Traveling to parks from outside hotel

My parents are taking all the grandkids on their first Disney trip in early December. We are staying outside the park and need your best suggestions (and most adorable) on how to get 10 people (6 adults and 4 kids) to and from Disney World parks everyday.

If where you are staying does not have a shuttle your best option is to -

RENT: Two smaller rental cars or a 12 person passenger van. Involves $17 per vehicle parking fee at major parks.

Personally: I would never stay offsite without a car.

Our resort does have a shuttle but the charge $17 per passenger each trip you take. Is that the norm?
And if we rent a car, how long does it take to park the car and take the tram to the front of the park?

I'd rent a car, maybe two. I'd consider a ten passenger van. They're not adorable, but they're good at transporting lots of people.. How long it will take to park and then take the tram will be very dependent on when you arrive, how busy it is, if you can just catch a departing tram or just miss one.

We did something like this in 2013 - 6 adults, but only 1 kid almost 2. Rented 2 cars, DH and I took 1 car and took DD back to the condo (near Sea World) every day for lunch/nap. My sister and her SO, and my parents, used the other car. It worked well because we were usually up much earlier than them, and got to the parks close to rope drop. My sister and whoever wanted to sleep in would come in the late AM, we'd text and meet up and do some rides together. This was in the days of the paper FPs, so my sister and SO would take our cards and get a slew of FPs while we took DD on Small World or the carousel again, and then we'd do some rides together. Some combination of the adults would stay in the park through the afternoon, while DD and at least 1 parent went back to the condo for nap. Then we'd all regroup at the park in the late afternoon for some rides, dinner, etc. and then one car would go back for early bedtime, and another car would stay later.

I much prefer staying on site, but this was totally workable since we also saved a lot of $ (ate most meals at the condo) and had a lot of space.

It actually depends on where you are staying. If you are staying some place like Bonnet Creek, it is so close I would just go with the large van. If you are staying farther out, I would go with 2 cars. $17 is the going rate for most theme parks for parking these days.

I think I would go with two cars. You'll have more flexibility if some people want to stay late/leave early, etc. Since you'll be offsite, you might have people needing to run out for groceries or other items, getting take-out, maybe splitting up and going to different restaurants. Having two smaller cars will make it easier to get around. Driving and parking time depends on how far you are staying from the parks. It's relatively easy to drive in, park, and take a shuttle to the front gates. If arrive early, you may be able to skip the shuttle and walk to the gates. Remember that while Disney buses will drop you near the front gates at Magic Kingdom, travel from the parking lot requires a ferry or Monorail, so schedule extra time to get to that park.

No way would I pay $17 per person for transportation. Cheaper to rent a couple cars! I've only stayed offsite and from parking to getting into the parks doesn't take long at all. Longer for MK, but other parks are pretty quick.

I can't imagine staying offsite without a car! Even when we stay onsite we like to drive ourselves to the
Park. If you are there at opening you park close. Later at worst you have to take a tram. This gives you the flexibility to leave whenever the kids are done for th day.
