From ZERO to HERO - The October 2015 W.I.S.H. Challenge

Hi all! I am a 14 year old girl from Tampa. I have struggled from being overweight my whole life. I am done with it and a restarting my plan.

October 1st: My goal is to lose 5 pounds by the end of the month. I plan to do this by doing at least 90 active minutes every day and controlling my diet. By controlling, I mean just watching portion sizes and making healthier choices.

QOTW: I have no weekend plans. I am going to be as active as possible this weekend.

QOTD: My motivation for joining this challenge was realizing that, as a cheerleader, my spot is not secure. Competing is my dream. I want to do this for myself also. My motivation stems from counting down to my Disney trip. I want to be the hottest beach babe in Blizzard Beach. As for people helping me stay motivated, I might do well with having someone PM me every few days. I have a puberty brain! I have so much going on that a simple reminder would help tremendously.

QOTW: I generally pack all kinds of snacks and my scale/any weight loss/food/exercise journals I have. As for road trip essentials, we only have a 2 hour drive so I normally just listen to the radio take a nap.

I am a broken record...I have way overcommitted myself for the months of Oct/Nov...I'm hoping I can participate and then I can barely keep my head above water...thinking of you all. I'll be back soon!!

Not a good day today for me. But I still need to brag about yesterday, which was a great day! I did get out for my 6k race. And it went great! I got a time of 38 minutes, 17 seconds! I was hoping for anything under 45 minutes and was really pleased with myself that I was able to stay under 40 minutes and feel great while running.

I got a picture of me crossing the finish line from the race:

photo_1.jpg

And that is me in the after race zone with an alcohol free beer:

IMG_1704.jpg

The race is the large city run which a big sport store here sponsors. You don't get bibs, but really nice shirts and you are required to wear the shirt as proof of registration (and it makes for great publicity pictures for the store to have crowds dressed in their signature orange). And alcohol free beer is a after race standard here in Germany. Every race I have taken part in has a stand by a brewery handing it out for free to the runners. It is always great and refreshing!!

Great race!!! I hope the day got better!

Prayers needed............ My Mom and Bermuda-travel-buddy twisted her ankle BADLY last night! She was in the ER for a few hours..... no fracture seen on x-ray, but she is in an aircast and pretty much immobile at the moment. She is DETERMINED to make this trip and will do EVERYTHING in her powers to get this ankle healed up in the next 11 days..... ice, rest, elevation, epsom salt soaks, extra vitamins.... whatever it takes!! Any suggestions (other than extreme prayer??)?? This was going to be a VERY ACTIVE trip.... lots of walking, hiking, snorkeling... but obviously that will NOT happen unless this ankle heals quickly!

Also............ for anyone here on the East coast of the US, I'm sure you are aware of Hurricane Joaquin..... and the path has changed so it is really going to give Bermuda quite a wallop! So MORE PRAYERS for DD and her classmates and the people of Bermuda needed and appreciated!

Oh no! I hope that ankle starts feeling better soon. Good news that it doesn't seem to be a fracture but it sounds like you might have a bit more beach time than planned. I broke my ankle just before the 4th of July and was in an air cast for about six weeks. My orthopedist found me one with a waterproof liner so I could still swim. Saved my summer! If she needs to remain casted, it is definitely worth looking into.

Sending lots of prayers your daughter's way.

Are you in the States? I've heard good things about the Optimum Nutrition whey protein powders BUT I've never tried them myself, as I get mine in bulk from a Canadian website. I'm not a huge fan of protein shakes, I'd much rather mix protein into meals (usually yogurt, oatmeal, baking, etc). When I do have a shake, typically I'll use a scoop of chocolate protein powder (~120cal), a tsp of cocoa powder (~20cal), a banana (~90cal), 1/2c 1% milk (55cal) and a serving of peanut butter (~90cal). Just be careful with shakes, the calories add up quickly and you can easily blow through the amount of calories you've burned off!

If you want quick food I will never not push Quest protein bars- they're expensive but I could eat them all day every day. Check the ingredients, though, they use some weird sugar alcohols (?) to keep the amount of carbs down.

That's so amazing! Congratulations!

Great job finishing! That beer looks pretty tasty!

Make sure she takes it very easy on that ankle. I sprained mine a few years back (I slipped on the TINIEST patch of ice known to man), went to work for a few days- I'm on my feet most of the day- and it never healed properly. The boot and rest are the best thing you can do, and take it day by day on vacation. Fingers crossed for her and that your trip goes smoothly.

Also, love that picture. And hey, it may be pizza but it's appropriate portion sizes!

Party went well last night, I didn't go crazy eating or drinking so I feel pretty good this morning. There's still a ton of junk food in the house, though, so that's burning a hole in my willpower. ;) I'm about to start meal prep, so that should keep me too busy to snack!

Here's the menu for today:
Pumpkin pie and chocolate mocha pancakes (these are new recipes. I am nervous)
Pumpkin pie oatmeal (huge can of pumpkin puree needs to be used up ;))
Veggie Lasagna
Ricotta gnocchi with tomato cream sauce
Casserole with quinoa, broccoli and cheddar
Lentil meatloaf
Apple crisp to send over to my parents if there's time

Love the week's meal plan! Lots of that sounds very delicious. :)

I had a nice 5 mile run this morning ... I ran for an hour, and got in 5.09 miles. This was my first time doing 5 miles in under an hour since early July, so it was definitely nice. I've also done 2/3rds of my physical therapy stretches for the day, and I'll decide after lunch if I want to do my exercises (I don't always do my PT exercises on run days). Plus, I haven't been snacking much today, so it's been a good day so far. I know it's only one day, but ... I'll take it! My goal for the month is to take things one day at a time, so 1 good day is all I can ask for at a time!

Glad the knee seems to be mending!

We woke up with a heart attack this morning as we saw the price increases for the Premier Pass. We are set to upgrade next month and now it's over $1525 with taxes. Yuck.

We've been weighing the cost / benefit analysis all morning. What a bummer.

Yikes!!! Disney price inflation continues to amaze me and not in a good way.

Keep swimming. :)

What are your essential must-pack items for a trip to Disney World and/or Disneyland? Do you take along anything that most people probably wouldn't think to take?
We are driving, too, so feel free to include any helpful roadtrip necessities! Must-play music? Life-changing iPhone apps (like GasBuddy!)? Snacks?

If you Google "Ultimate Disney Packing List", you'll find some very comprehensive lists that you can then tailor to your own needs. My must- packs include comfortable walking shoes, moleskin in case of blisters, my Disney water bottle cabineer/ clip, and a copy of all my plans/ reservations/ confirmation numbers.

Following my WW plan - including tracking. For me, tracking is most important in wt loss. When I don't track, I find that I'm taking more "tastes, licks, and bites" than I realize. Today, I stocked up on fresh veggies and have them incorporated into my meal plan for the week.

So much to read and catch up on, just from this weekend! I'm inspired by you all - the big and small successes, the struggles, the victories - thanks for sharing!

Your THREE PART QOTD for Friday, October 2, 2015

1 - WHAT was your motivation for getting started on this journey, or joining the thread this month?
2 - HOW will you, as a participant, try to keep yourself motivated this month? Visually, with pictures or a "pounds to go" jar or a graph? Audibly, with an "Eye of the Tiger" type get-up-and-get-moving theme music? Which, by the way, if that's what you'll do, PLEASE tell me what song you pick! Tangibly, with rewards along the way?

3 - HOW can we as a group, and I as a host, help keep you motivated throughout the month? Thought provoking questions? Daily PM's? Buddy systems? Sending little happies in the mail or electronically when you hit 100%?

I thought I finally should tackle this question, even if it is Monday already!!

1) My original motivation for weight loss was t "fit in". But over the years I have learned to be far more happier with who I am and am less concerned with what others think about me. I no longer am very much concerned about my weight as such. I think I could be prettier if I were thinner, but I don't feel ugly. I even started wearing bikinis despite not having a perfect body. I just find them more comfortable than one piece swim suits. As long as the essentials are covered, I see no point in wearing anything that is uncomfortable. I think I have gained a lot of self confidence from running. Just knowing that I make a more or less regular effort to stay fit and that I also try to eat healthy, gives me the feeling that as long as I am working on being healthier, no one else has the right to critcize me. In reality most people I know work far less than me for being fit and healthy. So, my motivation has changed. Now it is no longer about what others might think of me, but I am doing this purely for myself. I know I feel better when I weigh less. I love being able to go into a clothes store and not having an issue with finding something that fits properly. I like how long trips on a plane or a train become far more pleasant because I have more personal space because my body takes up less space. I enjoy being able to walk up several flights of stairs without getting out of breath. That is what I am working for.

2) I am not good at rewards, I even often struggle with set goals. My best motivator is to try to just take every day as it is and try to give my best every single day. I find this thread to be an incredible motivational tool. It is a place where I can go and vent if things don't go well.

3) I love how chatty this group is! One thing that I love to read about is other people's success stories. I always find it so motivating to hear when other people have something good to report. I don't mean to say that the participants should only write about good things! That's definitely not my intention. I just want to encourage everyone to share their little victories!

---

Happy Monday everyone! Especially to the newcomers! Great to see even more new faces signing up!

I got over my grumpy day yesterday. The weekend was not really good eating wise despite my great success at the race. But I am counting on today being back on track! Had a healthy lunch and breakast already. But then ended up with an unnecessary snack. But dinner tonight will be squash soup, so low calorie. The snack should not put me over the daily goal. And I am planning to go for a run later today. Was at work early, so that I can leave early in order to be able to run during daylight. I am so sad that it is already so dark in the morning, so running in the mornings is no longer as nice as it was in July when I started to get into a habit of morning exercise.

Morning all! Happy Monday! Good news..... DD is awake and doing well and they all made it safely through Hurricane Joaquin! They spent the night in the library. Apparently as of now, the main building has power (not sure if that is real power or via a generator), but the dorms do not..... but she has a hot breakfast on the horizon and the morning off from classes, so all is good.

I'm off to work today and will probably have time to catch up with the chatter from there hopefully! Decided NOT to work the second job tonight.... life is just TOO SHORT to work every night. Especially since I feel like I am NEVER seeing DS any more..... tonight will be a FAMILY DINNER AT THE TABLE night! No excuses!

Great job following the plan and stocking up on the produce!

@JacknSally - I thought of more thing I always pack: a selection of ziplock baggies. Useful for any number of things - sorting coins, wrapping up snacks or leftovers, corralling makeup, protecting phones and cameras on water rides, storing swimsuits if you swim on the last day.

---------

Well, I'm off to a busy Monday! Healthy breakfast done and a few good snacks tucked into my bag. Catered luncheon today so unfortunately not too much choice over what I get. Hopefully the planner ordered something other than sandwiches. And got a fruit plate instead of just cookies.

SO MUCH CHATTER! So much catching up to do!! SO sorry I didn't make it back around this weekend to be more involved - it ended up being a lot crazier (and not a good crazy!) than ever anticipated... Saturday's bachelorette party did not go well... Sunday we found out that some of the wedding things that had been delegated to others were not even started and the odds of them getting finished in time for the wedding were <1%, so we spent the day adding those things BACK onto our list and trying to figure what of our already-cut-down-to-the-bones list of plans could be cut... Sigh. 19 more days 'til Disney! I will catch up to everyone today and get our week 1 progress report posted!! Can't wait to see how everyone did!

Good Monday morning, everyone! I hope everyone's weeks are off to a great start! Mine has been interesting. Went to bed sick, woke up with a migraine, running a little behind because we cleaned so all of my go-to clothes have disappeared, and I go to start my car and NOTHING... and, of course, DH2B is already halfway to work. Most likely (hoping beyond hope) it's just the battery, and thankfully my parents gifted me a portable/emergency car charger for Christmas a couple of years ago....... but, of course, it hasn't been charged in ages. :scared: So it looks like I'm home for the day. Less than ideal as we're implementing a new procedure at work today, I'm off for two weeks in two weeks, and it will end up shorting me on my next paycheck since all of my PTO is scheduled for wedding and honeymoon... But I also know that I NEED the extra day off - for my nerves, my sanity, and my projects. Plus my pup is pretty stoked to have mommy home with him. Here's hoping the rest of the week goes more smoothly than this!

QOTD for Monday, October 5, 2015

Personally, I feel like it's harder to stay on track on the weekends than through the week. With work Monday-Friday, I have a schedule that doesn't really fluctuate much, and it's easy to have my routine and stick with it for the most part. But weekends are a free-for-all of errands, projects, snacks, and take-out.

So let's take a look at our first October weekends! How did you do? Were there any roadblocks or speed bumps along the way? If so, were they things you have to deal with every weekend, in which case you need to come up with a new way of attacking that - such as always having to run errands on Saturday which means you usually swing through Starbucks or the McD's drive through at some point during the day, so maybe you should make up some overnight oats or a sandwich Friday evening? Or was it just a one-time special occasion, such as a birthday dinner, or unexpected rain making you miss your evening walk, and you feel like the rest of your weekends will go as originally planned? If you didn't stick to your plan - DON'T FRET. Today is a new day and it's a new week. :) If you did stick to your plan - YAY! Keep it up!! :cheer2:

Thanks! No, just lousy weather, sore muscles from yesterday and the arrival of that time of the month all combined. Tomorrow will be better! :goodvibes

Glad it is nothing more serious! Hope your week turns around!

Thanks for the good thoughts! She is already packed so hopefully she can really rest and lay low for the next 9 days!!

Also, love that picture. And hey, it may be pizza but it's appropriate portion sizes!

Congratulations on joining a GREAT group!! And welcome!! Five pounds is a solid do-able goal for the month!! I was also a cheerleader (back in the dark ages of the 80's and I LOVED it!) and it certainly is a great way to stay super active!

I am a broken record...I have way overcommitted myself for the months of Oct/Nov...I'm hoping I can participate and then I can barely keep my head above water...thinking of you all. I'll be back soon!!

Been there, done that, could write the CLIF notes for it!! We all understand...... so for now, don't worry about lengthy replies.... just pop on whenever you can and report in!! Just let us be a life raft to HELP YOU keep that head above water!!

Well.... probably a bit behind again, since I had to delay in getting this post finished and uploaded, but I have a bit of time now to finish the chatter.....P

Congratulations on the upcoming anniversary! Freezer burned top cake is always worth the points. :)

Thank you!

Good morning!!! Please excuse the unpolished feet but I am so excited!!!!

Just Plain Overweight!!!!!

Congrats! That's a lot of hard work and a great feeling :)

QOTD for Monday, October 5, 2015

I did not stick to my plan this weekend. Saturday I spent the whole day out with my SIL and BIL at a fall festival and then DH and I had evening plans with some friends. The good news is that I mostly resisted all the carnival food (just a couple bites of funnel cake). We didn't have dinner made so stopped by McDonald's so I ate a grilled chicken sandwich without the bun. But I also ate fries :sad2:

Yesterday, my mom made a buffet of delicious game day food. I did better than I normally do but still ate A LOT more than I had originally planned. Fortunately, I plan on kicking it at the gym this week and still have some WPP left. Next weekend I'll be celebrating my anniversary so it'll be another weekend of food. It's pretty frustrating and yet no one is forcing me to eat. So I guess I'm just frustrated with my lack of self control?

But yay to a new week!

So let's take a look at our first October weekends! How did you do? Were there any roadblocks or speed bumps along the way?

First off, I'm way behind in reading all of the posts but will try to catch up as soon as I have a spare moment.

How did I do this weekend? Good in some regards, bad in others. I did great in the activity category. My DD got up at 6:00 on Saturday morning (what!) so I was on the go all day. I was able to get 45 minutes of step aerobics. Then I did laundry, cleaned and played with her all day. I ended up with almost 25,000 steps on my fitbit. Similarly, we were up early yesterday and I got in another 45 minutes of step activity and then was on the go all day. I was at just over 20,000 steps for Sunday. I was pleased with activity. On the other hand, I was not so pleased with my eating habits. I did make a lightened up tuna salad and chicken chili but my friend had stopped by last week and brought cheesecake and I ended up eating some of the leftovers! Ugh. I don't know what it is about rainy weekends and being at home but it makes me want to eat, even when I'm not hungry. That is a constant battle for me. The thoughtless eating. It's a killer. I must get better! I didn't look at the scale after Saturday morning and I'm not going to until check in day so I'm hoping that cheesecake didn't derail me. Focus time!

Sounds like you have a good week planned and ready to be fully back on track! I haven't made squash soup in a while..... time to pull out that recipe again!!

No excuses!

TTYL>............................P

Thanks for everyone's good thoughts and prayers for DD and her classmates.... and all the Bermuda people!!

Well.... when I told DH that tonight was a FAMILY DINNER at 6pm, no excuses....he had an excuse. He has an appointment with his trainer at 5:30. And since DS needs to be back at school for 6:45 for Quiz Bowl practice, there goes that idea. So change of plans.... I will pick up DS after school and head into town to buy the supplies for his Halloween costume (he wants it done before I leave for Bermuda..... but no promises!) and then buy him and I dinner out somewhere (probably Subway or Chipotle) and then drive back here to drop him off at the high school for 6:45. Kind of kills the idea of having a productive night at home (making soup, roasting veggies for later in the week, etc), but it will work out.

So happy to hear that your daughter and her classmates are safe!!

THANKS!
---------

Well, I'm off to a busy Monday! Healthy breakfast done and a few good snacks tucked into my bag. Catered luncheon today so unfortunately not too much choice over what I get. Hopefully the planner ordered something other than sandwiches. And got a fruit plate instead of just cookies.

Fingers crossed for a GORGEOUS fruit platter and NO cookies in sight!!!

SOOOOO sorry that people seem to keep letting you down! I don't understand people sometimes! This is SUCH AN IMPORTANT day! Why offer to help with something if you are just going to drop the ball???? And on that note..... PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let me know if you need help with coaching this month.... even if you ask last min!!ute, that's okay! You have so much on your plate right now!!

Well.... I don't want to break the Disboard rules about religious talk, but I will say that it sounds like you got some DIVINE INTERVENTION working for you today!! You definitely could USE a day off to get stuff done, destress a bit, and just take a DEEP BREATH! Hopefully you will be able to get SO MUCH STUFF DONE!! Prayers that it is JUST a battery issue!

:cheer2:

Well, this weekend was unusual for us with DMIL's birthday celebration. But many times in the nicer weather, my biggest speed bump is MYSELF! I know we work outside a LOT and if I don't have something firmly planned or even in the crockpot, I arrive inside at 5 pm or 6 pm or even 7 pm exhausted, starving, dirty, and just NOT mentally ready to prepare a full meal. Sometimes I do fall back on sandwich night.... but most of the time I push through and make something for dinner. I am GREAT at meal planning for M-F, but I often fall away from it on the weekends.

I know that perhaps it sounds like I have amazing willpower or determination when I NEVER mention running out for McD's or ordering Dominoes, but remember I live way out in the boondocks and there is NOTHING of the sort around here! We do have a local pizza/sub shop (8 mile drive) that has a pretty standard menu..... I can get a salad in an emergency, but they are nothing special. We have had a Dunkin Donuts here for about 6 years or so, but again, it is 10 miles away (in the opposite direction of the pizza shop) and it just isn't a decent meal replacement option for us. We had a Subway open here last year (also about 10 miles away, same area as the Dunkins), but it makes me cringe to spend close to $18 on just an "adequate" meal for the three of us (6" sub for me, footlong sub for DS and chopped salad with double meat for DH) , not counting any chips or drinks or extras! If we are going to have sandwiches, I can manage that at home!m Believe me, there are days I would give ANYTHING to have take-out just 5 minutes away!!!!

*****************

Phew! Caught up.... and just in time. I have another student to test in 18 minutes and I need a bathroom break!! And fingers crossed that I at least get time for a 10 minute walk outside at some point today! It is chilly, but sunny...............P

Here goes nothing!

Ok, haven't had the time to catch up on my reading. This is a chatty group! :chat:, but I thought I would put in an intro as I get caught up.

I am Carla Rae. I have been on the weightloss rollercoaster for pretty much forever. I was doing great, eating well and running every week and racing a half marathon or other race at least once a month. Then I broke my hip, a stress fracture caused by all the running. I gained weight while I was out and didn't mange to lose it when I got back into racing. Early 2014, I was injured again (two burn spurs) and had to defer all of my spring races. Not being able to walk much, let alone run, more weight came along. In May of last year I got pregnant with my twins and the high risk pregnancy came with a "no running" warning. So I haven't had a good run in 22 months and gained a lot because of a lack of exercise and a lack of motivation to eat right since the twins were born and that whole pesky twin pregnancy didn't do anything good for my figure! I am doing the dark side challenge (10k and half marathon) at WDW in April and I have 3 other half marathons and a 5k in the spring so far (deferred for the past two years because of injury and pregnancy). So there is a definite motivation to get back to running, however I have having minor surgery next week and when I mentioned to the doc about getting back to running, he said "at least a week or two" without any type of exercise. :( So my goal was supposed to be to increase my milage, but without being able to run, thats not exactly promising. lol. So I don't have a goal as such. I will think of one. I just figured checking in here will help me stay on track.

Welcome, welcome, welcome @Raenstoirm! I hope we can help you get to where you want to be, even despite your impending surgery and recovery. I know your big focus currently is getting back into running condition, but are there dietary changes you could focus on during your "no exercise" period that would also help get you back to that point?

Just Plain Overweight!!!!!

YAYYYY!!!!
:banana::banana::cheer2::cheer2::jumping1::jumping1::jumping3::jumping2::jumping3::Pinkbounc:dance3::cool1::cool1::dancer::dancer::dancer:

"Great" is an understatement!! That's fanastic!!! So, so proud of and excited for you! Congratulations!

We woke up with a heart attack this morning as we saw the price increases for the Premier Pass. We are set to upgrade next month and now it's over $1525 with taxes. Yuck.

We've been weighing the cost / benefit analysis all morning. What a bummer.

I was just talking to DH2B about the new prices yesterday. I haven't actually seen the prices yet, per sé, but I heard there is a new annual pass option that includes the Memory Maker package at no additional cost? I haven't done any research on the ins-and-outs and fine print and prices along with any of it, largely because AP's just aren't practical for us any time soon... But depending on the bottom dollar, that pass may be a heck of a deal! So sorry that you're looking at such a large, unexpected chunk. Especially near the holidays! :sad2:

Good morning, and welcome! 5-lbs is completely do-able, especially with as active as you probably are. Just be careful with your diet plans - at your age and with your (assumed) activity levels, you definitely don't want to undercut your nutrients and calories! Obviously I do not know your health history or weight (or have any medical expertise myself!), but keep in mind that your body will naturally do some of the work for you over the next few years. Also, not trying to belittle anything by anymeans, but "overweight" means different things at different points of your life - I have been "overweight" my whole life, but I would give ANYTHING to be "overweight" like I was in highschool vs. "overweight" like I am now :rotfl:. There's an e-card somewhere that says "I would give anything to be as skinny as I was when I thought I was fat." and boy is that true for me and my teenage/college years. By no means was I the smallest person around, but I was much smaller than I am now. ANYWAY. I say all that to say this - only YOU know yourself, but definitely please don't kill yourself or go to any extremes to lose weight. Focus instead on being healthy, and the other stuff will come with it. We are here to help! :goodvibes

SO GLAD she is good and safe, and sending all good vibes that it stays that way. Will any parts of the storm or its aftermath on any areas affect your trip in any way? I saw pictures last night of the flooding in South Carolina, and oh my goodness.

@JacknSally - I thought of more thing I always pack: a selection of ziplock baggies. Useful for any number of things - sorting coins, wrapping up snacks or leftovers, corralling makeup, protecting phones and cameras on water rides, storing swimsuits if you swim on the last day.

Well, I'm off to a busy Monday! Healthy breakfast done and a few good snacks tucked into my bag. Catered luncheon today so unfortunately not too much choice over what I get. Hopefully the planner ordered something other than sandwiches. And got a fruit plate instead of just cookies.

YES! I had DH2B buy extra ziplocs at Kroger the other day, and he thought I was crazy because we have plenty at the house for our every-day-Ziploc-usage. He'll thank me in the end, though, when we find little odds-and-ends that we forgot to pack up, or his smelly socks need to be confined away from the rest of the clothes in the suitcase. :rotfl:

Hoping you have a yummy yummy healthy free lunch today!!

I. Love. Game-day food. We aren't sports people, but for NYE or for the Tony awards, we'll have "crap night", where we just get a ton of the frozen appetizer-y foods (like taquitos and pizza rolls and bbq chicken bites) and pig out on the spread while watching the show on TV.... :scared1: on the calories, but oh so good.

Focus time!

You've got this! Don't beat yourself up too much over the cheesecake. As long as it wasn't a whole one, or some of one every day, or several times a day, it won't wreck you! Just don't let it be that first slippery slope step. :goodvibes

Well.... when I told DH that tonight was a FAMILY DINNER at 6pm, no excuses....he had an excuse. He has an appointment with his trainer at 5:30. And since DS needs to be back at school for 6:45 for Quiz Bowl practice, there goes that idea. So change of plans.... Kind of kills the idea of having a productive night at home (making soup, roasting veggies for later in the week, etc), but it will work out.

Thank you for your kind words and empathy! They didn't carry over in the quote, but honestly it's more helpful than you know to just once have someone NOT say "I don't see what the issue is. I mean, [insert project delegated or new item added to the list or new unexpected roadblock here] isn't really that big a deal, is it? Can't you just figure out something else?" :furious::furious::furious: Yes, of course, MIL-to-be, you're right that all of the centerpieces that you begged and begged me to let you do, which are really the only decorations we're having in the room at all, are really not that big a deal and we can EASILY come up with a new plan for 21-centerpieces, 2 weeks out, on a less than miniscule budget. :rotfl: How early in the day is too early for a glass of wine?

But I do agree about the D.I. this morning.. All day yesterday I toyed with the idea of calling in sick to work, even though I hate to do it, and don't even call in when I AM sick unless it's something bad... Then my car wouldn't start and I almost immediately thought "Well, someone must KNOW that I don't need to go to work today". :littleangel:

So sorry your Monday night family dinner isn't coming together after all! Hopefully you and DS will have a good mother-son dinner instead, though, and DH will just have to suffer knowing he's missing out on Chipotle! I can't justify Subway, either. If I want a sandwich, why spend $6 minimum when I have bread, meat, and cheese at home, and this will end up unsatisfying because it will be drowning in toppings and be more bread that anything else anyway? But, we are in the minority, as the number of Subway storefronts in my area makes it look like it's all anyone in town eats. :confused3

I think I'm caught up! I will do another read through in a while and see what I missed, because I am SURE there is something, and I will get the chart updated today, too. Bonus day for anyone who didn't get their updates posted this weekend, or who saw a better number today than they did on Saturday or Sunday! My delay means you can still submit if you'd like. ;) Off to see what projects I can get through!

I haven't had time to update in a few days, so here's the past few days all in one go :bounce:

QOTD for Friday, October 2, 2015

1. I need to lose weight for my health, but my actual motivation is to be able to ride ALL the rides at WDW and UO. I was unable to ride the Dragon Challenge at UO last year, and that will NOT be happening next year! And to wear the cute Disney/Marvel/Star Wars clothes they don't make in my sizes. :D
2. I'm keeping myself motivated by TELLING people I'm working towards losing weight. This makes me feel more accountable.
3. Little electronic happies are always a good reward, but I think the questions are going to be my biggest help from you wonderful people!

QOTW for October 3 & 4, 2015
What are your essential must-pack items for a trip to Disney World and/or Disneyland? Do you take along anything that most people probably wouldn't think to take?
We are driving, too, so feel free to include any helpful roadtrip necessities! Must-play music? Life-changing iPhone apps (like GasBuddy!)? Snacks?

Don't forget to report your progress this weekend, if you haven't already!!
:goodvibes

I take my 3B cream any time I'll be walking in shorts! It helps prevent chaffing and is a LIFE SAVER! I also always have some form of antacid, because they are SUPER expensive to buy on the road. But who knows, maybe after I lose this weight, I won't need these items anymore! :flower1:
Sunscreen, because my pasty white skin burns so easily.
Breakfast/protein bars, instead of spending money on sugary breakfasts at the resorts or park.
I also always make sure I have my favorite water bottle (so I don't keep buuying soda!).

I listen to Disney music 90% of the trip to WDW, and recommend taking a Disney movie (or 5!) to increase the excitement! (As if that is really needed!)

As for apps, I don't have any specifically helpful ones other than WDW experience. But my tip for this (though it's probably out there quite a bit) is to turn your phone to airplane mode and use the WDW wifi. This helps save your battery. I never dipped below 40% battery life, even on our 20 hour MK day, which featured LOTS of pictures and WDW Experience checking :)

My roadblock this weekend was visiting family. I live 6 hours from my family and 6 hours from DBf's family, and we do not get a lot of time off, so we take off to visit whenever we get the chance. We finagled a whole week off to visit both families, and are currently on leg 2 :) The biggest issue with these trips is that everyone wants to eat out and go to the bar (which results in fast food or pizza after). This was definitely not a normal weekend, so hopefully this won't be an issue most of the time!

Phew, all done! :faint:

UGH. This weekend was rough. It was jammed packed with stuff to do with the kids and my husband was out of town, so I was on my own to accomplish it all. In additional I had unexpected overnight guests Saturday which meant getting the house ready after being neglected all last week due to how busy I was. So, I ended up with fast food for lunch Saturday and Sunday. On the plus side, I realized, as much as I grew up loving fast food, I really don't like it at all anymore. I actually couldn't finish my chicken sandwich from McDonalds yesterday the chicken was so gross. I almost always have healthy fast options prepped at home. My DS(9) has several food allergies, and fast food is not an easy option for us. But he was up for the few choices we had this weekend, probably because it had been so long since we'd had it, and I took advantage of the convenience. So eating wise, the weekend was awful. On top of that, with DH out of town I had no one to watch the kids while I went for a run (Saturdays overnight guests left too early). So exercise was also lacking from what I normally do.

In short, weekends are always a challenge, but I usually set myself and my family up for success by being sure I have good food options ready to go as we enter the weekend, and this weekend I was just too busy both heading into the weekend and as it progressed. Lesson learned and I will be sure to be better about it in 3 weeks when DH heads out of town again.

On the plus side, the scale moved for a first time in a while. Not much, .3 pounds, but I will take it! And sorry I have been MIA so much, I am just WAAAAY busier than normal right now.

Well said....and don't many of us wish we were as "overweight" as we once thought we were!!

SO GLAD she is good and safe, and sending all good vibes that it stays that way. Will any parts of the storm or its aftermath on any areas affect your trip in any way? I saw pictures last night of the flooding in South Carolina, and oh my goodness.

I am planning to contact our resort probably tomorrow to double check that everything is a "go". But I figured I'd give them 24 hours to pull themselves together and get power restored before I bugged them.

What was she planning on making? What would you LIKE to have? What would be satisfied with in the long run? Maybe I could come up with an idea/suggestion/recommendation? I am crafty/creative AND thrifty (aka CHEAP)!!

Hope you are making the most of your "bonus" day!!

:confused3

I agree! Just a little trick.... when I get a Subway sandwich, I ask them to pull a bunch of bread out of the inside of the roll before they start filling it........ then I am eating less bread AND there is room for more veggies!!

Anyhow..... DH isn't as big a fan of Chipotle as I am, so he probably won't care. And depending on what town we end up in (we are smack in the middle of two big towns/cities and they offer different shopping opportunities, so I will have to do some thinking about where we are going before we head out)..... one town has the Chipotle and one has Boloco (similar to Chipotle, but much smaller chain and MORE options!).

Thanks for taking such good care of us, even when you are so busy with your own life!

Glad to know this.....I was worried about the calories for my upcoming trip. Haha

OF COURSE! Disney calories are like Disney money..... it just doesn't count while you are there!!

Caught up! ...................................P

:cheer2:

I did fairly good for this first weekend -- walked about 30,000 steps over the course of two days and stuck to my plan. It's day 5 of the month and I haven't had any candy yet -- which is awesome. I did have a Mickey waffle yesterday - so that was my splurge for the weekend.

was just talking to DH2B about the new prices yesterday. :sad2:

We talked about it and it seems we'll be doing a second trip next year for Food and Wine for my birthday. I've never been, so depending on the schedule we'll also do MNSSHP too!

Once you get past the magic gates, the pounds come on and you go home with a souvenir :rotfl2:

Ok, I just decided to come and post here as I am getting the typical evening snack attack! I have done well with eating today, am on course for my 750 calorie deficit after I went out for a 30 minute run (even did some speed work!). So, I feel great about myself, but really want to snack this and that. So, I am trying very hard to just not do that. And post on here instead. I think I will make myself a nice cup of tea and then lock the kitchen door! Thanks for listening!!! :thumbsup2
