Poly in Dec 2016? Booking Window Question

I'm having a hard time figuring out where to post my question. Please redirect me if this is the wrong board.

I'd like to purchase someone's DVC points for a 9 night stay at the Poly in early-mid December of 2016. Is this difficult to get? I know I pay more if I book 11 months in advance vs. 7 months in advance, but I prefer to have a better chance of actually getting the reservation.

My question is this: Does the 11 month booking window open up the first of the month 11 months prior - so Jan 1, 2016 for ANY arrival dates in December? Or is it 11 months from the actual date of the trip, i.e., Jan 6, 2016 if I want to arrive Dec 6, 2016?

Thanks in advance!

Booking windows open based on check-in date.

Plus with DVC you can only book 7 nights and you have to wait to book the last 2.

Thanks - how long do you have to wait?
Two options:
  1. wait for two days after the window opens and then the entire 9 nights would be bookable
  2. book the first 7 nights, then call back either daily or in 2 days to extend the reservation
As a renter, you would need to work with the owner you rent from to determine how the owner will make the reservation.

Gotcha - thanks so much!

I don't believe anyone answered this question so I will try. Typically DVC units at WDW are extremely hard to get in early Dec due to the low point requirement (cheapest DVC season) combined with low park crowds and Christmas decorations/special events (MVMCP). Currently Disney has declared 40% of the Poly points into member inventory but has not sold 40%. That means that currently there are more rooms avail to Non Poly owners. No one knows how many points will be sold before May 2016 (when your 7 month window opens) and if DVC will declare more inventory into DVC by then (prob won't occur until they sell a lot more points). This year I booked a Poly studio for a week in Oct as a non poly owner. I watched avail every day leading up to my 7 month window (and followed posts on here). EVERY day there were rooms avail at 7:59 am and gone by 8:01. So in order to snag a poly studio as a non member you had to be on the website and hit book at exactly 8 am. Considering that early Dec is supposed to be even more competitive for booking than Oct I would say it will prob be hard to get that reservation from a non Poly owner. The only issue might be finding a poly owner to rent from. Since the resort only went on sale earlier this year it seems there aren't as many people renting poly points out there yet. Good luck :)

For any near park resort at WDW, you should plan to make the reservation at 11 months out for early Decmber, DVC's highest demand time of the year. Moreover, you should do your first 7 nights as soon as the booking window is open and then add the other nights either daily or two days after booking the first 7.

And you should be aware that this isn't an easy reservation to get. Poly owners like to use their points - the resort is new and human nature is such that if you have something new, you'll use it. So you need to find a Poly owner who is not going to be using his own points, has enough points for nine nights that they are willing to rent, and willing to rent in a kind of complex transaction (seven nights plus two). And in finding that owner, you'll be competing with more renters thinking about the same deal. For the Poly, the supply demand curve is currently working against renters.

Poly also sold fixed weeks, and a lot of fixed weeks were sold for the high demand early December period, making it even more difficult to get that particular reservation since some of those rooms are booked permanently.

Just as an FYI, OP, the dates you're looking for are the busiest of the whole year for DVC resorts. So, like @crisi said, you really need to have a perfectly executed Plan A in place before the 11-month window opens. And have a Plan B to use if the planets don't align for you.

Don't wait 2 days or you probably won't get those nights
