Any recommendations on West Coast disney Cruises?

Hi:
I've been reading this board for a few days now since we are considering a Disney cruise in May. I see so many great posts about the East Coast cruises and ships but so far none about the West Coast. We are thing about the 5 night CA coast cruise on the Wonder. It leave San Diego, stops in Sa. Francisco and ends up in Vancouver. Has anyone ever don't this cruise? What did you think? The price seemed good to us and it only required 1 flight back from VAN. instead of a round trip out to the East coast which was a plus. Any opinions would be great. I have cruised before just not with Disney and not for awhile.
Thanks!

I have done the opposite repo cruise in September. The first year was a really good deal, the second year even with the OBB was much more and a night shorter. We enjoyed the cruise and stayed outside of DLR to do Disney for a few days after the cruise.

In San Francisco, if you haven't been go to the Disney Family Museum.

I did the southbound repo cruise three years ago from Vancouver to LA. It stopped for two nights in San Francisco and it was awesome!!

There's something quite amazing about going under the Golden Gate in a cruise ship.

Cool. That sounds fun.

Depending on how much time you have available, you can also do the West Bound Panama Canal cruise that time of year. One flight to Miami and "home" to San Diego. I am fairly certain that our 14 nighter for a family of 3 was almost the same cost as a few of the West Coast Cruises for similar room types.

It was an AMAZING trip. I am so glad we did it.

We did Alaska last summer and we really enjoyed our time in Vancouver, I was really impressed with all of the things to do. Would recommend staying a day or two after in Vancouver, we did two days and it was full of stuff to see and do. We live in the SF area and I'm sure your stop in SF would be good. We also did 2 days in Seattle before. Its a easy train ride from Vancouver to Seattle, and we found the flights a lot cheaper out of Seattle. The price difference for our family of 4 covered our train tickets and one nights hotel in Seattle. If you are in So. Cal. that could be a really good trip with lots of options.

Thanks for the all the suggestions. I did see the Panama Canal cruise but we don't have the 2 weeks to spend at this moment. Also we would need to leave and get home on the Monday because my daughter would already be missing 4 days of school just from the cruise. I wish it sailed in June, then it would be perfect. I would love to take a day or two in Vancouver and then go to Seattle, but unfortunately that wont work this time. I did find some pretty good deals for a one way flight out of Vancouver. Around 400.00 dollars for 3 people.

I would recommend to anyone to go on the Disney Alaskan cruise at least once. That cruise was so magical. I would do that same cruise again next year. Check out the photos in the signature for proof. Just do it.

We were on the northbound from San Diego to Vancouver in 2014. You can read my trip report in my signature line. We thought it was awesome, though it got pretty cold and rainy north of San Francisco. My DH and I are from the Pacific Northwest originally, so it was very familiar weather to us, but it does create a packing conundrum. It was in the mid to upper 90's when we left San Diego in mid-May, and in the 50's when we arrived in Vancouver. Even more chilly on deck with the ocean breezes. That being said, we'd do it again if the price was right. It was just as much fun as any Caribbean / Bahamian cruise, with the same types of activities. We began with a trip to Disneyland in record heat, but we always prefer to see the parks before our cruises, since the cruises are so relaxing after long days at the parks. My trip report begins with the Disneyland section, so skip ahead a couple of pages to read about the cruise. We loved going to San Francisco, although our winery excursions were all cancelled due to lack of interest, but we went to the Walt Disney Family Museum instead, and although it was my second trip there, I enjoyed it just as much as the first time I saw it. You can easily do that excursion on your own by either calling a taxi or walking to the Presidio complex, if you are fairly active and used to walking. I want to say it took me about 60 minutes at a brisk walk when I visited San Francisco the first time. But there was so much to see, I didn't mind at all. The San Francisco waterfront area is easy to get around. It was a great cruise. I can't see how anyone wouldn't enjoy it.

Thanks, I enjoyed reading your trip report. We were thinking of an inside state room but boy, I wish we could go concierge. That all looked so nice. I would like to know though what time would you recommend for a flight out of Vancouver if you are leaving on the same day as debarkation?

Agree with Bonus days in Vancouver... Especially when arriving in May when weather can have wet and dry days.
  • Day 1 Grouse and Capilano
  • Day 2 Hop on w/ Stanley Park, Aquarium and mini train
  • Day 3 Hop on w/ Granville Island and Gastown
  • Day 4 Whistler
  • Day 5 Victoria.... some may continue south to Seattle w/ Ferry
If you have additional days.... Go East see Banff, Calgary and beyond!

We are doing the south-bound repo cruise (Vancouver to San Diego via Victoria) in just over two weeks and haven't found any trip reports about this particular cruise so I will be doing a TR when we return.

Thank you - I'm glad you enjoyed the report. We do enjoy the extra space in the suite, but it's sooooo expensive. This particular repo cruise wasn't too bad, though, if I recall. That's one thing that sealed the deal. I would think you wouldn't want to fly before noon. Although it's a quick taxi ride to the airport, you have to go through customs on the Vancouver side, so it took a little extra time to the gate.

I know you are only just off the cruise but I can't wait to read your trip report, am seriously considering booking this cruise for next year.
