrom so I went on a hunt to find a shop that carries the designer and the dress! Chelsea, my future sister, was awesome and called the shop I found right away and set up an appointment to try on the dress and see if she likes the evening blue color or if there’s another color she prefers.

Now the only thing I’m on the hunt for is to find the perfect belts for them!
I really liked the belts Nordstrom had but I want to try and find rose gold/copper belts that will go with my theme.

What do you guys think?
Do you like the dresses and do you have any suggestions of where I can find rose gold/copper belts?

Thank you for following along! :goodvibes

Thank you so much!!
She really did do a good job!
Now I just have to figure out where to display them lol

Oh my gosh, I LOVE these dresses! You have such great taste! The are simple and elegant and the belt has just the right amount of bling! Also love the girls having different colors to suit each of the girls. I am also not a fan of tradition for tradition's sake, so the girls are doing different styles in a same color for our wedding. Have you tried easy for the belts? They have a lot of great stuff!

And I love the idea of all the girls wearing different dresses!
I was actually thinking about doing that as well but all three of my girls liked the same dress so it worked out well this way.
And I haven't tried there but I'll look now!
thank you so much for your suggestion and being so sweet!!

I love the dresses you chose! It's such a universally flattering style.

Thank you so much!!
I was hoping to find something flattering and comfortable for all the girls!
That was my goal going into shopping and thankfully it worked out!

Love the bridesmaid dresses along with the belts. Maybe try Etsy? I know belts can get really expensive. they might be cheaper on etsy. Or a used bridal belt?

I love the dresses they look amazing! I really like the first one that your bridesmaids didn't like too much but the choices they all agreed on where great too! and I agree it needs sparkles and a nice belt will do the trick! I think a rose gold belt will be amazing Im just not sure where to look maybe david bridal?? Time is going to start flying by!

Thank You!! I've been looking at Etsy for possible belts and was able to find a few I liked that weren't terribly expensive! Hopefully they look nice in person!

Thank You!! I liked the first one too but I knew if the girls didn't feel comfortable in the dresses it would show in the pictures! I can only imagine the awkward fake smiles that would have lol! I did look at David's bridal for belts but they didn't have any rose gold or copper colors which was a bummer. I think I found a few on Etsy that are really pretty! I'm just scared to order them and have them look super cheap

OH Wow!! Love the girls dresses! Yes, agreed, they need some sparkle, it does make such a difference. You guys looked like you were having so much fun!

And your engagement pics are so cute! They turned out so good!

Thank you so much!! We really did have a fun time! I was worried it would be stressful but it was much easier than I thought!

And thank you again! I was so pleasantly surprised with how the pictures turned out!
We definitely want to do a winter engagement session next but we're waiting for snow!
It's need very uncharacteristically warm in Illinois this year!

Nikki, I'm all caught up on your journal! Congratulations! We are doing a Disney Dream cruise wedding in October, so it's so helpful to have so many active bride PJs!

First off, everything is gorgeous! Your invites are so cute and your dress is AMAZING!! So very cute! The bridesmaids dresses are all so great as well, all the girls look comfortable and ready to stun :)

Also, I have to say, I'm in Chicago too, so it's really fun to see an Illinois sister planning out her dream wedding. Congrats again and I can't wait to hear more as the big trip approaches!

Love the engagement pics especially the last one you posted. Amazing!
I really love the dresses you picked. Love the colour. For the copper/rose coloured belts check out BHLDN. They have belts in the colours you are looking for.
Good luck!
