I am planning a surprise for my hubby when he gets home next year, by planning a vow renewal for us. I really want to convince him we are going signature dining, then, boom! Friends show up and flowers appear and we say, "I still do!"
I am B. He is J. We have been married 20 years. We disneymooned at Wilderness lodge, and had a great week. We have been back four times over the years with our extended family, both sides, just not together. Last trip in 2014 when he swore never again. But when asked what I wanted more than anything, it was of course to return to see the Mouse. He agreed if it was just us.
I am just dreaming of this right now, and can't wait to start actual planning! It will be in June 2016.
Hope you'll follow along and give me great advice on the way.
Here we are from the last trip, showing our sappy sides.

I'd have to pack for him and I am thinking of having him dress in khaki chino-type shorts, and a white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up. Should I add a tie? I don't want him to feel uncomfortable.

For me, I want to feel beautiful but comfortable. I'm thinking of a blush pink or ivory dress. Summery, but dressy enough to go out in. Here's some of my favorites so far, mostly from google...

That is so cool! Love that you are going to surprise him with it. DO you have any idea where you want to do this?
Love the dress you choose. It is so pretty and I love blush or ivory dresses. I think surprising your husband with an outfit is going to be harder. Why don't you tell him that you booked a fancy restaurant with a dress code. Help him choose an outfit he would like and that will fit him well that way you will be sure he is happy with it. I know my man is picky and hard to shop for. Sometime what looks good on a picture, does not look good on my husband. I learned this from experience.:sad2:

So I am waffling between a room at AKL or Poly. I may rent dvc points, if anyone has had a good experience doing that I would love to hear about it. Either way, I am thinking an ivory dress would go better with the resort color scheme. Which then takes my blush pink and navy away. So now I need to go back and figure out a new color scheme. Choices, choices.

I just rented DVC points for my next trip in March for a studio at the Polynesian Villas and Bungalows for the last 3 nights of my trip. I'm actually doing a split stay starting with POFQ for the first 6 nights of my trip and then ending with the Poly. We love POFQ for its small size and boat ride to DTD but wanted to treat ourselves to a Deluxe resort. I worked with this amazing DVC owner. She was quick, professional, and easy to rent from. I was a little intimidated at first by the whole process but once I started looking and contacting people it was easy as pie. Seriously, I saved so much money, it is totally worth it! My suggestion is to start by looking by looking at the DVC rental boards and reading up on the process. Once you familiarize yourself you can calculate how many points you need and start shopping around for the best price per point. Make sure you check out the DVC member.I looked for one who was a long standing DISer and had many posts and had rented points before. You can also ask for references.

I stayed at the Polynesian with my husband a few years ago for our 10 year wedding anniversary and we fell in love with the place. It is the most romantic resort in all of WDW in my opinion. The sunrise and sunsets there are spectacular, the grounds are beautiful. There are tiki torches lining the pathways at night and they create such a romantic atmosphere. You can watch the nightly water parades and fireworks from the beach or from your room. You can grab drinks at Trader's Sam. You have great onsite restaurants and you have access to the monorail and boat to MK. You are a short walk away to the Grand Floridian and I took advantage of their gym and spa which is fabulous. You can also take the monorail to some of the other hotels signature restaurants like V&A, Narcosses, California Grill, etc. The rooms are huge and have lots of space. Check out this link if you want to read my anniversary trip report: http://www.disboards.com/threads/2-...10-year-wedding-anniversary-in-style.3177687/

I love AKL too for its beautiful African inspired lobby and the stunning Savana views with animals roaming in your backyard. The onsite restaurants are all amazing but the biggest downer is the shoddy bus service and the distance to the other parks. But it is a personal decision. It also a lot cheaper than the Paly so if money is a factor for you than AKL sounds great.

No matter what you choose it will amazing. Follow your heart!

Oh my goodness, I've been bit by the bug now. I spend hours on pinterest, etsy, and google images looking at dresses, flowers, invites/announcements...I'm driving myself crazy. A small, intimate, vow renewal. I need to reign myself in!

I really jumped in now. Since orange and yellow flowers are out right now, I took my coupons to Michaels and got a bunch of different things to play with. I figure I can make a nice table arrangement for the dining room, while deciding which ones I like. Two for one!

What a sweet idea! I'm horrible with secrets/surprises and wonder at those who can pull them off. I love your ideas so far! :D

Thank you for reading along. It is going to be so hard for me to keep it quiet. I already want to tell him. These are some single flowers I picked up, and one inspiration bouquet.

What a sweet idea for a surprise VR! I like all of your ideas so far. As far as color schemes, I am very partial to blush pink and navy since those were our wedding colors ;), but there are a lot of combinations that would look great at the AKL or Poly.

Thank you. I'd like navy, but I don't want gold and blue (our college colors) and I think I need to use orange and gold/yellow for best look. Then again, who am I trying to please this time around? my mom has passed, and we aren't telling his folks when we are going!

Alexsandra I just read through your trip report. Looks like some good food! I plan on hopping over to your blog after our trip this weekend.
I've been pinning and googling the fall bouquets every lunch hour. I didn't realize how many navy and pink things I already liked.
I'm leaning toward AKL, the Poly looks amazing, I just want that savannah view room...and having stayed at the CR with theme park view before, I'm not sure I'd be happy unless I was in one of the new villas at Poly.

Just for fun, I thought I would include our story. We met in college. Short story.

Just kidding! For those who want to read more, here’s how it happened.

J was in ROTC and getting a physical therapy/education degree and I was working on my Masters in Applied Social Research. My work-study position was a teaching assistant for two great professors, one in the Social Research dept doing the usual proctoring, grading, recording, etc and the other was in the physical education dept assisting in a folk dance class. J had a roommate that was in that PE class, who cajoled him into taking the “easy A” and needing more PE credits for his major, he agreed. That roommate and I were friends.

I was teaching one type of dance and J was a student in that class. He was very good friends with the instructors son. As a TA, I needed a good review, so I never thought of correcting the teachers’ son – or J by association. They were quite the class clowns. I actually have been quoted as saying that J was obnoxious. As I tended to just ignore those guys, J is quoted as saying that I was stuck up. On our first night’s performance I asked the roommate for a ride, as I did not have a car at University. The roommate said sure, and when I went to get in the car – I found out that roommate and J had also decided to ride together and roommate climbed in back seat leaving me sitting next to J and sharing 4 feet of breathing space. I felt I had to be nice and talk to both of them. That is probably the first time J and I ever spoke to each other.

I hung out with roommate a bit between classes when I was on that side of campus, and saw more and more of J. I would sometimes see him in his fatigues for ROTC, and thought it was nice he was planning on going into the military to serve. We would talk friendly enough, but not really more beyond hey or how’s such and such class going. One night, I was with roommate getting ready to hit the town when J walked through in his fancy dress uniform for the ROTC Ball. Wowza! He looked great, and I said something along the lines of, if your date get hits by a bus, call me. We all kind of laughed it off and went out our separate ways.

About ten o’clock I get a phone call. I pick up and J is on the phone, he says, did you mean what you said earlier? I said, mean what? My date got hit by a bus, want to go see a movie or something? I may or may not have said who is this. We talked it out and I agreed to go hang out with him for an hour or so and get the story. I hung up and went frantically running through the dormitory to my best friends’ Laura’s room and begged her to go along with me. I didn’t really know J all that well and I was not going out alone with him. Little did I know, J felt the same way and was draggin one of his best friends’ Sean out the door at the same time. The four of us met at the dorm lounge and headed out to BW3 (what it was called then). We ate, talked, and laughed a lot. Headed back to the dorm, said see ya later, and parted ways.

J talked to me in class that week, and we started talking more as I was hanging out with roommate between classes until I was mostly exclusively talking to J. We went to the movies a couple of times and a couple of the bars by campus with groups of friends. Our talks sometimes got serious about what we were looking for in life and the future. J going in the military had a pretty good plan, I sort of wanted a certain job, and was tired of just playing around. By April we were a thing, meaning we decided to only date each other, and we tested that over the summer when we lived in two different parts of the state. It lasted, and I went to work while J finished his last year of University.

Later I will share the engagement story….and just maybe scare up a picture from that time frame

We had a great anniversary trip with lots of good food! I am happy you enjoyed my TR.
Love your bouquet colors. So pretty! I love fall bouquets. I think the flowers you chose are really beautiful. It will make a great bouquet.

I know what you mean about those Savannah views. It is pretty spectacular to wake up to that everyday. Follow your heart. Either way, you can't go wrong. They are both spectacular resorts. AKL has amazing restaurants too. :lovestruc

LOve the story on how you met! How sweet!

Love your choices for the bouquet.

Hot pink and navy were mine! :D

I'm hoping this weekend i get to play with my flowers. I bought about six other things too, some other flowers and sparkling things, and some ribbon to wrap it. I just can't hardly keep myself from telling him about when he calls!

I've been so busy with the kids and getting ready for Halloween I haven't had time to read any updates this week. I have an hour of down time and I'm taking it all for me! Flowers will have to wait

Ok. I interrupt the love story to say, no matter how long I play with my flowers, I don't like the colors. Wahhhhhhh. I really want to stay at AKL. I want things to be affordable. I hate orange and yellow. I don't even care for the navy and pink now.
Sigh. I think I have the winter blues early this year. Color ideas anyone?

I have been looking at pink and ice blue, not loving it. Pink and light teal, its ok. Peach and turquoise, pretty, buy not sure its for me. Sigh. How about some inspiration photos?
