Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE RESORT Information & Questions

No it is not. I've never had trouble with buses, and I've been staying there for years.
I don't remember them being this bad when we stayed here a couple of years ago but everyone I have talked to down here this week has had a bad experience. They must be having a very bad week! This is the absolute worst bus service I have ever had at Disney. Well over 30 minute waits every single day.

We only had that happen once a month ago. MK bus late 30 minutes. On a hddr ADR night too. You know how that is.

I've got a royal room, garden view booked. I see that it is a good idea to request being close to the foot bridge but which of the 2 buildings are better?

Again, I would just request to be close to the foot bridge rather than a specific building number. You could get the building number you want, but be on the opposite side from the footbridge.

Must have. I was just there in February and did not have that issue. Sometimes there was a bit of a wait at night, but no more than any other resort.

It's always better to ask for what you want. Then they can find what is best to suit your needs, among what is available.

Any recommendations for the lowest price room without a horribly long walk to the food court & bus stop?

The only category which relates to the actual position of the room, and being near to the main building and bus stop, is Preferred Location. All of the others relate to the view from the room (apart from King Bed). So the cheapest (and only) booking category which will ensure what you are asking for is 'Preferred' - although there are lots of other nice rooms of course, but no specific category will guarantee them.

Best to just ask for a room close to the foot bridge, as there are close rooms in both buildings, but also some that are further away. The VERY best rooms are in the northern wing of Parterre Place, but on average there are more good locations in Oak Manor. ("more good" sounds like awful grammar, but it's actually correct in this context. :) )

Doesn't sound good. Perhaps you could try doing what I do every trip these days, and type quick notes into my phone regarding every bus wait and trip time? That way you've got some objective timings, rather than just subjective comments which are easier to dismiss. For example, this was what I noted on my very worst bus wait during our two-week trip in August (it was a 14 minute wait, when leaving the MK after fireworks, although most of our other waits were a matter of a couple of minutes):

Code:
Tues 1st Sept 2015, MK to POR
Got to MK bus stop #28 at 22:55
Very long switchback queue, but three buses came in fairly quick succession. Got on a bus at 23:09
Depart MK at 23:11
Arr West 23:24
Arr North 23:26
Arr East 23:29
Arr South 23:32

You could also try calling 1-407-WDW-RIDE (1-407-939-7433) and see what they have to say.

I knew Andre would explain better than me! I suppose if you got a Royal Room, it would guarantee you weren't clear on the other end of the resort, but it won't be "close" to the main building.

Thanks for the number! Yesterday once I saw a third Epcot bus (actually had seen this driver. Meaning he had been to Epcot and all the way back) I stopped him and asked about a MK bus. I was at east depot and the only one there waiting on a MK bus. (There had also been no full buses just letting people off. Saw that the day before.) He told me I needed to call someone but not who to call. I'm over it now. We ended up barely making our dinner reservations, just missed our pre dinner fp, but I will call if it happens again. The other days have been half hour waits. Annoying, but I always allow for that in my schedule. I don't allow for 50 minute waits.

Just want to say we are here now and are having terrible luck with bus service! Waited over 45 minutes for a bus to the Magic Kingodm yesterday while 2 or 3 buses to every other park passed us by. We are now at Epcot and have been waiting almost a half hour. A bus came about 10 minutes ago labeled just port Orleans (almost empty) pulled to the animal kingdom lodge stop next to ours then told us he would only take guests to French Quarter, even though our stop is labeled for both resorts. I like the rooms and such at our resort but am considering changing my next stay to somewhere different. Is it consistantly like this?
I think it depends on the time of year. We had stayed there in early feb, wait times 10-20 min. Our next trip was in late September and wait times 30-45 mins. However, our third trip we stayed a CB in november and wait times very variable to magic kingdom, 10-60 mins.

Just a quick check back into say the boat to DTD was amazing tonight. The line was horribly long. One boat left and in less than 10 minutes two more boats pulled up. The boat captains are great!

I stayed at Riverside from 9/12-9/19 and I found the busses to be awful. I've stayed at many disney resorts for many trips over the years. We rarely saw a bus come under 30 minutes. It took an hour one day for the Typhoon Lagoon bus, we were at the stop at 9:30am and it was 10;30am before the bus got there. While waiting for AK, we saw 3 Epcot, 3 MK, 2 HS, 1 DTD bus. It was aggrevating. The boat to DTD was awesome though. When we switched to Yacht Club for our second week, 9/19-9/26 we found a huge improvement in busses.

Hi! I am hoping someone can help. I need to book an accessible room for a party of 5. POR shows a preferred room that sleeps 5 with 1 queen & 1 king. When I click on View Photos the description changes to 1 King & 1 Double. There is no mention of a murphy bed in the description or photos. Should I assume that since it will let me book that room that there is a murphy bed?

Well, all preferred rooms are in Alligator Bayou, and all Alligator Bayou rooms have a Murphy bed, so that room would have one.

Also, I believe that if you have 5 people, you automatically get AB, because you need the murphy bed. Andre can correct me if I'm wrong, but that is what I've always heard.

Just checked in!!! Though I am glad to be here I will share thoughts on why I most likely will not rebook next year.

None of my requests were met; top floor, corner room-via online check in, quiet location-noted on original reservation. I am on bottom floor not a corner room yet pretty close to road and I can hear the traffic, but I am sensitive to noise and would be worse off closer to pool. Check in took at least half an hour dispite doing online check in (second time this has happened to me here). This time they said my reservation had been dropped and rebooked so they had to find it. Which could explain why none of my requests were met and by then I just wanted in a room. The room is dirtier (housekeeping) than I've noticed in past stays. None of this would really bother me except I just moved from POP where all requests had been met, I had direct to room check in, and the room was spotless. I used to work housekeeping and I know this is just a specific housekeeper and probably not the entire resort (I am in AB bldg 35) That said I wipe down all hotel rooms when I check in and at Pop I saw hardly any dirt on my rags and here they came up very brown. Also trash from previous guest is in the trash can.

Now I know this is just an instance of personal preferences really, and having just come from such a great stay at POP might be a bit soured with this current experience at POR. I want to emphasize again I am still glad overall to be here now. The beds are better and it is bigger. My last three stays have been split stays starting at one of the All Stars (hitting parks hard) ending here at POR (relaxing by the pool) and I always loved it so much so I shortened my first stay to add more nights here. I forgot how much nicer POP is than the All Stars though. Unfortunately the cards weren't in my favor and I just felt the need to post here.

I felt the same way this trip! We left today. I had better luck the last two days but there was a mob scene this morning at the south depot waiting over 45 minutes for a bus to Epcot. I just didn't catch the bad park my last 2 days. Yesterday morning was animal kingdom. I am staying at French Quarter in December and am praying it's better. I got such a good deal it's too late to swap resorts!

Hello everyone, we just booked our second trip to wdw(March 18-24) and we are staying in the riverview rooms at POR. Stayed here last time we came and fell in live with it. Just a couple questions. We stayed in the mansions last time we came and would like to try the AB section this time. So how do we go about getting a AB room? Check in early? Request it when we get there? Just wanted to see what they were like, and if there was a way to get one if you have river view rooms?

Although all of the regular Alligator Bayou rooms have the pull-down bed to allow them to accommodate five people, there is a complication with the fully Wheelchair Accessible Rooms. Because the bathroom layout was reconfigured to provide a single enlarged wet-room area containing the tub or roll-in shower, a single washbasin, and the accessible toilet, the rooms lost the storage area usually allocated for the hanging clothes rail. This meant that a wardrobe/armoire needed to be placed within the main bedroom area, which did not leave enough space for the bench seat and the fold-down bed. Also the main queen beds are spaced slightly further apart to allow getting a wheelchair between them. I've got some more info and photos at www.portorleans.org/rooms-accessible.php.

Thus there are technically no Wheelchair Accessible Rooms that sleep five. That's not to say that they can't help though, as just because a guest uses a wheelchair that should not prohibit them from having the same occupancy options as other guests, but the facility is fairly limited and it needs to be set up in advance. You should be able to use the website to make the accessible booking for five, but I would suggest you call and confirm the details directly just to make sure the option has been allocated correctly.

The only way to absolutely guarantee an Alligator Bayou room is to book Preferred (which would not give you a river view) but there are also lots of nice River View rooms in those same bayou buildings (14 and 27) plus more in building 38 which you could request. Ask the Reservation Center folks to add your request to the booking, but then send a fax 3-5 days before you arrive re-confirming what you'd like.
