Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER RESORT Information & Questions

We came back on the 27th. Beautiful grounds, comfortable beds, and crystal clear pool. But check for bedbugs. We had them in room 2244 and had to be moved. Management was great though. They took care of everything.

UGH!!! So sorry to hear this!!!
And there were reports of them in bldg 4 at POP. So frustrating!
I know it can happen anywhere but I want to go back to my perfect Disney bubble!!! ;)
We are in bldg 4 at FQ. Hopefully we won't have any!!!! :)

After last time when we had no luck sending the fax (we go the opposite of everything we had requested), I said I wouldn't send in a fax again.

But.... I had second thoughts and sent my fax yesterday for our upcoming trip. Wish me luck!

We just got back and had a wonderful stay. I loved POFQ - the grounds, courtyards, theming, friendly cast members and total charm of the place. I also loved, loved the small footprint and how close the pool, gift shop and food court were. We were in Building 5. We did the online check in and requested an upper floor. When we got our room text, they gave us a ground floor. Since one of my daughters was sleeping on an air mattress, I really wanted an upper floor just in case of critters. We went to the front desk when we arrived and they were able to give us a 3rd floor corner room. Perfect! Mousekeeping was great, beds were comfortable and I really liked the room layout, especially the curtain that separated the bathroom. Great for a family of 4 with 2 daughters. That gave them privacy to change. The other added surprise was how great the busses were. We never waited long for a bus and the commute to all the parks, except AK, was only about 10 minutes or so. That was less than time that our commute from the Beach Club to MK last year. I really don't have any downsides, except that the pool and hot tub were a bit small. However, it was totally fine for me. Only saying that because it was my daughters' one complaint. I think they were (unfairly) comparing the pool to the BC from last summer and you really can't compare the POFQ pool to Storm Along Bay. That is a truly great pool and I did miss it a little, but I would happily stay at POFQ again and again. I'm missing it already!

PS-Wanted to add that one of my daughters claimed she saw a rat in one of the courtyards. I remember from this thread that they are not rats, but some other rodent like creature native to Florida. Anyone remember what they are? I did see a lot of squirrels around WDW that seemed to be injured or attacked. Also wondering about that...

Arden01, I'm thinking I remeber the word "nutria" for the "rat-like" creature. I've never seen one yet myself.

Glad you enjoyed your stay!

That's a shame, ours are lovely and comfy, I'm using two and my head just sinks into them. Lovely and soft.

Andre

Lucky you! :-). This is the third visit that the pillows were like rocks. If we didn't fly, I'd bring our own! Maybe next time I'll call housekeeping to see if there are softer ones somewhere! Lol

Thanks for the confirmation. I told her it was some other creature and I remember reading about it here.

We've lived in Florida for 25+ years and I have never seen one. But, from what I have read, they are pretty big!

Definitely worth doing, ours at POR (same resort group) were lovely, although I have had somewhat harder ones in the past. I suspect there are some foam-filled pillows which can be harder, and other batches which are softer. Just ask housekeeping and see what they can do.

Andre, quick question: Do Riverside and FQ still share buses at Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and HS during off peak times? And does MK still have their own bus for each resort? We will be there in 2 days (Yes!) and want to know the current situation. I know you have a site that has all of the times and bus transportation stuff, etc, but didn't know if the situation has changed.

I also didn't know if, because of free dining, they have not shared buses? Only reason I ask is because I know that when we went a couple of years ago to FQ, it seemed like we never shared buses with Riverside except at DTD...did that change within the last 2 years?

Any tips you can give me would be great. Thanks!

That's correct, yes. Except for the MK, the buses have always been shared apart from during peak times of day. The information on my site is as accurate and up to date as I can make it, but there are always live variations so treat anything you are told as a guideline rather than a rule. For example we took a 7am bus to MK two weeks ago, which had already called at POFQ and then did South>West>North>East at POR before going to the MK.

One change I still need to make on the site is to the DTD/Disney Springs route, which now also acts as an internal shuttle service and calls at POFQ twice (i.e. POFQ > the 4 POR stops > POFQ > Typhoon Lagoon > DTD). This is presumably in response to the direct boat service route which now runs after 5pm.

Checking in Thursday & super excited!!!! We were in building 2 last trip, pool view, loved it. Hoping for same building this trip...

We'll be at POFQ next week and have tickets for La Nouba one night at 6 pm. We are planning to take the boat, which docks at the Marketplace end of DTD. How do we go about getting to the West Side of DTD from there? We usually just go to Wolfgang Puck Express and wander around in the same general area. I know that the boats don't run if there's a thunderstorm and we would have to take a bus, but is there a direct bus to the West Side?

There is a water taxi service which takes you over there from the Port Orleans dock, or the Disney buses mostly drop off at the Marketplace bus-stop first and then go to the West Side bus-stop (near Cirque du Soleil) so you could jump on pretty much any bus I think. Check with the driver that the bus is going that way when you get on though!

Thanks!

Hate to correct you Andre but I understood the bus stop at West Side was now closed and the buses only go to Market Place however as you said get off the boat at Market Place and take the boat from there across to West Side. We will occasionally use the bus via DTD to another resort and this year they only ever stopped at Market Place where we would get the boat back to POFQ.

Could be, it's all in a state of flux at the moment, and I tend to avoid buses to DTD wherever possible! Once they've finished with the Disney Springs work hopefully the bus service should settle down and we'll know which of the three bus stops will be operational again (and buses will have their own dedicated bus lane along the widened Buena Vista Drive too, which will help)
