Taking a child's car seat from home...

Has anyone ever taken their child's own car seat? I'm talking about the larger ones for younger children who have to have a ' proper ' car seat.

We hired one on our first trip with our dd but wasn't too impressed with it, we have also taken her booster seat which we put in a suitcase.

Can anyone give me advice whether taking our own is easy enough or would you advise me to hire one?

Always took our own from home. Bought a car seat bag online for it to go in for the plane.

Does the airline deal with the tags and whatever else?
Do you have to let them know in advance?
Do you check it in with the suitcases etc?

i sent dh out to buy one from walmart after he picked up the car , just didnt fancy taking our own and buying a cheaper walmart one was lots cheaper than a hire car one

Yes the airline tag it at check in when you check in your suitcases then you drop it off at oversize baggage. No need to let them know in advance.

It's really easy we did it a lot when DD was small fortunately she is now 52" so only needs a booster!

We are hiring the car from the airport so that wouldn't work for us. Thank you anyway

You could always take your car seat and use it on the plane for your DD to sit in, if it's EU approved!

It's for my son and he will be nearly 3 when we travel so that wouldn't Work for us. He will need all the room he can get lol.

Sorry my op was a bit confusing....my dd will be 7 ( when she was little we hired a car seat and now we just take her booster ) but I needed advice for when we take my son for the first time as he will still be in a car seat.

Sorry, my fault, I meant to type DS! We're going to use ours for our Granddaughter, she'll be 2.5. Last time we took her she didn't have a seat booked so we just checked her car seat in and picked it up at MCO.

No problem . We are going to take my sons with us this time.

When we hired one for dd when she was smaller, we wasn't impressed with it. She seemed too big for it. It looked like an infant car seat ​
