Mom & Son Going Back with Dad + 1 - 10/3 - Rose & Crown and now Complete!

I've had so much fun reading your report! The chefs table @ FF & your Epcot snacks!!! Yay! I've taken notes for must trys. ::yes:: Also....those sleepy hollow:hmghost: ice cream cookie sandwiches are one of my favorite things on the planet!!! Simple, perfection.

We spent our last day in EPCOT before we had catch the dreaded "Magical dEpress" back to the airport.h After spending some time in Future World together, A&J went for one last TT and MS ride with DH and I headed to the World Showcase to soak in some last Disney magic. I was hungry but didn't want to ruin our lunch so we shared a cronut and an iced tea ...

This was my first time trying a cronut and thought it was really good. Light and airy inside, not heavy like a donut. We did some last minute shopping before meeting up for our last meal of the trip ... Rose & Crown.

The menu -

We shared two scotch eggs and I think 3 of us got the potato leek soup ...

Both were good but not as good as on past visits. The soup tasty more 'floury' the creamy. It was still good but definitely different. The scotch egg was still very good but portion sizes seem to continue to decrease.

DS and I had both had the previous breakfast burger and it was one of my favorite burgers ever. Even though the burger had changed, I decided to give it a try

This was just Ok for me. I ate it with a knife and fork as it was a bit messy to pick up.

I should have had what I usually get -- the bangers and mash. DH had that

I had a bite. I was as tasty as I remember.

Julia had the Cornation Chicken ...

I did not try this but she seemed to enjoy it. Andrew was super hungry so was fine with the soup and some scotch egg.

We did share dessert though .... The Sticky Toffee Pudding

And warm chocolate bread pudding with sauce anglaise

Both were good but I actually think I liked the bread pudding a bit better. The warm cake with the warm custard was very comforting.

Overall a good meal but not as good as past meals.

And after our meal it was time to head over to the Boardwalk to catch a cab back to AOA for our trip to the airport. Sadly, our trip was over.

Overall DS and I felt that some of the non-signature restaurants dropped a bit from what we remembered. Not bad, but not as good as on previous trips. I hope that isn't a sign of things to come. In March, we are hoping to try several of the new restaurants and experiences (Morimotos, Jocks Hanger Bar, Garden Grill breakfast and maybe the Narcoossee's brunch). And I am very happy to say I was lucky enough to get an ADR to Dine with an Imagineer. I cannot wait to share that experience with DS. And I am hoping that the Skippers Cantina will be open in the MK. It will be a shorter trip for us ... arrival late Friday night and departure early Thursday morning so 5 full days that must include a day to enjoy the Flower & Garden food booths. We'll see how much else we can fit in!

As for favorites, DS's was hand's down Artist Point followed by La Hacienda.

Julia wouldn't pick a favorite saying she loved it all.

Jay and I both couldn't pick anything other than Flying Fish as #1 and HBD DwAI as #1a. Setting those aside, Jay enjoyed Rose & Crown more than I and I really enjoyed our meal at Bongos. Course if you ask me another day, I may say La Hacienda. And we all enjoyed Snacking around EPCOT.

But so many things I had planned for us to do and try were still left undone. *sigh* How quickly time flies when in WDW!

So ... until Mom & Son get to go back, that's a wrap!

I'm getting caught up here and now it's over! I also hope the general decline in the quality of the dining for most noon-signatures isn't a sign of the new normal. Darn if it's not bad enough to pay $16+ for a burger at most sit downs and not really enjoy it.

I'm in agreement with you about the CA Grill bread. Bring back the old sourdough - it was perfect! Sorry you weren't feeling so well for that meal. I'm a fan of the pork dish so I hope they haven't messed with that to make it just meh now.

Snacking around Epcot is definitely something that I'm looking forward to doing one day with no ADR plans. I'm glad you mentioned the China potstickers and egg rolls since those have not been on my radar but are a nice departure from anything you can get in that park.

After seeing the R&C menu I'm a little nervous about the entrees. We are booked there for a CP package for lunch. If it wasn't the package, I'd be fine with an app and dessert but since it includes an entree I just don't see anything that stands out. Maybe I'll try your oft ordered bangers and mash.

Sorry to see your trip end but March isn't that far away!

Awww man!! I have been thinking of the pot roast one. It is such a great idea, you think they would execute it better.

I am not a fan of WDW's mac & cheese in general so it could just be me. The macaroni was just a bit mushy for me and I thought the mac&cheese just generally lacked flavor for me. If you want to try it, go for it!

All caught up now! I am sorry you started to not feel well. It does sound like the appetizers at CG are the way to go, FF Chefs Table looked amazing and I am intrigued by the chocolate wine. I love snacking around World Showcase and you made some great choices! :thumbsup2

Thanks! I was so sick by the time we got home ... ended up at the doctor on Monday! Not a great way to end a fantastic trip!

The chefs table was really great. I wish it was something I could do every trip! I cannot believe this was my first time trying those ice cream sandwiches! The perfect end of day snack!

When is your trip? It's been a while, yes?

I have always really enjoyed R&C and hope we just had an off day. Nothing was bad, it just didn't live up to our previous trips.

This was Andrew's first time trying the new pork dish. He loved the old version and said this one just didn't 'wow' him. I sampled yours on our trip and thought it was good so again, maybe an off night - for either the restaurant or Andrew! :p

With him being away at school, March seems like a really long time away! I know you know just how I feel! :(

Sorry you didn't go out on a great food note, though those scotch eggs and dessert look divine. Totally agree on the general decline of some of the restaurants. We still have some favorite non signature places, but they are definitely getting harder to find.

Sounds like things are already shaping up nicely for your March trip. Can't wait to eat along with you and your son again

Awe I am sad your review is over but was so happy to be along for your dining adventures! I agree 100% about a decline in some of the dining. I saw that first hand this week! Happy planning for March :)

Its not actually a good thing but I am glad DS and I weren't the only ones that noticed the decline. Maybe with all the new restaurants opening the trend will reverse.

When is your trip? It's been a while, yes? Yes, too long, a year. We'll be back at Thanksgiving for 18 days. Em and her hubby are traveling with us. I'm just a little excited about that.

I have always really enjoyed R&C and hope we just had an off day. Nothing was bad, it just didn't live up to our previous trips. I get that. The last time I ordered the Scotch egg at R&C it just wasn't hot and fresh so not as good as I remembered it being when I was with you.

I can imagine.... you want the time to go fast until March but then you want it to stand still when you are enjoying your time with your kid.

Happy planning for the next trip!

I wasn't planning on dining at Rose & Crown on my upcoming trip but after seeing Jay's bangers & mash and your chocolate bread pudding dessert, I am now looking at my dining schedule again.

Anyway, congrats on completing another great dining report! I'm glad we won't have to wait very long before the next one. :thumbsup2

Exactly! 18 days! Wow! I really, really enjoyed this trip with our "plus 1". You will have a blast! I hope you are going to share some of the details with us!!

Seems a long way off but I guess you are right! I will have to enjoy your report(s) while waiting for mine to get here! And I have to say, I wouldn't change your plans to add R&C. I don't know that we will go back in March and it has been an every trip place for us.

awesome write up. glad you folks had a great time! great pictures, i overall enjoyed reading your posts from beginning to end

Well. I'm so happy you have got another trip planned soon!!! :simba::figment::ccat::goofy::donald::dumbo: So I get to read more DRs!!!

Hi, GoofySon'sMom !

I'm late to the party here, but I wanted to say that I really enjoyed all of your reviews ! Thanks for taking the time to post such great pics.

Going back to your original post, though, I have to ask if you would mind explaining what was so awful about your meal at BoG that made you switch to The Plaza instead ? We've yet to eat there, so I'm curious...

Thanks !

Thank you for the kind words. I wanted to post a link to my prior review of BoG but can't seem to figure out how on the new forum. We went on an AP preview night before the restaurant was actually open. On that night, the French onion soup was somewhat watery and tasteless. The potato leek was cold when served to us and had a weird texture although I didn't mind the taste. I had the charcuterie plate as my entrée and it was actually pretty good. DS had the pork chop with macaroni and cheese and it was truly awful. The macaroni was very mushy and absolutely tasteless. The green beans were water soaked like they had been sitting in water for hours and also tasteless. The pork chop was extremely salty and we like salt. The "sauce" was greasy again with very little flavor. It was possibly the worst meal either of us have ever had. I told the waitress that it was inedible and she made a comment about DS having being a 'child' and not appreciating the food. He was 16 and eaten sushi and buffalo earlier in the trip. Not that that matters, she was out of line. She did ask a manager and have the charge removed from the bill.

We did go for lunch on our next trip and we found both soups much better and enjoyed both the turkey and roast beef sandwiches. I would go back for lunch. May give breakfast a try next trip. Mostly because I love the theming of the restaurant. Just not quite ready to go back for dinner.

That said, there have been fabulous reviews (and some not so fabulous) over the past couple of years. I firmly believe everyone should try a restaurant at least once and make their own decision. Most people of these boards love Boma and we have been unimpressed with both breakfast and dinner. But we loved Sanaa. So to each his own.

^ Thanks for the reply...

I'm sorry you had to experience what sounds like a truly dreadful meal in such an otherwise happy place.

BoG does indeed get a lot of mixed reviews. It sounds like they started out great, but maybe what has happened is since the place stays so incredibly packed ALL of the time the "suits" at Disney have decided to let the quality of food slide downhill. Sadly, we know this has happened many times before. (The Wave in the Contemporary comes to mind)

Still, this won't stop us from eventually going... (I'm dying just to SEE the inside of the place :tilt: ) We'll just have to hope for the best.

Thanks again...

I agree that the restaurant is beautiful. We may try breakfast next trip. Sure it seems overpriced but we wouldn't do lunch that day so its justified.

Sorry to see that your report is over, I must say I really enjoyed it! :)

Thank you so much!!
