Just Back Fanstasy Western Concierge Cruise!

When we cruised last month, I went to guest services on the last full day and asked to get tip cards for concierge. She asked how much, and I said, I have absolutely NO IDEA- how much should we tip concierge? She hemmed and hawed and I pressed- "no, really, what would you tip them? What do other people do? What do you think I should tip them?" and she finally gave me a number- $50. I asked if that was for all 3 hosts, she said yes. I thought that sounded way too low so we more than doubled it, but I thought it was very interesting since I've never heard a number given out at all. For the record, we were a party of 5 on a 4 night cruise.

I guess a # wasn't really "given" out--more like blurted out.

Interesting that even DCL employees in guest services really have no idea about concierge tipping, so no surprise that we don't.

I say we paid for concierge and we are entitled to what we paid for. We have a private character meet, choice of a table (I got the exact table we had each prior cruise), prior booking for Remy and Palo, early on and "easy" off the ship--among other perks that we paid for.

I agree that concierge gets certain perks, that is what you are paying for. Early booking of excursions, spa treatment, dining rotation, concierge lounge/sundeck, etc..... Those who pay for those perks are certainly entitled to them.

I would just hope that those in concierge don’t feel that it entitles them to get in the front of line during character meet and greets like I heard complained about while in line on my last cruise. The complaining of the fact that people brought kids on Disney a cruise and they were loud, mis behaving, and generally acting like kids and that they in concierge shouldn’t have to be subjected to seeing that as has been lamented on this board.

I am not saying all concierge cruisers are like this and it is limited to a few bad eggs but when the sentiment is I should get my way because I cruised concierge and paid more money for my cruise it becomes annoying. Just don’t be that guest.

I don't think room location has anything to do with complaints about parents who refuse to parent are justified whether you are in an interior room or the Walt suite. I don't want to be subjected to kids running amok in the dining room, pushing kids in the pools, playing in the elevators, or just generally acting like heathens. Are kids naturally loud and unpredictable? Of course. Mine has embarrassed me more than once. But I never just ignored her behavior and therefore tortured those around me. Reasonably attentive parenting is all anyone asks for and that is not limited to concierge.

I am talking about the “I can’t believe there are kids on a disney cruise, they are better off seen and not heard” attitude that has been posted before. Or the while we were in the dining room they let their kid cry instead of letting them have their way and giving into them to quiet them down sentiment. The they don’t parent like I think they should mentality. Then the fact they are concierge is mentioned and the implication is they are have a right to that opinion because they are concierge.

I agree about parenting. A vacation from work is not a vacation from parenting. When my coworkers asked how it was, my reply was it was fun but it was not relaxing as I still had to be a parent. (it's vacations that make me realize what an amazing woman my wife is to be a stay at home mom).

This is what I dislike about reading any trip forums, you cannot go by what everyone has experienced! Your cruise
Is what you both will make it! You will go, concierge, and you will enjoy every minute! Why? Because you are in each other's company! And concierge just enhances this. There are so many nay Sayers who do not have to money to do what you are doing. And there are many people who want EVERYTHING FOR NOTHING! Or nothing is good enough to for them...I know fact you will joy it!! Don't sweat the small stuff, just bring more then two bathing suits. Clips for the room curtains to hold them back( the views rock) and take advantage of everything concierge can do for you!!

That is why you need to take everything with a grain of salt. Sometime criticism is fair but sometimes is a whine fest.
My hubby and I were considering making our first cruise and were asking ourselves if concierge was worth it. From what I have read, sure does!

DH is the cheapest person around...puts up with my Disney obsession...and never asks "how much" because I am not sure he wants to know (but i know he does). well i just booked a cruise for myself and two friends and his first comment was "no upgrade and no concierge"...this comes on the tails of our April cruise where we upgraded at the port to cabin 12000, a 1-bedroom which we absolutely loved. When i told him i booked concierge for the December cruise without him, he just said no concierge because he would want to go to! I am not sure we would ever pre-book concierge on anything other than the Dream because of price, but he loved the concierge lounge and the he was like "Norm" to the bartender (just because he liked chatting with him and he made good drinks!) so as cheap as DH is, he thoroughly enjoyed concierge and we didn't even get to take advantage of shore-side services ahead of time. If we are ever able to upgrade at the port, i would jump at it in a heartbeat.

I was able to snag a concierge room this next trip. 1) It is a time when most schools are still in session (lower price). 2) I booked early enough that the price was "opening day" or just a little higher price (lower price). and 3) It will be just DH and me....no kids (lower price). Plus, I booked a year and a half out so there is more time for budget and paying it off.

Does this make me a snob? No. Do I feel lucky? Yes.

BTW, DH does not know about this yet. I'm debating about telling him on our anniversary (right at the 120 day mark) or waiting to tell him on the plane. All opinions are welcome.

Took my wife on a cruise this past January for her 60th birthday. She knew we had a verandah. Didn't know that we were in the Walt suite. Price for that was not too outrageous. She also thought it was just the two of us on the cruise. She didn't find out that our 4 adult children, husbands, boy friend and 6 grandkids were joining us until we went to check in at the port in Miami. She didn't realize what room we were in until she went to open the door and one of my daughters to he to read the name on the door.

First and probably only time we have done concierge, but I figured she was worth the splurge.

BTW our cars are 13 and 14 years old each with over 200K miles.

We've done concierge on both classes of ships about 4 or 5 times I'd say. We've only done it with an upgrade at the port which is ridiculously less expensive than doing it ahead of time. It's awesome to say the least, we always feel spoiled when we are able to get it and I don't feel like the staff treats you any differently. We've also had situations where upgrades weren't available, and while disappointed a bit we still love our cruises. Pretty soon we'll be in a position where our kids have flown the nest though and I'm not sure we'll stick with Disney, I'm sure we'll at least try the other cruise lines to see how they stack up for lower prices.
